Obituary for Gerald “Jerry” Alan Greider

Gerald “Jerry” Alan Greider, 70, a Buckeye-Hoosier and currently a Morgan County resident, stood up in front of the gates of hell, and with the strongest of wills and sarcastic wits, he never backed down. Cancer robbed this world of another one of the “good guys,” and heaven hit the jackpot when Jerry entered his final flight at 9:23 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

Jerry was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, on September 21, 1953, to the late Robert Earle “Bob” and Lois Irene (Beckman) Greider.  He was an alumnus and 1972 Franklin High School class graduate in Warren County, Ohio. Jerry Les and Denny were thick as thieves growing up in Central Ohio.  Riding on their bicycles from sun up to sun down, they were an all-American trio who even went to see the Kentucky State Fair.   When Jerry's dad unexpectedly passed, life profoundly changed, and the magic of childhood faded into reality at the age of 17.

Following his father and grandfather's career path, Jerry was a third-generation printer who deservingly climbed the chain of command and management and retired after 22 years from Univenture.  In June 1975, Jerry won Scheral Wallace's hand and came to share in the peaks and valleys. For his remaining 49 years, Jerry joined the Air Force in 1976 and transferred to the Reserves to continue his service.  While living on the Wright--Patterson Air Force Base, Jerry and Scheral celebrated the birth of their daughter, Tracy.  Moving to Indiana before Robert was born, the kids grew up in Mooresville High School.  Loyal to his family, Jerry loved to tell a good joke or get a rise out of them.

He frequently shifted his gears and was always on the go when engaged in several projects.  A master at entertaining, crafting, baking, and operating the grill.   His vibrant energy attracted people from all walks of life, and his sharp wit and playful sarcasm kept the atmosphere exciting and fun.  Jerry had a unique ability to read between the lines and understand unspoken feelings; he knew how to go in the way of service and help without help others without being told or asked. He enjoyed traveling, taking trips in the camper, and taking cruises, which were one of his favorite activities. On cruises. Music was important in life; listening to anything from classic rock to old traditional country. In acknowledgment of the three legends, thanks to John Paul and George. B, and he played the guitar and performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville with country Music Hall of Fame singer Connie Smith.

Survivors include his beloved wife and better half of 50 years,  Scheral (Wallace) Greider of Eminence; daughter, Tracy Dalton (husband, Matt) of Monrovia; and son,  Robert “Bobby” Greider (wife, Kayla) of Mooresville; 6 adored grandchildren, Lexi & Zach Carlton both of Monrovia, Gavin, Sofiana, Mannix, & Lavien Greider all of Mooresville; brothers, Les Greider (wife, Vicki) of Lebanon, OH & Denny Greider (wife, Beth) of Middletown, Ohio; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia.  A reunion to Celebrate Jerry’s Life will be hosted by his family and held later.  To contribute to Jerry’s memory, the family has suggested that donors choose between the National Kidney Foundation (Indiana Chapter) at https://kidneyindiana.org/donate/ and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at https://givenow.lls.org/.  Online condolences, favorite stories, and photos may shared on Jerry’s tribute at www.lightmemorial.com.
