Elton Bland Carroll (Teacher) - Class Of 1989

ELTON BLAND CARROLL, 60, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday morning, March 8, 2003. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church of San Angelo. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 11, at 2:00 p.m., at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ron Patterson of Harvest Baptist Church, and the Rev. Ronald McGaughey, officiating. Burial followed in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Elton Bland Carroll was born on August 3, 1942, in San Angelo, Texas to Newell William Carroll and LaVerne (Baer) Carroll. He is survived by his Mother, LaVerne Carroll of San Angelo, his sister, Carolyn, and husband, the Rev. Ronald McGaughey of San Angelo, two uncles, Edward L. Baer and Richard W. Baer, both of San Angelo, and a special cousin, Pat DaPeer, Irving, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Newell William Carroll; a brother, Richard Edward Carroll, Brookshire, Texas; and a brother, Jack Carroll, Houston, Texas. In 1955, he moved with his parents to the Stumberg Ranch near Sanderson, Texas. He graduated from Sanderson High School in 1960. Elton received his B.A. from North Texas State Teachers College in 1966. He received his Masters of Fine Art degree in 1984. Elton taught in Sam Houston High School for almost 30 years. He was voted "Teacher of the Year" in 1982, 1984 and 1988. Six of his plays won First Place. Published in the Houston Chronicle on 3/16/2003.
