Hey Rick

Loved the song and the video!  You have a great voice and it was very entertaining. 2020 has certainly been one for the history books. Hope you and your family are safe and well.

Take care

That was great Rick!    thanks for sharing it with us, do y'all have anymore  songs that you put together?  Really nice voices, I could understand every word.

John (Billy) Spies (1971)

Rick, thanks for posting your video. I really enjoyed. I was in Mark's class at Coop Elem. and I remember going to your house a couple of times. You guys had a bulldog that did not like the heat; I was impressed that she had ice in her drinking water. I had never seen that before. The things we remember as a kid. Thanks again for sharing your composition.

Rick - I enjoyed your video, great image collage, too. I’m trying to accept the fact that I am in that certain age group you mentioned. Not that a number bothers me, but I tend to look for younger people when I am wondering if I might know someone somewhere!

Caren Reynolds (Cates) (1965)

Rick, Loved the song & video, great job! We can all use some fun during this crazy time!!

I am appealing to Coop Elementary students!! I was wondering if anyone has class pictures? I have my 1st grade & 4th grade pictures, which I believe I have posted on this site. I am guessing that the 2,3,5& 6th grade pictures were destroyed in a fire. 😩 2nd grade would have been in 1955. I think my teacher was Mrs. Muff? My 5th grade was Mrs. Young & 6th grade, Mr Anderson.  If anyone out there has a group picture of these classes, please let me know or post  It is great to see our smiling face before we became “Boomers”.

Hope all you tigers are staying healthy & safe.

Blessings, Caren

Hey Everyone, Hope you all had a great week-end. Martha, loved seeing you and the girls Saturday!!

Thanks for all the positive remarks from Martha Buchanan and others, This site is for Sam Houston HIgh and I think we should all post what we are feeling and as one post said, if you don't like what your reading skip it and go on to the next. Now I am not saying that I want everyone to jump on here and start ranting and raving about Politics...BUT as I and others have mentioned we are not sure where her post was pointing towards as we have not seen any political post. And  as you see everyone picks a side.

Deborah #4587 ~ Rememberig Burama-shave...You sure remember a lot of the saying.....Thanks for taking us down a memory of yours!! Love remebering the trips as a child we took.....

Rick #4588 ~ Loved the song Rick, Do you have others posted?? Tell us the links or your you tube name,,,,,Look how many respones you got,.....We have people on here reading and will post if we can come up with something that interests them....I have a nephew that has his music on You Tube and and a friends Nephew does Post cast and has a huge following. If any of you have songs or something posted let s know.

Beth #4595 ~ I agree I am always looking at people and saying well that person over there and then think ~ well, they are probably younger than me but I stil don't feel like an "old" person.. It's omly a number.,..and I come from good genes, our Mom will be 97 July 10th

Caren #4596 ~ I didn't go to Coop but I hope someone posts the picutres you are looking for, I know Bobby Hopper has a bunch from Scarborough (where we went) and it is fun to look back over and see who you still remember. Barbara Mattair, has a very good memory!! You might check ans see if he has any from Coop. I think Connie went to Dechames

Everyone enjoy your week ~ Enjoy your Family and Friends ~ Let us know what your doing while in quarentine (If you are) and if your getting out and about please take care and stay safe,,,,,Us Boomers need to keep on keeping on to keep these younger ones in line...lol....

Rick #4588 - you sure stirred up some good conversation with your beautiful music and video. Very moving. I wasn't aware you were that talented. Wonderful. Keep up the great work.

Kathy Culpepper (Gunderson) (1968)

And to all the other people who posted today, this site is a great place to hear from our peers. It makes me feel young again.
Deborah #4587 very funny. Took me back to trips to grandma's house.
Elaine #4589 - our families deserve to live in the free country of our childhoods where we were safe enough to ride the city bus from the north side to downtown Houston after dark. Our forefathers, classmates and even some of our children have fought hard to provide this freedom. We need to cherish it and fight hard to preserve it for generations to come.

