Yes! Attending Reunion
What elementary school(s)did you attend?

Penn (in Penn, Pennsylvania),and Durkee (in Houston, TX).

What Jr High (s) did you attend?

some in Pennsylvania and New York, which I cannot even remember the names..

But they were in Norwich, New York; Binghamton, NY, DuBois, PA. and Niagara Falls, New York.
Then finally Durkee, Burbank and Fonville in Houston, TX.
Then graduated from Sam Houston in June, '64.

What street(s) did you grow up on?

Hwy 75 (at the time..... years 1959 thru 1964.) It is now Hwy 45. how Ironic when I married and moved up here to Tenn with my husband we lived in the house he grew up in....and the address was Hwy 45!...and on our move from PA to houston, my daddy told me that the route we took went right past the house my future husband lived in......here in west Tenn.

Do you or your family still live or own your house that you grew up in?

No...Has been torn down..and I have no idea what is there now.

Do you see or hang out with any class mates? Who?

No, I don't see anyone from school...ever...not since I left Texas in Apr. 1965. .Connie (Redden) Hopper. and her husband did come up and stay overnight ...enjoyed that visit.
I have received emails from several people from school that posted to me on Classmates....and there are several that I keep in touch since Jan. 10, 2013.

My other two friends were JoAnn (Vaughn) Moses and Karen (Tyson) Grasty who I have been in contact with for the past few years.....again thanks to Paula.

I email with Connie Redden Hopper (our hostess here)...

What would we be surprised to know about you?

Some of you know me and some do not......but I would spend all my time in the swamps/bottoms (woods) if I could. I love photography, and being down there I see a lot of wildlife.

My pictures that I took of white squirrels are in a book that a lady wrote, and that book has been published. Several of my pics have won some contests, and/or been in magazines.

Where was your favorite HS hangout?

Bailey's on Crosstimbers (for the trout sandwich and onion rings) and as I got older and the place where I met my husband was at Prince's on Jensen Drive....and from there I loved the steak sandwich and onion rings, and a Coke. And to this day wish I had a Jack in the box close by.

Rainbow Roller Rink, Linder Lake, Galveston, and the dances at Mt. Houston and Aldine High School.

List your siblings and year.

Sister..... Amy (Cosgrove) Salvage 69 or 70...I married and left home while she was still in school and can never remember her grad year.

School Story:

I started first grade in Penn, PA. in 1951..and spent 3 grades in PA...my daddy was working for the Pennsylvania railroad when I was born...When I was about 8 years old we left PA...for Houston, TX...My daddy turned to sign painting and neon sign design...so in the winter we were in the South...(always Houston, because we had relatives there)...the winters were milder in the south ...then when summer hit...we headed back North, to Penna, or New York...because the summers were much nicer in the North...I went to school in Norwich, Binghamton, & Niagara Falls New York....at different years...then DuBois, Penna...and when I was 14 I think that is when we moved to Texas for good...that is the reason I am about a year behind everybody else.....We moved every year, north or south. I also attended Durkee elementary, Burbank, Fonville....and finally got to Sam Houston...where I got to graduate. I had more friends in the classes of '63 and '65 than I did in class of 1964.

Was much a loner, only joining the Rodeo Club.

What did you want to do or think you were going to do when you finished high school?

I wanted to be a veterinarian...but didn't like school...so that was out. I hated school... and I wanted to be a flight attendant...even took the schooling for this, and did well, then all the airplane crashes started happening...so I found out real quick I wasn't that brave/adventurous. just wanted to get away from SHHS...I never really gave much thot about what I wanted to do once I left school..

I never had the house with the little white picket fence dream...Guess I just took the days as they came.

What and where was your 1st job? Do you remember how much you were paid?

First job out of High school was at Stewart & Stevenson (purchasing Dept..in downtown Houston (Harrisburg Blvd.) TX...Probably cleared about $40.00 a week when I started...(1964).

Favorite Quote

One of my own: Leave friends (anyone really) with a kind word when saying goodbye......you never know if that will be the last time you see them. Be Kind to one Another..

Famous or interesting people you've met?

