ANNOUNCEMENTS

Classmate Just Published a Book

This is to advise that Tom Twitty, one of our guest members from the Bogie Class of '62, has just published a book about his experience, as well as others in our Class, as a member of the 231st Transportation Company during the Vietnam War.  Some highlights follow:

Mekong Delta Yacht Club
Grandad Gators, Call-Up the Reserves

Author Tom Twitty

Amid the intense backdrop of the Vietnam War, a unique group of U.S. Army Reservists from Tampa Bay, FL, found themselves navigating the waterways of the Mekong Delta on an unprecedented, high-risk mission. This new book brings to life their experiences, struggles, and victories as they embarked on a surprise secret mission with nineteen heavily modified and fully armed LCM-8 landing crafts (Mike Boats), tasked with supporting the Mobile Riverine and 9th Infantry forces in the 3,000 miles of navigable waterways of the Mekong Delta.

Through the eyes of author and veteran crew member Tom Twitty, readers will witness the shock of deployment during what was considered an undeclared war or national emergency. There was a complete shift in mission and equipment from what the men had previously trained on. Still, their ability to adapt as a close-knit unit with exceptional skills fostered camaraderie against all odds. The mission was to support Operation Game Warden. This joint operation involved the United States Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, and South Vietnamese forces to deny North Vietnamese Regulars and the Viet Cong forces the use of the massive 15,000 square miles of the Mekong Delta. This was 1968, the Year of TET, and all Hell Broke Loose.