Thanks to all that posted comments. This is the most I have ever seen at once.

John Huettel, II (1968)

Last week Roy and Margaret Mudd came to visit....we always see them around March but the virus delayed everything...on Thursday we left headed for melrose park to play home run derby at Keaton field...both Roy and myself played their in 1957 thru 1962......trying to go twice a year at start a new tradition as we have gone for a few years...this time the parking lot was barricaded...we went to the park entrance which was open and found a practice field by the tennis courts...well this time we realize our achy shoulders and arms finally let us know it's a young mans game....bounced a few over the fence and still had a great time...leaving the park we took our tour of the neighborhood ...even with the changes Roy and I agree we still see the stores and shops and houses as they where in 1968 ....God Bless.....John Huettel '68

John,

Glad Roy & Margaret made it down to see ya. Yes there are some things we can no longer do even if our brain says we can... I was in Houston this week-end too. Guess we are starting to venture out to see what is going on in this crazy mixed up world. Up here where the 3 of us live it has been all quite. At least there were no riots and vandalism going on where I was. I agree too even with all the changes there are still some parts of the Northsite that have stayed the same.

Rick Arnst (Arnst) (1968)

I have to say I never expected to get such a response from my song.  Thank you so much to all of you who took the time to listen and add such kind comments.  So I will try to respond to the questions....

Paula 4590--Who's the voice?  None other than yours truly.  I feel so lucky to have kept most of it over the years!!

Erma 4591--Thanks for noticing I honestly tried to add a little fun into a serious situation.

Linda 4592 -- Nice to see you on here too---I really stay up with you on FB!

Sherri 4593 -- More songs?  I will probably kill you with this but several others have asked too so let me see if I can provide you with the link!   https://www.youtube.com/user/rarnst1021/videos     Dang that worked (I hope) LOL Might I suggest In My Dreams---Justa Chillin'---Road to Lonely---Fingernails On the Chalkboard---Somewhere---The Storm---My Brown-Eyed Honey---Hey Little Girl---Ordinary Man (written for a guy who had just attended our 50 year reunion and went home and died doing what he loved--sky diving)!!   And Let It Be You!!

Billy 4594---OMG you remember the Bulldogs--who could forget those faces only a mother could love!!

Beth 4595---Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes---Age is a mind over matter thing--If you don't mind it don't matter!!  LOL

Caren  4596---All my brothers and sisters went to Coop -- I started out at Burbank-- since they were all younger than me and since you were graduating Sam about the year I was getting there--I am sorry to say I do not think I could be much help to you.  Thank you for listening and I will tell you I do remember you at Sam.  To me you were like one of those Senior Godesses of the school at the time!!  Amazing huh??

Judy 4597--- Any more you ask??  Please see Sherri 4593  bet she is sorry she asked!!  LOL  There's lots!!!

Kathy C 4598 --- You didn't know I was that talented???  I guess you were THE ONLY CUTE GIRL in my class that I didn't tell that to repeatedly over and over!!  I am just kidding of course.  Bragging about myself has never been one of my strong suits.  I have always preferred the more humble approach!!  Thank you for noticing some 50 YEARS LATER!!!  LOL

Shirly 4604 --- Yes Shirly there are some more and I do have to say some of them are none to bad.  Hope you like them too.  Go to the link listed under Sherri 4593  You will find my whole catalogue there!!

Again thanks to everyone who took the time to listen--it really makes my day (lifel actually) when I am able to create something that others appreciate!!  Such a feeling of WOW!!  LOL

Rolanda Sandel (Beckmann) (1970)

Great to see all the posts.

Deborah #4587 - I remember the Burma Shave signs and loved them.  Thanks for sharing.

Rick #4588 - Great video  I am looking forward to seeing the others.

