I'm at the age now where I'm trying to get rid of a bunch of stuff I've accumulated over the years, not gather more. Someone can have my brick.

Hey there to you Cathy. I remember the neighborhood well.

Life has been good. I live in the Hill Country outside of Georgetown and have two wonderful grown children and two young adults. One a Junior in Engineering at A&M and one who will be a Sr. in High School and QB the football team next year. My wonderful wife still works and has her own business helping find employment for disabled people for the Texas Workforce Commission.

I still do a little consulting.

I never knew so many people would reply to a building being torn down and the chance of getting a brick from it. I guess Sam Houston has more followers than I thought. Doug glad you posted you will have to join in with us. Reuben I found your post funny and had thought the same thing. Now as far as paying $25.00 for a brick Love Sam or not I will pass on that. It is just a brick. I will get some pictures of the site and let you see whats going on. It will be a year or two before the main building is worked on and or torn down. The link I had posted shows a picture of what they plan on building and the time line on it.

Have a great Monday everyone!

I will soon be parked at the corner of Irvington and Tidwell in an old black Duce-225 with the trunk lid up. Come by and touch and see these bricks....even smell them if you like. I will take $1000 each, no checks and no c.c. ..... cold hard cash just like the bricks......yeehaw!

Charlotte Pate:

Thank you for calling Sam Houston to inquire about purchasing bricks from the old building.  I would like to have 2 bricks; one for my sister, Patsy, who graduated in 1967, and one for me.  To be honest, I would really rather they preserve the old building.  I know that it was not a classic, fancy building, but it holds a very special place in the hearts of many of us who walked those halls years ago.  Many happy, funny memories!

I must have missed some postings on this Message Forum.  Are there plans for a 50th reunion for 1968 graduates?

The article says project will go on until 2019 so it will be a while ~ they have to get the new one built before tearing the old one down. I have a link on post #3086 if you would like to read the article and see the pictures of what the new SAM HOUSTON will look like.

From the Sam Houston ISD website so don't make room on that shelf for a brick for a few more years.  Me - I am trying to get rid of stuff not add more. Happy collecting, everyone.

“The next thing we will be doing is removing the football field, track, and other fields so that we can lay the foundation,” said Satterfield and Pontikes Vice President John Marshall. “Phase I is completing the new school, which we plan to have ready for the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. Phase II is the demolition of the old building to make way for a parking lot and the new athletic fields, work that is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2020.”

Well, I guess it's true "you can't go home again"  or you can't even get a brick.  Would someone please stop by ole SH and maybe send me a few blades of grass?

Yep that is what I have been saying since I posted the link. The project says it will last through 2019 ~ They have to build the new building before tearing the old one down. They have al the track and tennis courts and paring lot on the North end torn up and they had build a nice ROTC brick building on that end as well long after we had left there. It has also been torn down. I will get some pictures and post ~ when I was there last week end it was too dark to get any picures to come out good, Road trip for picutres is always a good time

I changed my mind. That's my proghtive at my age. I do not want a brick, a blade of grass, or a chunk of concreat from SHHS. I'll just hang on to the memories I have left, good and bad, for as long as I am able to do so. Besides my wheelbarrow has a flat tire and I don't know if I'll fix it before 2020 or not. Have fun!

Dorothy Vick (Veale) (1967)

My sentiments exactly, Randy.  I already have too much stuff, and I just got a load of bricks to lay a level path from back yard to front drive that the wheelbarrow won't tip over on.  'hope you are doing well.  We are doing as well as we can. This Mother's Day I am thanking God for my 2 surviving children, Violet out in California and Claude nearby here in San Antonio.  You may remember that our youngest son Caleb died at age 31, 2-18-14 of a massive pulmonary embolism. The medical examiner informed us that there is a genetic blood clotting disorder, Factor 5 Leyden's behind that. I have been tested and do Not have that disorder, but when I was hospitalized with what turned out to be huge pulmonary emboli in July of 2015, 9 months after compound fracture of my right leg bones at the ankle, I was found to have an entirely different genetic marker MTHFR for blood clotting.  My brother Frank and I are both in the coumadin club to keep from any more blood clots.  In the meantime, our second son, Joshua died 1-13-17 at age 40 of a massive PE and was found to have DVT also. Quite a wake up call.  I sing The Steadfast Love of the Lord Never Ceases almost nonstop and am compelled to entrust God with all my family, living and dead, in His loving and merciful hands.

Dorothy Vick, I am so saddened by your losses.

Happy Mother's Day to all.  Mother's Day is also a day of sweet remembrance.  May those that have lost their mother or child be especially blessed today with peace.

The bricks---I have some great memories of my time at Sam Houston.  I thought when I heard about it that a brick would be great, then I realized one day my children will be going through all our "stuff" and wondering why we kept so much.  HAHA...So the memories in my mind of great friends, long halls, running to class, sitting in the parking lot waiting for a friend's car to warm up before it would run, awesome teachers that really cared....and more will have to be enough.

I love reading all these messages. Thank you to those of you that post.

I drive the Hardy Toll each Friday going home from Houston and the back again on Sunday for a week of work in the Medical Center.  I paid closer attention this weekend as I wasn't driving myself.  The practice fields are all gone and there is a lot of grading going on.  Piles of dirt and large machinery dot the property from the old gym (pool) all the way to Turner Dr.  It was a little sad to see but the newer generations, hopefull, will make the same sort of memories we have of our school in their new school.  We should keep them in our prayers.
