Peter or anyone else, who was Sr. Bulldog? How about this identity of this nun: Sr. Mazzola Oil was. I do agree with you all the nuns I ever had, from grade school to CCD in high school, were great and you learned a lot.

I can remember the winter I was in sixth grade we had some crust on top of all the snow up to that point, if memory serves me correctly after Christmas vacation, a group of my friends and I decided to see if we could walk on it. I was the only that was able to walk on it without breaking through, after all by the end of the year I weighed only 65 lbs.

Attention to all who went to Market Street School: Who was taller in Kindegarten but by the beginning of first grade was shorter and also by the end of second grade surpassed the height that they previously set in Kindegarten and why.

Gloria, are you referring to the registration form that is posted on this website, Gail and Linda Majka, changed it and you should get it the committee hopes by the end of March and early April? I don't know if they canned mine all together because I think it still might be good if we do a reunion booklet.

No Allen, I'm simply stating you're doing a great job at stirring up memories and contributing to the message forum. Keep it up!!

I think sister Julie was "sister bulldog" and sister margret was "sister tarzan".
The sixth grade songs we sang were
the world is black, the world is white..by 3 dog knight.the other song was speak to the sky and forgot the artist.

Wow Donna! Thinking back, those are the only 2 songs I distinctly remember singing back in grade school. Interestingly enough, at that same time, my grandmother was away for a few months and my mom decided my siblings and I were all going to tape cassette music for her (singing, guitar, organ) and send it to her. Guess which song I sang? Yep, Speak to the Sky. My mom is playing the guitar and I'm singing it. My mom made a copy of the original version on tape a few years ago and sent it to me as part of a Christmas gift that I still have. Imagine hearing yourself at 12 again...weird feeling.

And Peter, doubt you're going to hell. Don't panic yet, there's still time for you to redeem yourself. How about more pic's of that great physique of yours?? Great story on the car...sure remember Tim's mom and those ceramic whatchamacallems!

Sister Bulldog, Sister Tarzan...they basically all blend together and come up in the category of insulting and mean and too old to teach. The things I remember are the mean comments that they would throw out to a kid in a situation and 2 I personally remember are: "Did you swallow gravel? You sing like you have a mouthful of gravel" in response to the fact that I sang at a low level, not high soprano. Unfortunately my daughter also has that lower voice and struggles to sing as well. The other insult was when I was making a "project" in 6th grade and humming to myself in the classroom as we all worked. The really old battle-axe said "You like to hum? " then made me stand in the hallway with a paper bib on, Baby Hum written on it, as penance for interrupting the class. Back to a comment way back in the forum, I remember in 6th or 5th grade, Priscillla Daigle, who was a fantastic teacher and expected you to work hard........becoming pissed when we all were talking too much as we worked and a spiral-bound 15 lb. Math book came flying into the back of the class. She had basically good aim, and fortunately no-one got hit by that one. That was at Market Street school, I think. Remember standing in line at school to get shots?? Lisa Dumond, you sure got the short end by being the designated driver. I remember riding around with Donna Paradis, with her first car, a stick which she couldn't really drive, and we were all crammed in, becoming more intoxicated by the moment, and yelling out constant directions to her, and laughing hilariously whenever she stalled -- which was every 200 yards. We'd lay some rubber, and then stall, then go, PHEW!

Allen,

I have been thinking and thinking who that could be that was the tallest one in our Kindergarten class. Who is it?

02/12/09 01:33 PM #121

Allen J. Voisine

Lisa, he certainly wasn't the tallest, in fact he was one of the 5 shortest guys at graduation, with those hints, and that you now that you know the gender of the person, what was the reason he was taller and then grew shorter then grew taller to a point but still ended shorter then most by graduation.

Sr. Ouida's last name was Mazzol.... (it is defintely spelled wrong but something like that). The other 3 nuns were from St. John - Sr. Margaret, Sr. Julie, and don't forget Sr. Marie, the librarian). Does anyone remember the 4th grade teacher, Nellie (Belly) Pelletier? She would go in the back of the class to pull up her slip (or girdle) and pantyhose.

Allen

I am thinking hum????? Is it you? If so, I don't know why?

02/12/09 05:57 PM #124

Lisa Dumond (Collins)

I only remember Sr Margaret. I do remember everyone saying that Sr Julie was very nice. Of course we were the lucky ones to have Sr Margaret for both grade 7 English and Grade 8 English. I remember Sr Margaret letting us watch the game show Gambit from time to time. Does anyone else remember that?

02/12/09 08:14 PM #125

Donna M. Daigle (Pierce)

Yes, I do remember Sr. Margaret letting us watch a gameshow, but didn't remember the name....good memory, Lisa. I remember everyday on the chalkboard she would have a wise saying or proverb for the day, too.

Speaking of Nellie-Bellie Pelletier, Sue I think many students may have nightmares from her class. I was scared stiff the entire year, hoping to avoid any physical backlashing....

Lisa, I had crutches or braces on either of my legs and the other had a shoe with a large heel. I still have a limp of sorts when I wear heavier shoes especially in the winter. My right show still wears out faster than my left. Strange, Huh? A doctor a few years back said it was physological because my brain still thinks my leg still has a brace on it.

Donna, I think some of those phrases where from the Bible. Do you remember how she had us then diagram the sentences and she had us use popsicle sticks to make the lines needed.

02/13/09 06:50 PM #128

Donna M. Daigle (Pierce)

yes,... cool..same proverbs I am using today...I post a proverb weekly on a dry erase board on my refrigerator...

it is all coming back with the popsicle sticks...collectively, when we all post our memories we can piece back together more of our childhood this way..

02/13/09 06:56 PM #129

Gloria Bourgoin (Santarpia)

Lisa, how did YOU remember that?? Gambit!! I used to love that show although I don't remember the objective of the game but do remember Wink Martindale very clearly. I do remember watching it in Sr. Margaret's class...I'm also trying to figure out what type of lesson was involved in a game show!

02/13/09 08:15 PM #130

Allen J. Voisine

Sue, it seems that Nellie Belly had some security problems, that is with her under garments. LOL LOL. I never had as a teacher, because I was across the river.

I found the following to refresh your minds on how the game show Gambit worked: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambit_(game_show).
