Remembering Burma-Shave... Almost every other weekend, our family would make the 3 hour drive to see my Grandma in Jasper, Texas. Winding up and down the old Eastex freeway to Livingston, then heading east we passed the Alabama-Coushatta Indian reservation (which at that time was nothing but a sign at an intersection!) and crossed over Dam B to zigzag through the woods to my Grandma's house. In between times of fighting with my brothers and asking Dad if we were there yet, one of my favorite things to do was hunt for Burma-Shave signs. When I came across these, a wave of wistful nostalgia ran through me. Here are a few of my favorites. I hope these bring a smile to you too.

* Her chariot * Raced 80 per * They hauled away * What had * Ben Her - Burma-Shave
* Altho insured * Remember, kiddo * They don't pay you * They pay * Your widow - Burma-Shave
* Soap * May do * For lads with fuzz * But sir, you ain't * The kid you wuz - Burma-Shave
