Hi Beth (Cooper) Where is there a reunion on May 30th? I live in L.A. and I would love to attend. You live in the bay area right? Be well-Mitch

Carol Montagino (Stein)

Add me to the list! November is the month of choice, but Oct. is probably of as well. I will drag Angela D. down with me, so make that 2.
Hope we keep the plans rolling, and thank you to those who are putting in the effort, it is appreciated.

Florida Reunion--Ok--With Carol and Angela, that makes 11--not so much--but a start. I think Disney can handle a few more Elmont peeps. Anyone else?

Mitch--I'm sorry to hear Jeff Campbell died. He was a funny, nice guy. I'm sure you miss him.

Beth Cooper (Tabakin)

Dear Mitch-
The reunion is in New York on Long Island. Yes, I live in CA in Marin County which is north or San Francisco. I would love to see you. I have relatives in LA, but seldom visit (although it could be arranged).
Hearing about classmates that are no longer alive hurts my heart and inspires me to connect sooner than later. I really miss my Elmont friends.
Love,
Beth

Hi Sabra (Barbara)-thanks for the kind words about Jeff Campbell. I was shaken in my shoes when I heard about what happened to him and we were like brothers. How are you? Where are you living? Do you ever hear from David Rubin? If I'm not mistaken you were neighbors on Barbara St. (now I know why you changed your name to Barbara) As you must know by now I live in California about 8 miles from Malibu and have 2 great kids-a 28 year old son who owns a very successful business here in Encino and my 26 year old daughter is in her 3rd year of Optometry school in Plantation, Florida. I just celebrated my 38th anniversary to the love of my life, Audrey, who went to Valley Stream Central. We went to her 40th reunion the week after ours. It was a very exciting 2 weeks. Stay in touch and absolutely count me in for any upcoming reunions wherever they may be. Much love-Mitch

Hi Mitch,
Re: David Rubin...I spoke with him prior to the reunion and he didn't seem too interested in "keeping in touch".
He lives in northern NJ. I would love to see him as we spent many high school years walking to and from EMHS together. Hope all is well in sunny CA. Debbie

Either weekend is good for Dennis and I.
Where is everyone? Now that the weather is nice has everyone gone outside? Not too many messages lately.
Hope all the Floridians are safe. My sister is running a red cross shelter because of all the flooding over on the east coast by Daytona.

All is well here in SoFL, as we like to call it....had an outing with Hyman on Saturday, spoke with Wolpert the other day, and as you know we made a donation to a "suicide prevention" clinic, Novemeber sounds good, I will be X-tremely bizzy as snow-boids return to FLorida and that is our bizznez....

Apparenetly Judi Wander is ok although I do not know her exact condition, I spoke with Helaine Weiss, Class of 67, and she filled in a few blanks.....

Maybe we should camp out somewhere in Nov???

Sabra (Now Barbara) Nalven (Gribin)

Hi Denise,
You're right--The correct date is Nov. 6-8. Sabina is looking into a hotel, and Ilene Brand is also working on something. The more people we have, the better the rates. I just got in touch with Joel Silver, who is interested.
Please, everyone, keep looking at the classmate profiles, e-mail facebook Elmont friends, you never know who might fly down. We're trying to find a hotel with free transportation to and from the airport.

When I send out the next newsletter, I will include this and a link. Once you get all the information, email it to me and I can put it on our home page. Maybe we can get other classes to come down too.

Beth Cooper (Tabakin)

Barbara, thank you for organizing the Nov event. I attended the '69 reunion organized by Fred Schnieder who did a terrific job. I felt a little weird telling people that I wasn't in their class, but since I missed my reunion, I came to theirs. As it turned out, I had a wonderful time connecting with people and remembering our pasts. I even met someone who told me that our grandparents knew each other and attended the same temple. Fred invited and encouraged a faculty members to come and I got to see Mr. Schmedt and Mr. Giles.
I am looking forward to connecting with my classmates.........like you (whoever is reading this)
Logistics: To which airport do we fly?
Southern CA people..........let's plan a little get together....
Any takers?
Love,
Beth

Hi from Disney Update Headquarters:

All Florida Residents--Check your AAA Florida Resident Info, AARP (yes, Oldies RUs), re: discount tix.

All Non Florida Residents--Ilene Brand is working with the travel agent to arrange for discount tix, but also check the above

Airport--Orlando--working on free transport to and from

Anyone bringing children, spouses, grandchildren? Need to know for children's rates

Does anyone know any of our teachers who are in Florida who might like to attend?

Is there anyone coming to the reunion who has a special talent that they would like to perform? ex. dance, magic, psychic, stunts, acting, etc.

Which parks do you want to go to, should we go as a group, should we go on our own and just meet up at nite, should we see the size of the group and then decide?

Please let us know soon. You can e-mail me at:mentalbarb@gmail.com if you have any other thoughts, questions, ideas. I don't want to take up this whole message forum with this. Thank you all.

I do not know if I will be able to attend the November reunion. I will be in Disney October 17th for a Dragon Boat Race. I started doing dragon boat racing about three months ago. Our first race for survivors we came in third. We then did another race to get our raking (A,B,or C) and we were ranked in B group and we came in first.
I will have to see if we can make it to Florida again in such a short time. Also it is grandchildren B'days.
Keep the info coming
Pat

Nancy Jacob (Belluscio)

I haven't had much time lately to check in at our site, but since there was an email from Joanne today, I wandered here. My son, Brian, who is 24, in perfect physical health, creative and very intelligent had a psychotic breakdown with no forewarning and is currently hospitalized. I am having a very hard time dealing with it all despite my psychology major and teaching of mental health. They are playing with medications to try to stop his racing thoughts. I know we have people in our class that can help me understand the medical treatments. In Brian's world everyone respects all religions, everyone recyles (OCD) and there is true love. Not so crazy is it? That means that you all can pray that he can once again function in the world as it really is. Thanks. Nancy

Nancy, I feel for you so much, the pressures on our kids today is horrible. I will think good thoughts for him and your family. If you need any help, post it here and perhaps the right person could answer questions that you might have. If the answer is personal, EMHS members can answer directly to your page here on classcreator.

Beth Cooper (Tabakin)

Dear Nancy-
Where is your son? How is he? Who is treating him? Is it a psychotic episode or a spiritual awakening? Has he had any history of depression, anxiety or head trauma? Do any of his relatives have a history or emotional disturbance? Is he being treated by licensed psychologists and psychiatrists?
Perhaps I can help or guide you to appropriate resources. Psychosis can be caused by a number of factors including toxicity, situational stress, genetic loading, etc. It is not necessarily a life sentence and many people come through it just fine. Please tell me more and perhaps I can help
I am sorry that your family is going through this frightening and traumatic time. Feel free to write to me either individually or through this forum.
I am currently a licensed psychologist in CA and have worked in a variety of settings including the inpatient ward at Letterman Army Medical Center in the mid 80s.
I hope I can help and am thankful that you asked your old community for support.
Love,
Beth
