Just wanted to let everyone know how much I enjoy the sharing of memories.

Delores, been forgetting to tell you my 14 yr. old granddaughter in her first year in high school is a ROTC "flag girl".  I remember you being an ROTC "sponsor", am I correct?  I have told my daughter & her hubby about you and George.  There was another couple whose names I don't remember were in ROTC together.  Granddaughter didn't want to take P.E.  She was in band in Jr. High, but the new magnet school she's attending in Baton Rouge doesn't have a band or football team, but has an orchestra & ROTC.  She plays violin in orchestra.  Orchestra is not a class, they practrice after school.

I don't know about the rest of you but i'm looking forward to the cooler weather taking over. Not a lot of freezing ice to have to try and drive on but in the 60's would be nice.

We moved here to Centerville 12-1/2 yrs ago and all but 3 of those years we have gotten snow. No not feet of it but enough to cover the yard and make everything look pretty so I could take some pictures of it. Beautiful to see a pasture with a cover of snow over it and a bunny sitting in the middle of it or a deer.

One Easter we had enough snow that we built a 5 ft snow bunny.

I would take 100 degree weather over 50 any day.  Love it warm.

What a fantastic reunion. Sorry I did not get to meet and visit with everyone. Those of you that i did get to greet, it was such a wonderful time to renew  and visit good times at Sam Houston. I wish all of our classmates could have been there. I enjoyed sharing the articles from the Aegis, and hope to share more in future days. I also hope that I can make a connection with the new Aegis class of SH and share with them our memories.

I personally want to extend my sincere thanks to all of the people who made the reunion possible. I know it took hours of work and I know sometimes you probably thought it was for nought, but it wasn't, and we all need to extend to you the greatest gratitude.

On last thought that I want to extend. Since teaching students over the past 30 years, I have come across a lot of students who were not involved in any club, group, or organnization. I know that at the reunion we took pictures of all of our clubs and groups, and I want to say we should have made a picture of you who were not involved in those days for some reason or another. You are a part of the Tigers Den and at our next reunion we need to take a picture of you becasue you have been as successful as the rest of us. Please accept our apology and again remember that you are a part of us too.

I have met a lot of you and were friends with you in school as well as now. I love all of us and am very thankful again for those who put or reunion together.

Looking forward to us all meeting together again.

Frank Schaefer, Sports editor of the Tigers Den.

Well said.  I don't normally post on these sites but your words struck a cord.  There were so many students who were "just there" - weren't involved in any structured activities.  They hesitate to attend reunions because they feel that they don't have anything to "relive".  The reunions should be an opportunity to make new friends as well as reconnect with old.  I think that the class of 1967 is planning a reunion for next year and I am thinking about attending hoping that someone I know will be there but also hoping that I will connect with someone I don't know yet.  We all have a common thread "Sam Houston"..

Judy Maxwell, i too, am looking foward to cooler weather, but for a somewhat different reason.  Living here in the NE, i ride motorcycles all summer, and when the snow hits the ground, I park it, and get out my snow skis.  I ski until the snow has melted, then it's time to get the Harley out again!  :)   I ski Mountain Creek NJ every weekend, an hour from the house, and also Okemo VT for extended trips.  ...Also, Judy, my second home away from home, (not counting my history on Houston's northside,) is Leona.  Just down the road from you!

Well it sounds like you have your seasons down and what activity you do in what season. The Harley riding sounds like fun and something I could handle. Now for snow sking I have never tried but afraid that one I might have to pass on. I'm not sure I could handle that, I have been water sking and like it but the never have I been sking in the snow.

Yes Leona is just down the road from me How often do you make to Leona? I might know some your neighbors

I agree with you on the reunions and the ones that might not have been in a special porogram. We the class of 71 just had a reunion last month and I did attend, I enjoyed seeing people I remembered and talked to a few I didn't remember.

