Many of the teachers in Elmont had an impact on me , some good some bad . Mr Lavarando stands out as really caring and helping me with math . He had a great way of motivating one to learn . Mr Gillen and Dr Rosenberg of the science dept both helped me when I was in trouble and got me thru a trying time . Roy , I think you might mean Mrs Gevirt as your Jr High science teacher , I didn't have her but remember her . I had Mrs Levinson . My favorite teacher was Mr. Jerrold , I had him for 2 periods , auto shop . He would let you bring your own car in and work on it , what more could one ask for ?

I heard that there is going to be a multiclass reunion on Saturday October 5 from 3 to ? at the Nutty Irishman in Farmingdale.

Anyone hear anything else about it?

Three times I called the person supposedly running a "EMHS multi-year reunion" at the Nutty Irishman on Oct 5 and received no reply. His name is Roger, not affiliated with the restaurant, and his # is 631 766-6520, if anyone is interested.

The class of 1969 has their reunion the next weekend Sat Oct 12. Some of them are scheduled to go to the Homecoming events that day.

We are also invited this year by the school as we were last year. They have a parade from Dauntless Parkway on Dutch Broadway and then their football game. They have a tour of the school for alumni that morning and I believe lunch as well (they invited us for lunch last year)

If anyone would be interested in joining that event and having a mini reunion there let me know.

Our committee from last year's reunion is considering a possible 70th birthday party we throw ourselves next year. Let us know if anyone would be up for that also.

I agree that would be a great idea. We need to celebrate every birthday we have

We would make every effort to attend a 70th Celebration... keeping it simple is fine ~ it's about the people! ... :) Ginger

Great idea about throwing ourselves a 70th birthday party next year!

In the meantime, Is anyone interested in getting together this year, either for the multi-year reunion supposed to be at the Nutty Irishman on October 5, or the homecoming parade/game/school tour the following weekend, October 12?

Just want to keep the the conversation going, even though I don’t plan to attend either event this year.

I can't believe that is almost a year since our reunion! Where has the time gone!

Any news on our 70th birthday party?

good morning everyone.....   it is always a pleasure to see everyone.  I know how difficult it is for our class mates to come back to New York .  i was just thinking about all the class mates that live in the area.  i think it would be fun if we could get together at a local spot maybe once a month.  i am just testing the waters and looking for some reactions to that idea.  Looking forward to for some input. thanks Angelo

Can we meet for lunch?

Lunch works for me in general but it depends on exactly when. I will be out of the country from November 15 to December 16

Tuesday is usually the best day for me, weekends usually work also unless  I have tickets to something

I live near Union Square and Madison Park so somewhere in that area would be great but I am willing to travel anywhere in the city

I hope to join in if scheduling works out. Tuesday is also a good day for me.

Looking forward to this....

Hi All old dear Friends-

It was great seeing all of you last year, and I wish I could make a lunch get together. If we plan one over the holidays that would make a great present for all of us as well as for me being in NY anyhow.

The 70th birthday party - what time of year next year would you all prefer? Would you all like to go back to Danford's in Port Jefferson or do we have another suggestion?

Our reunion committee is starting work on this - Roy, Ellen, Susan, Loretta, Billy and myself- but please be part of the committee, lets get our ideas together and have fun with it.

By the way, the class of 69 just had it's reunion a few weeks ago.

Here is a report, according to my sister (class of 69), who attended both:

On the upside they raised $10,000 for scholarship purposes and donated it to EMHS. They hired a singer from the group "Brooklyn Bridge" to  entertain them. They also had a bigger turnout, actually a bit too big for her liking, like 150 people or so.

Some of them marched in the parade that we could not logistically do last year, as their reunion was held much closer to Elmont, I forget where, a Marriott or something..

They had Kenny Geils, who was at one of our earlier reunions, and Mr Goldstein, one of our Art teachers who is in his early 80's (who told my sister she remembered me- which was nice for me to hear)

The downside, according to my sister, was that our place (Danfords) was much nicer, their music was way too loud ( I guess they had a DJ along with the notable performer) their's more expensive,  our's much more fun, she had better conversations at our's - which surprised her but maybe you couldn't hear the other guy over the music, and last but not least- our food was a lot better.

Well maybe she was a biased witness but I know one more thing we did that  topped anyone else. Our cheerleading squad put on a great performance which will stay one of my favorite memories of our fun night!

For those of use living out of town it is easiest to travel from April to October than the winter months. Also, as Florida represents the state with the second larget number of alumni if anyone is interesting in a midwinter reunion for those living in or snow birding in Florida let me know. About 10 years ago a group of us met in Orlando and had a great time
