Fred - I had the S through Z part of the list of graduates when we were trying to locate people for the reunion. I found a Donald E Shehigian in Valatie, NY who was 57 years old, but I couldn't get any more info, so I wasn't able to find out if this was our Don Shehigian. Trying to find people fro the reunion after 40 years was very difficult. However, I do think there are some graduates out there who would like to be found. You just have to have the time and resources to do it.
Also - I know I promised everyone that I would have more information about the Elmont reunion that my sister attended in South FL. However, it turned out that my sister didn't have much to tell me. Apparently, Mitch Bohn's mother and step-father (who, I think, is Denise Yarfitz's father) were there. The parents of Rick Schiller, who graduated in '69, were also there. And I think that the rabbi from the Elmont Jewish Center, Rabbi Glazer, was also there.

Steve - Nice to hear that Rabbi Glazer is still around. He was, by far, the best rabbi I ever had. As a kid, I could never understand his sermons and on the High Holy Days, it seemed like he always spent a lot of time trying to quiet the crowd. In spite of all that, not one rabbi since has matched up to him. Now I'm starting to get flashes of Hebrew School at Elmont Jewish Center. Weren't you and I in a lot of the same classes. Anyone else remember Hebrew School of those of "the Jewish persuasion"?

Steve, I met a young man in Jacksonville, FL who was from Puerto Rico and attending Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. After speaking with him, it turned out my cousin was his English teacher in Jeffersonville, NY, when his family lived there. I also met an old friend in the Grand Canyon in 2004, who I last saw in Honduras in 1990. Eventually, if you live long enough, our paths cross again.

Dear Classmates from 1968,
Fred Schneider is helping to organize the 1969 40th Reunion and has kindly included our class. I sadly missed the 40th because I didn't know about it.........staying in touch and keeping communication alive from California is not one of my strengths. If I had talked less to Joanne Dickstein and other buddies and typed more in Mr. Meeks class, I may have been a better typist. Oh well.......
Please find the invitation from Fred posted below.
Warmly,
Beth Cooper Tabakin

Fellow Classmates:
Believe it or not, Spring 2009 rapidly approaches and marks the 40th anniversary of our graduation from Elmont Memorial High School. We have not had a formal get-together since some of us met at the Orchid Chinese Restaurant in Garden City on May 15, 2004. Now, we would like to get together, increase our attendance, see old friends, reminisce and in general, catch-up, this time, with an Italian flavor.
Your Reunion Committee, Liz Bruno Stranathan, Robert Goldaper and Fred Schneider, have reserved the Ballroom at the trattoria/bar, Pappa Razzi, in Westbury, where there is ample parking and the facility is near the Westbury stop of the L.I.R.R. We have planned a menu of fabulous Italian foods and desserts and an evening of nostalgia, fun and old friends. Please visit the restaurant’s website if you want a preview of the venue for the evening.
In the meantime, we need to collect the funds to pay the restaurant for the cost of the function, so request that you send in your checks using the attached coupon, As Soon As Possible, c/o Fred. Feel free to bring a spouse, significant other, or a friend who was a faculty member or an Elmont graduate from a different year. All are welcome. If you have any question, call any member of the Committee:

You all have great memories! Speaking of memories, Fred Schneider really should have been in our class. He remembers every detail about us! Just read his bio. I have zero memory of sitting with him at senior prom--or is it that I just have CRS?
What was the name of the place where prom was held? The date? What beach did we go to the next day? What was the exact date of graduation? What restaurants did we go to after? Who had graduation parties? What was the name of our senior advisor? He was such a nice guy, Can yall tell I can't find my yearbook?
If you know any of these answers, help an old woman turning 59 tomorrow. Thanks

I think the prom was at El Patio (??) Remember the senior dinner at Leonard's of Great Neck? (I still have the little tiger we got as a gift) I can probably find out the exact date of graduation if I look through a trunk I have at home. Happy Birthday Barbara!

hope all of our grads/mates in the NE are well and everywhere else, we are fine here in Fl, and it has been a bit chilly for us trained to live in 80F or more to be comfy....
hey, let's all bring one person onto the website that isn't on it yet, even if they attended the reunon and haven't taken the time to fulfill their profile, that will expand our community in a grassroots way, we kinda like that, person to person
if u have any ideas of funding please post them on this message forum, as in how to raise money for our selected projects, what are our selected projects (from EMHS '08 scholarships, to EMHS '68 graduates to whatever else you suggest....we do have a little bit of money now that has been donated and leave it up to you/us to create the recipient that will benefit most
love to all you "wolfman jack" fans.....did anyone travel across the great plains in the '60's listening to KOMA, from Oklahoma City????

Hey everyone - if you've had any reservations about contacting old friends, I was just on the phone with Debbie Glasco. We haven't seen each other in at least 35 years but it seemed like yesterday. We ended up laughing so hard my cheeks hurt!

If anyone wants to contact Debbie, let me know.

Well, they're predicting quite a storm, and it'is snowing in earnest now. I don't know how it will be by morning, but the wind is whipping and the snow is flying.