Now what I am fixing to say I don't want to hurt anyone or make anyone feel like I didn't have a good time but ~

I wish we had taken  group picture of all that attended. Some people are shy and not outgoing and they may not attend because once you get there they do not mingle. Then they talk to no one or very few and may wonder why they attended. I wish  at ours they would have taken a moment and let everyone stand and say their name. I found out some people I wish I had seen were there and I didn't see them or talk to them. I like trivia so I would have liked to see a little more interaction than we had. They could have asked if anyone was still with the person they dated in school or who had been married the longest. The DJ I feel could have chatted it up a bit more and got people a little more involved. I know it is hard to do what everyone likes but once we got there and ate  there was no other "activity" NOW PLEASE don't think I didnt't enjoy it but for the money spent it could have been better ~ I know this will upset some but if it is not mentioned then the committes don''t know what we want. Maybe reach out to those that are shy and see if they want to be on the committee.

Thanks that is all I have to say and remember I am not complaining just suggesting.

Looking forward to the next one and maybe we don''t need to wait 5 yrs for the 50th lets have another one and plan a picnic or something ! Shoot an email to people and tell them when and where and see who shows up.

Take care

Judy

Glenda Nunley (Burkhalter) (1967)

Good morning everyone,

Just a reminder that the Class of 1967 committee has reserved a venue for July 22, 2017 in the Houston Intercontinal Airport area for our 50th reunion. This includes the June and December 1967 classes and those that should have been in one of these classes that may have graduated earlier or did not graduate with the class for whatever reason. If there are those that were friends with this class, you are welcome as well. Another note, this will probably be our last reunion, so please set this time aside if only for an hour or so.

Information will be sent out later, but we need the most current e-mail and home address information as soon as possible. So many have changed addresses and changed phones and e-mails. We have not been able to contact many of our classmates since the first reunion.  If you have a friend and/or relative that you know should be contacted, please forward the information to Plyles Smith, now Phyles Schobel at plschobel@gmail.com. Phyles will update the listing. Please share this information, thanks, Glenda Nunley Burkhalter   Once again, information to plschobel@gmail.com

You know I helped with the reunion and I appreciate your comments.  With events like our reunion, it seems like the same people always step up to make sure the reunion happens.  What is needed is  people volunteering to help.  Every reunion less and less people are helping. So all the work is falling on a few people.  I know fresh Ideas would be appreciated and helpful.  So I hope this means you are willing to help with our 50th reunion.

Yes, I'm ready to help with the next one and like I said maybe we should get together before the 50th even. Some of us would like to and are talking about a picnic so who know what we might get together and thanks for your help with this last one I know we did have fun.

Judy Maxwell, I am afraid that i don't know anyone that lives in Leona.  Our family ranch is in Leon County west of the little town, and as a kid, we always used the feed store there on HWY75, which is now a steak house, eh?  I get down about every 18 months or so.... :)  My siblings and their kids and grandkids are up there often.  Deer season is just around the corner.   funny memory, there was only a stop sign at the intersection of HWY 75 and 977.  It was years before they got a blinking yellow one installed there, and many more years before they put up a red light.   :)  I think they went back to the blinking yellow one again....

I had a first cousin that graduated from Centerville HS, probably '69, and they lived in Leona at the time.  My grandmother lived her last days in the nursing home there in Centerville.  Fond memories of that area....

They now have it where on 75 it is a yellow flashing and on 977 it's red flashing so 977 has to stop for 75. Leona is small enough that is all they need ~ population is less than 200 people. Now in the BIG town of Centerville we are up to 873 people so we have the one red flashing at 75 and Hwy 7 so we all have to stop for it. I doubt it will ever be a full stop signal (red and green) but thats ok that is one of the reasons we moved here. Small town living it the best~

Hello everyone!

Hope all of you are having a great day. We spent last week-end having a big Halloween party at my Nieces house and it was a great time. With Halloween just around the corner what are your plans? Do you have little ones that trick-or-treat? DO you hand out candy? Join in an area trunk-or-treat? Turn off your light and lock your doors? I'm so far into the woods no one comes out our way that why I came to Houston to celebrate and party with the dead at a party there,

Lets get some chatter going on what we will be doing for Halloween.

I was the fortune teller at the party and read over 100 palms! It was a wonderful time and the kids and adults alike enjoyed themselves

                             .

Marie, I apologize for being so late in responding to your message.  Yes, you are correct.  George and I were in ROTC together.  The other couple that you are asking about is Annette Higginbotham and Michael LaVallee.  We got married in July 1961; they in August 1961.  Michael passed away in 2003, after having been in a coma since April 1982 (twenty-one years).   They were both such beautiful people and were so devoted to each other.  Michael was like a brother to me.  We have lost contact with Annette these past few years, but would love to hear from her.