When I worked at the country music radio station in Gallatin, TN, I met Charlie Dick (Patsy Cline's husband,) ran into Roy Orbison several times while shopping in Nashville, Johnny Cash, LIttle Jimmy Dickens (he really is little), Jeannie C. Riley (Harper Valley PTA), Bill Anderson, Loretta Lynn, have been on the phone with Barbara Mandrell, (but only for about 20 minutes.) Tex Ritter (John Ritter's (of Three's Company") dad.

Ever been on TV? Tell us all about it.

Not to my knowledge.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Spare time? I don't know how we ever got anything done when we both worked!
But my spare time is outside with my cameras weather permitting.....otherwise I am on the computer working with my pictures....and other times, I just like to take off in my truck with no particular place to go, and just ride around looking for new place to take my camera for more photo ops.

I have more photos posted on my Facebook page . I am listed on FB as Sherri (Cosgrove) Drake. Still love photography...there are over a thousand of my photos on there....OH my! sounds like I need to get a life. hahaaa

Name something you dearly love. and why?

Something I dearly love...my husband...because if it were not for him, I don't think I would have half the things I have today, or be living where I live...I am really content....we have 2 dogs .....and I like being by myself as much as I can...I like the "sounds of silence"...It's not called being lonely.....it's called solitude, and it's by choice.

Comments:

What have I been doing since 1964? hmmmm I was so glad to graduate and get out of there
School was not pleasant for me...and I was made fun of a lot...because I was the "skinny" girl....and nobody liked skinny girls back then...They wanted the curvy ones....but that is okay now...because now I am where I wanted to be back then. LOL

I married in 1965 and left Texas with my new husband that I met in Houston at Prince's Drive In on Jensen. (He was from Tenn...this same little town where we now live). We lived in the same house he was raised in from the age of about 5 or 6.

We are still married.....59 years! as of Jan. 29th 2024. Wow! (and I only knew him 2 months to the day when we married!

We moved out here in the country in 1997...and I love it here.....will never live anywhere else unless it is in Jackson Hole Wyoming.

We just got back from a vacation to Alaska this past June 2008.....Alaska is beautiful! and then went to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Estes Park, Colorado...and others, but these 2 places are my very favorite. Been both of these places three times each.

We stay pretty busy with our house and yard.

I met Connie and everyone else that I talk with on the Sam Houston site thru the other Sam site...Connie and Bobby have been up here and visited with us, and that was nice. I don't go to the reunions, because there is no one that would remember me...I kinda stayed to myself.....still do....Have re-connected with the 3 friends that I was close to in school, but haven't seen them since I graduated.

Write to me, I try to answer all my emails and messages.

Hope to see this "forum" make a go of it....and hopefully we can have a lot of participation....

As for what I've been up to....just surviving....and living my life like I want to. We used to garden (then put the stuff up from the garden)....we mow these almost 5 acres twice a week....keep the house...Ben goes on vacations each year with 2 of the guys he worked and retired with...and I have a mini vacation when he is gone...which is really nice...

We are both retired......me....since 1997 and Ben since 2003. Life is good. :)

Any words of wisdom?

The Golden Rule... Just treat others ...even strangers like you would want to be treated. Everybody is fighting some kind of battle. Just be kind. Have and show some compassion...

Is there a moment in your life that stands out? A moment that defines who you are? Other than kids being born or your wedding day.

A moment that defines who I am???
Let's just say I treat everyone like I would like to be treated..

Good morning all....I'm still around, still mobile and in good health...still thin, but now have that silver hair (which I always wished for)... I am hoping the hot weather is gone for another year.....(but I won't hold my breath)...I love fall and I hope it will be around for awhile...How is everybody? If you're on Facebook, give me a holler, I will answer . You know we have a shorter time left than what we have in........I have hundreds of photos on my Facebook page (Sherri Cosgrove) Drake in west Tenn.) and on my Classmates & SHHS page...I hope all of you are doing well...would like hearing from those that may remember me. Our years are getting shorter everybody....Take nothing for granted,

Don't let your "I should get in touch with _______ " turn into "I wish I had looked up and contacted ________". We never know what our tomorrow's (or even later today) will bring....and those people will be gone. Pass out hugs to those you do care about.