Joanne Dickstein (Deutch)

Hi Everyone, I'm back from my nice restful trip to Florida. Spent my time sitting on the beach soaking up much needed sun. I went from having a mild case of flu, to recovering for my daughter's wedding, to having a real nasty case of flu and getting on an airplane anyhow, to sitting in the sun in Deerfield Beach, sweating off the flu, to finally beating this flu-bug. The whole process took a month or so. Ill post pictures soon, so you can see the wedding and me and Sue having a blast at it. BTW, it was the only weekend during this long winter that the sun was out, no snow, no ice. What a blessing!

Joanne, after living in Florida since 1974, I have a difficult time visiting areas, where I don’t at least see sunshine for some part of the day or hear the birds singing every morning. In 2003, I was in Ramstein, GE for the month of January, where it was either raining or snowing every morning and I never saw the sun all month. I was never so glad to leave.

Sabina and other concerned readers: Make careful note of this: Koran-Article IV Section (D)(1)(c)(iv): If a person cannot see you, how could one look foolish?

AND, to all of you who continue to have doubt: "Looking foolish never seemed to negatively effect our President" (New York Times: October 14, 2008 page 6. The reference in the article was to our then "serving" President.

Roy: Where is George Cohan?

I must now leave this forum, one of my cats is beckoning me. However, note that I read it often with very great interest.

Before I go, does anyone know the best way to weed and feed, and otherwise properly treat, lawn grass in upstate NY?

03/11/09 12:46 PM #288

Joanne Dickstein (Deutch)

I posted some pictures of my daughter's wedding on my profile. You can see Susan Baum Schloss, also my brother's - Maurice & Frank.
Best way to grow grass in upstate NY (now that sounds very strange) , don't bother, have lots of trees, no grass or hire someone to take care of it.

Hi everybody. I've got a Letter to the Editor in the current issue
of Esquire (April '09) It's a response to their interview with
Mike Huckabee. If there are any Huckabee fans in our class,
they might want to skip it.

This guy, Huckabee, pretended not to know that there's never
been a Jewish president in the US. Uh, huh. Any 8 year old
Jewish kids would know that. Unfortunately, Esquire didn't
print what I wrote about how Huckabee would pretend
(if he thought anyone would believe him) that he was
unaware that Obama is the first black president in the US.

Hey, something's better than nothing! I hope everyone has a
good weekend.

Seth Wittner

What ever happened to Randy Blaustein. She was in my homeroom and very nice the reunion before last.. Just curious .. I did not see her listed with this last one?
How is everyone? All my pretty Bradford pear trees that line my property here are in bloom. They are beautiful. I am waiting for Spring to really get here! Just saying hi to everyone! Smiles. Cris

mam o man, are we lucky...we have each other, our families, life, breath, a website, a wonderful life to share with each other, funny memories, sometimes sad, and we always have each other, i am so grateful for this moment, being here, with all of you, we are the lucky ones.....

jake- As a resident of upstate New York, I don't subscribe to the pristine lawn laws of the suburbs- My lawn looks green all season, without doing anything but mowing. The grass to weed ratio may be questionable, but i'd rather make sure the deer (14 at last count), and other animals, that come to my yard are not ingesting any toxins. Using well water also is a factor in my decision.
There is a town somewhere in the south where they have outlawed lawns.
I think that idea is brilliant--think of all the time and expense one could save.
On another note.....
I would like invite everyone to Warwick, NY to experience my town's
Second Sunday Open Studios. The second Sunday of each month between April and November several artists will be opening their studios to the public. There will be maps available with all the studios indicated.
We have amazing artists here in a beautiful country setting.
If you are interested I can send you more information as I receive it.
My studio will be open... ..Sooooo......If you like art and the beauty of farms, open land, a charming town, etc......Stop by!!!

HI Angelo- I do hope you get to enjoy the Open Studio event.
Warwick is accessible via the George Washington Bridge, or the Tappan Zee.
Since it is only an hour from either bridge you can easily make this a day trip.
You can check out mapquest using my address which is
3 Points of VIew, Warwick, NY 10990.
See you soon. Susan

Hi Everyone! No one much talks to me but I will say hello. Roy....I did not go to the prom either and I wish I had.
Do I mention anything about The Government and how it is becoming BIG Government? Maybe someone will share their comments! We are being Taxed to death! Any comments?
I will close on that one! Happy spring everyone! I need the SUN! Smiles.. Cris

Nancy Jacob (Belluscio)

Sorry that I haven't kept up on the message forum, but life can get hectic even in retirement. A special thanks to all my classmates who sent me birthday greetings yesterday. That made my day so special. My sister and a friend had a party for me of about 15 people and I fell asleep in the middle of it. What will happen when I (all of us) turn 60?
To all those Floridians, I will be in your land on Apr 7- Apr 15, with a short cruise in between, to get some relaxation, sun and fun in before the sun comes here full time. We are having an early spring this year and the ice is melting fast. My dogs even went swimming in the lake yesterday (close to shore where the ice is melting).
Susan--You're not upstate; you're downstate! I was down at our other house (Cold Spring) last weekend as I had to go to my Godson's fiance's bridal shower in Jersey. No snow left down there, but it wasn't very warm either.
Joanne-Congratulation's on you daughter's wedding.
Love to all, Nancy