I ran for ROTC sponsor, because - like your daughter- I didn't want to be in P.E.  Ms Reddick forced me to jump into the deep water in the pool and I am STILL deathly afraid of the water.  She made the entire class wait until I jumped, resulting in all of them being late to their next classes. I was so embarrassed!  I promised myself that day, that I would find a way out of P.E. !!  Happy that I did, because I met some life-long friends in R.O.T.C.

Judy Maxwell, I remember Shirley from school. I don't have any special plans for this year for Halloween. I have been known to volunteer my time to watch schools or churches to prevent vandalism. I pastor a country church and there is rarely any activity in our area unless we have something at the church. Have a great week!

Hi Steve !

Shirley is on here from time to time.

What country chuch are you Pastor at? I too live in the country ~ our town is about 18 miles from us and the population is 893 ~ "Centerville TX" half way between Houston and Dallas. The churches in and around here do Trunk-or-treat and there are a few haunted woods around. Everyone out side of town are so wide spread it is hard to go door to door when there are miles between neighbors.

Good to hear from you and I will mention it to Shirley too. I was at here daughters house as Fortune Teller

Delores,   Thanks for replying.  Yes, it was Annette & Michael in ROTC.  I'm in shock & sorry to know about Michael in coma for so many years!  Do you know the cause of the coma?  1961 was a year for marriage for the class of '59?  I married in Aug.' 61 also.  I enjoy genealogy research.  I'll get back w/you if I find anything on Annette.

Judy, the Halloween party must have been great fun & great picture!  Was everyone pleased with their "fortunes"?

Glad to see messages once again!  Thought maybe the reunion was so much fun everyone had to take time off to recoverwink.  Enjoy the cooler weather!

Yes the party was great and I do think everyone enjoyed their fortunes ~ some children and Adults thought I was a real fortune teller. I had tarot cards and a crystal ball on hand to help with my palm reading.  We also had the spirit of a grandmother come to us when we ask that she give us a sign that she was watching from above. Everyone had a good palm reading ~~  I'm all about white light fortunes no bad or evil ~~ Looking forward to our next adventure ............

Here's a shout out to the cutest/sexest skelton at the party ~ Martha Buchanan ~

Judy Maxwell,

I pastor Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church between Scranton and Subiaco, Arkansas. The church was organized in 1870 as close as we can find. Records were destroyed twice, once by flood and once by fire. The building was moved a half mile from the original location, then turned, later it was remideled by taking the top floor off. Then the current sanctuary was built in 1994. I've had good times and bad times. Tell Shirley that I said "HELLO" and I'll watch for her sometime.

I love old country churches ~ when we first moved to Centerville (13 yrs ago) I went to work for the First United Methodist Chuch ~ at that time they had just celebrated their 155 anniversary of the church ~ They have a new fellowship hall and offices but the original old chuch had so much charm to it. Some of the old records they have are neat to look at and the pictures of the chuch over the years and how the town went from dirt roads to pavement. Nothing like old town ~ small town living. Yes bumps along the way I feel like build us into who we are. If everthing was always easy we would get spoiled!

I told Shirley you said hi! she will be on here and will give you a shout out I'm sure.

Take care

Judy

Hi Steven It's been a while. Good seeing you on the site. I still live in Houston not far from Sam Houston. It's a nice little subdivision with great neighbors. Sonds like you have a great life. Judy loves the country I try to go up there & vist her when I can. I'm not a country girl I love the city. If you make it to Houston we will have to get togeather. I look forward to seeing your post on the Sam site.

Hi Steve,

Hey I looked up your picture in the year book ~ so you were a football player. What neighborhood did you grow up in? We lived in Pinewood Village off Little York and 59. Went to Patrick Henry Jr. High and Scarborough Elementery.  We had a gathering of the old neighborhood last year and I need to plan another one soon. Wanted to extended the invatation to you as well if you grew up in our area. We had a good visit and there was about 15-16 there.

Talk again soon, and I see Shirley said hey to you as well!
