3152 - Hey Randy, it's nice to know we don't have to fix that wheel barrow if we don't want to. :-) Makes life a lot easier and smoother. Have a good week man. Catch ya later. :-)

Sorry to anyone who did not receive the original e-mail about the 50th reunion for Class of ''67.  We sent out e-mails to everyone that we had contact information for.  However, we had many e-mails that were returned as undeliverable.  Be assured that it was NOT because we meant to leave anyone out.  However, if anyone still needs the info please contact me at plschobel@gmail.com and I will be happy to resend to you.  Phyles

Shirley and I wnet by Sam last week end and took lots of pictures......The whole end of the property has been bull dozed under. Will have to get the picures off my phone or get Shirley to post some she took. I got a new phone this week-end and i have not had a chance to get any ot the pics off of it.

It looks so different from we went there.

Progress I guess!

Ruben Garza (1967)

Hey Judy! Thanks for the update. I hate to hear that they are already starting construction on poor Ol' Sam. I wonder if they're using metal dectors to find old relics and coins? I remember when I was there I wrapped 35 cents in my tee shirt before running track because that's all I had. I was saving it to buy two gallos of gas on the way home. I'm thinking they may have found it because I lost it that same day, running around the track. Oh well, What memories. Probably all we're all going to have left.!!!!

Judy Maxwell (1971)

Ruben, 35 cents sure wouldn't get much gas these days. Ours is running around $2.20 a gallon in Centerville ~ No telling what all was dug up on the grounds around there. ~ Hopefully no dead body!!

Wow, ten days and not even any brick talk.

Ruben Garza (1967)

Hey Fred! I went by there the other day and got my shovel out and got a Home Depot bucket full of dirt from the construction site and spread it out in my back yard. I'd be damn if a bunch of bluebonnets sprouted out. They were black and gold. Could not believe it!! And I guess you can tell I graduated from Sam because I still can't spell!!! ;)

Ruben,

Black and gold bluebonnets huh. Makes me wonder what's in that glass.

In the 1964 yearbook my picture would be with the junior class. I was a mid-termer and was actually scheduled to graduate in January of 1965. My tassel and ring all had 65 on them. I needed only one half credit and two subjects to graduate so I decided to go to summer school in 1964 and graduate early. My graduation ceremony was held at the Music Hall in downtown Houston in the summer of 1964 with several hundred other students from all over the city. I guess I'm actually a man without a class but I promise I was a student at Sam Houston for two and a half years. I was president of the FFA there in the 63/64 semester and still have my blue jacket to prove it. That blue jacket and the years I spent under the leadership of Mr. John Seward in vocational ag means more to me than my picture in the yearbook. I don't have a yearbook but take a look again and you will probably find my mug with the 65 crowd.

Dolores Loocke (Ross) (1959)

It is with much sadness, that I let you know of the passing of Mathew Constantino, a beloved SHHS math teacher and a friend to many of us.

Mr. C came into my life 63 years ago, when I was only twelve years old. He was my math teacher at Burbank Jr. High.  During the remaining years of Burbank Jr. High and then Sam Houston Sr. High, he was my teacher five more times,as well as my bus driver.  He played a BIG part in George and my dating, as well as our marrying 56 years ago.  We had stayed in touch all of these years, and in fact, enjoyed a long telephone conversation just two months ago. He was such a special friend and I shall miss him.

The following is his obit.  May he rest in peace.

Mathew C. Constantino, age 95, of Georgetown, Texas passed away on June 4, 2017. He was born July 15, 1921 in Rochester, New York to Saverio and Jennie (Vincenzo) Constantino. Mathew married Yvonne Naegeli on January 17, 1987 in Houston, Texas. He worked for the Houston Independent School District before his retirement. Mathew was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Constantino; daughter, Carol Lee Griswold; 2 step children; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother; 2 sisters.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 6:00 pm at Ramsey Funeral Home with a Rosary beginning at 7:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 10:00 am at Santa Rosa Catholic Church in Andice with Father Larry Stehling officiating. Burial will follow at 12:00 noon at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with military honors.

Fred, those Agg jackets are very special. I still have mine too. I was President 65-66. Just missed Mr Stewart. He retired the year I started but Mr. Harvey was a good teacher and a lot of fun. Then my last half year we had Mr. Cherry a young guy who learned a lot from us. FFA was, beyond a fought, the best part of my school days at Sam Houston.

Delores 3172 and anyone else who had Mr. Constantino, he was one of the best!! Thank you Delores for posting all this and sharing all the info about him. Will definitely go post on the website. I was just thinking of him as our 55th coming up in August. Guess I had him at Burbank too. Great teacher and great man as you said.

I agree with you 100% about those being the best days. The subject or course was called vocational agriculture and if you took that course you could join the Future Farmers of America (FFA) which was the club. The course was 2 hours long and we got to take many field trips doing a variety of things.

Mr. John Seward was pretty old when he taught me. Not sure of his age but he drove the school bus when my mother went to Jeff Davis and she said he was old then. He had some heart problems during one semester and was off for 6 weeks. He and Mr. Pal were good friends so Mr Pal would check on us when we got to class to make sure everyone was there then he went about his business. We did not have a substitute teacher for 6 weeks. Only Mr. Pal to check on us at the begining of each class then we were on our own for 2 hours. We wanted to make Mr. Seward proud of us so we did not screw up. I wonder how that situation would work in today's system of public education?

Randy, I'm just wondering if your FFA jacket shrunk over the years like mine did. The dang thing fit back then but it don't now. I don't know what happened to it.

Kerry Kimbro (Kimbro) (1971)

I was Vice President my junior year (70)and President (71)my senior year of the vocational ag classes.  Very proud of my accomplishments in those years. Had some great times and learned quite a lot too. There must be some sort of conspiracy as my FFA jacket shrunk too.

Hey Kerry. Did you live on Exeter  off Charles Street and Margaret Street. Did you have a brother by the name of Steven and a a Dad by the name of Thad? I knew some Kimbroughs. or Kimbrors. Just don't know if you were related to them.