Judy #4581 - Thanks for keeping this site going.  It seems like when posting slows down, you put something out there and then we start seeing posts  I'm not good about posting on here; Facebook keeps me busy at times

As for the things we've been going through lately - virus and riots - it is has not been a good 2020. Speaking of protests, remember the one at Sam Houston in 1969 about bussing.  I remember it well as I participated and my parents got all over me about that.  I didn't want to be bussed anywhere because I only lived 3 blocks from the school - some kids had to park that far.  Anyway, I ended up going to summer school and was able to graduate in 1970 instead of 1971.  I live in Broken Arrow, OK (a suburb of Tulsa) the protests/some riots have been mild compared to some cities, but not nearly what we had at school some 50 years ago.

Rolanda #4609 ~

Thanks for posting. Yes, I too remember the riots at SAM ~ I also remember you too had your picture on the front page and your Mom not liking that. We have lived through riots on our on SAM Houston Campus. Hopefully we want be seeing anymore of that near us. Hope you stay safe.

Are you planning on coming to Texas in  October for 50th Reunion for the Class of 70? They have invited 69 and 70 so I have paid to go. My Sister Shirley is a 70 grad and so many of my friends were 70 so I think it will be fun, Then next year will be 71's 50th so I will hopefully be attending it as well.

It was good hearing from you ~ keep in touch and stay healthy!!

Judy

Shirley 4608  You mention the song In My Dreams---I wrote that one trying to get over the aingst of losing my son that commited suicide and my great niece who died from an unknown disease when she was 17.  Both passed very close to one another.  I had originally put the words together for my son's eulogy which I did at his funeral.  Then my niece ask me if I could put those words to music and sing it at my great nieces funeral.  Her name was Katie Rios.  I told her Mom Christine, sure I would be glad to do that expecting a little campfire type get together.  Boy I was amazed.  Katie was quite the popular little Northside (Porter and Kingwood) high schooler.  She was so beautiful and had a personality that just drew people to her like a magnet.  There were, so I understand, over 2500 people at that funeral.  The main auditorium was jam packed and the over flow went into several other rooms via video screens.  I tried to liven up the audience a little bit before I actually began and said I wasn't expecting a Woodstock type presentation that day.  There was hardly a chuckle and that is when I realized most of the people out in that audience weren't even old enough to know what Woodstock was!!  Anyway that is how that song was birthed.  Kind of an interesting story about the song you like enough to keep going back to it!!  Thank you so much Shirley.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-Zte6SRv7M

Hi again,

Glad to see my posts may have gotten a few responses! Thanks for the encouragement. Loved the response by Judy, Donna, and Kathy Culpepper. Really enjoyed Deborah's shaving cream post and always Rick's songs and post. We grieve at those losses and even at the disrespect us boomers seem to be getting lately.   Did you hear they discovered some pool deep in a cave in New Mexico that has bacteria that has never ever before come into contact with human beings? Clearly 2020 would be THE year to bring those 'bad boys' out!!! Are you sick of this as I am? Even the Flat Earth Society says this virus is about to push them 'over the edge!!!   Cases are rising fast here in Alabama, same as Texas. We were going to live dangerously and eat outside on the terrace of a lovely private club on the mountain overlooking Birmingham. it is called "The Club", built in 1950 and its multi colored light up rising dance floor served as the inspiration for John Travolta's Saturday Night Fever. Anyway, today we were going to go and get an email that they had to close for a day to sanitize due to a staff member testing positive for Covid. Whoa! That stopped us in our tracks. We decided only take out that we can reheat at home before we eat, is worth the risk.  Hey, has Covid forced you to wear glasses AND a mask at the same time? If so, I heard you may be entitled to 'Condensation" !!blush Fondly, Kathy

Louis Mabry #958 959-- your picture has a fireplace screen that I also have. Mine came from my son's grandmother. I dont know when or where she got it. Just wondering if you know anything about yours. I've never seen another one and when I checked out the message because of another message I was blown away. I think it's very old. I don't know how to attach a picture.
Any info would help.
