Joanne, I spent Easter morning at Orlando Wetlands Park. As I first entered two large objects were approaching toward me through the heavy fog. It turned out to be a pair of Sandhill Cranes and I fired off some shots as they passed within 10-ft of me. The fog lifted and I fired off about 50 frames of Purple Gallinule in the morning sunlight. Shortly after eight Black Bellied Whistling Ducks dropped into a tree nearby. I finished out with a pair of fledgling Eagles, some Black Crowned Night Heron, a pair of Otters and a few large Gators. All that and home by 10 AM. Now it just happened to be Easter, but this is a typical weekend morning for me in Central Florida.

I spent Easter floating around in the Atlantic. I got up early and walked the upper deck for about an hr as the sun rose--my own sunrise service. It was very serene. However, I wouldn't rate the Bahama Celebration a great cruise. Celebrity does a much better job. Our only port was Nassau. I hadn't been there for over 30 years, yet it seemed pretty much the same.

We went to a bar-b-queue on one of the out islands off Nassau some years back. As we stood in the serving line, I noticed the cook dripping sweat all over the food on the grill. I’ve become very cautious of the food I eat while traveling abroad.

Our honeymoon was to Paradise Island. There was 1 casino and 2 hotels. One was owned by Merv Griffin. When we stopped there many years later on a cruise, I thought it had changed alot!!It wasn't the same at all!

Carrie, do you remember when they used to have the jail next to the straw market and the cells were made of chain link fence, so everyone could see prisoners as they passed by. I remember watching Chalks Flying Service taking off in their seaplanes in the channel by the cruise ships. The new airport on Paradice Island changed all that.

Sorry Fred I don't remember that. I remember the straw market.I still have the straw bag I bought. I remember the conch shells all under and around the bridge and delicious conch chowder.
Bruce- how come Jet Blue does not fly to Atlanta!! I'm going to visit a friend and I'm very dissappointed!!

Hello All Floridians and anyone who might be in Florida in October-November 2009--

How about an Elmont Reunion? There are 15 of us on this website, plus all of those who are not and are living here, plus all of those people who have second homes here, plus all of those who can be here at that time. Sabina suggested she might contact Disney to see if they do anything for small groups. If we all come, it may not be such a small group. Anyone, anyone, Bueller?

Well, I'm thirty minutes away from the Mouse. If we have a number of folks and what activities we're interested in, I can make some inquires.

I went to Disney for the first time around 1976 or there abouts. My buddy got the shit kicked out of him by 4 or 5 dwarfs-Disney dwarfs. He apparently said something he should not have said, and they went after him. Since then, whenever I go, I am careful to watch what I say.

I will be there with puckered lips and a smile.

Disney sounds like an excellent idea, just don't ask Susan or me to go on Space Mountain. We are "Small World" kind of girls!

OK All You Disney Fans:

I'm starting a count:
Phyllis, Bill S., Jake, Joanne, Fred (and I assume Andrea), Loretta, Sabina, and Me --that's 9.

Fred--that would be great if you can get some info--Sabina said she would check too.

Please add your name if you're interested.

Also, which month is the best--October or November?

Let's get this party started!!!

Hmmm, I love Disney and your re-reunion does sound enticing. Maybe I can get a group of northerns to all go: Margaret (bruer)Graham, Nancy Jacobs, George Pieper.
I'll be keeping an eye out for more details...."hi" to everyone! :-)

My sister and I took the Disney Backstage tour last year. It was fascinating to see what goes on behind the scenes. Depending on when you have it I might be able to attend as I was going to see my sister in the fall.(now that I am retiring I can go whenever)

By November the mid-day temperatures have cooled down and the hurricane season should be behind us. There are several resort areas with Disney property and that time of year should be uncrowded. I'll make some contacts.

I spoke to someone at Disney Group Planning yesterday. Without a specific date or number of people she couldn't give me much information. She did say that all reservations, for lodging and dinner, must be made 90 days in advance. I asked her about facilities for a large group dinner. She said they have over 100 restaurants and some have such facilities and some don't. She couldn't tell me which ones do and I'd have to call the individual resorts to find out.

Fred - I hope your contacts can be more specific.

Also, for those of you coming from up north - My nephew and his family just went to Disney on their 5 night package. He said it was reasonable, especially since he didn't have to rent a car. Disney provided transportation to and from the airport.

I have to agree with Fred, Nov. is a good time to go weatherwise & less crowded. Years ago I had gone in Nov. and there were no lines at all, just walk right into the attractions.
We never can get that "child" completely out of us, now can we....Disney here we come!!

Hello out there-
Is anyone planning to meet me at the May 30th reunion? I hope so.
Love,
Beth

I sent an E-mail last night to a friend of mine at Disney, but they've been struggling with lay-offs and management reorganization. He hasn't responded, so I'll try another route.

Sabra (Now Barbara) Nalven (Gribin)

Thank you Fred, for doing some grunt work, or should I say "Grumpy" work for us.
Everyone else out there, to help Fred out, please try to contact anyone you are friends with from our class and let them know we'd like to do this in November. Not everyone is "Message Forum Happy " like we are. There are a lot of people like me who did not attend the reunion and wish they did.
If we get a good size group, of course the rates will be better and it will be more "funner". See what an Elmont education does for you!

Barbara, that's pretty good coming from a Peach Spasologist.
I received this back today. Once we know what folks would like to do, I'll make the calls.

Fred:

Pls see below...wish there was a name to give you but start with the web sites we listed below.

Hope that helps.

I have a class photo taken in 1956 of Mrs. Winberg's kindergarten class from Dutch Broadway school on my computer. If anyone would like me to send it to them I will need your email address and you can all see how very cute we all were way back when. I really miss seeing everyone since the reunion. We all had such a great time. Stay in touch. Send responses to elmontman@yahoo.com. Thanks-Mitch

I just want to take this time today, May 5th, to wish my first "best friend" in Elmont, Jeff Campbell who would have been 59 today. I miss you Jeff and all the memories we shared through the years. Mitch
