As some of you may know

Gary Rotola class of 69 has been in the Hospital having heart surgery and ran into some problems. They have opereated on him but he has not been recovering. He was moved to a rehab. He is unable to get up to walk or go to the bathroom so that was not working out.  He then went into a nursing home but was transferred to hopsital a few days ago. Gary is in Tomball Hospital and has coded. They put him into a medicated coma and on a respirator. They have now taken him off the respirator but he is not responding or waking up. Please keep Gary and his family in your prayers.  We would like to spread the word that tomorrow night (Wednesday 1/12/22 at 8 PM if you would please stop and raise Gary up to ask God for healing. To help his body strengthen as the doctor try and get him well)

Thanks and the family thanks you as well. will keep you posted

Judy

I will lift Gary Rotola up in prayers of healing. I know they work. My brother John who many of you prayed for is doing well one year after the doctors said that there was no hope. There is always hope in Jesus Christ.

Sadly, our 1965 classmate and friend to many, Michael Ray Simmons passed away on January 3, 2022 at the age of 74.

Mike was born on July 7, 1947 and also attended Durkee Elementary, Fonville Jr High and the University of Houston. At Sam he was in the German Club, Rodeo Club, and on the Track Team.

He was a retired Houston Firefighter, like his father Bill Simmons and served for 22 years, retiring as a District Chief. This notice from the Houston Firefighters group was shared with me by Linda Boze.

Rest In Peace, friend and Tiger. I'm grateful that we reminisced at a reunion about our days at Durkee and living down the street from each other on Werner St.  And, Arthur (my husband) mentioned how you and he enjoyed visiting at UH between classes those long years ago.

Condolences and prayers for Mike's family and friends.

THIS UPDATE WAS JUST GIVEN TO ME: Gary opening his eyes but he still looks 'out of it'. It seems like he's trying to open his eyes more and moving his foot a little. Still not following commands for movement yet. The doctors just came around. They're gonna wait and see what happens the next 24hours before running anymore CAT scans or an MRI. He still has a lot going on but they don't see anything to be concerned with as of now. Keep sending prayers his way. Thanks ~ And remember tonight at 8PM let all lift Gary Rotola up in Prayer for healing.

Judy

GARY ROTOLA UPDATE: They are in here now doing an EEG. Then neurology has to review it. His ammonia is still high, which means his liver is showering at filtering, it should be around 35-45. That affects brain function and could be one of the reasons why he hasn’t woken up yet. (This from Gary's Niece) They have said Gary's Liver is in bad shape. One of the reasons it has been slow on filtering all the meds out of his system. Thanks for all that Prayed last night. Keep them coming Please. Thanks!!

LATEST UPDATE FOR GARY ROTOLA: EEG is done, they scheduled an MRI for today. I spoke with Dr. Santamaria, the neurologist. He said after he evaluated him and looked at EEG results he knows the brain stem function is good, but the cortex has some damage (the part that makes up our personality). The MRI will show how much damage there is the the cortex.

Please continue to Pray for Gary and his recovery

Judy

We just met with hospice. They’re getting him unhooked now I’ll text when I have more details He will be at the hospital for now. If it takes longer than 5 days for him to pass we will transfer him back to heights if Tomball Prayers for the Family and all of you

Reporting the passing of 1968 classmate, Marilyn "Bootsie" Ramsden Johnson in August of 2021. She died of natural causes and was found alone in her home. Many very nice tributes were left on facebk for her.  Also, Gary Rotolo will be missed. Rest in Peace, friends.

Kathy Culpepper (Gunderson) (1968)

Kathy Newton I am so sad to hear if Bootsie's passing. I grew up with her in every class of elementary and others at Fonville and Sam Houston. She once did one of the nicest things for a girl at Fonville. This girl, whose name I don't remember, was not able to afford a very nice wardrobe so she was constantly being picked on by some classmates. Bootsie and her Mom took this girl for a makeover and new wardrobe. All the classmates showed her new respect because of the friendship shown to her by Bootsie. I always loved that about the heart she showed to someone in need. Rest in peace my friend. The world lost a good soul. You will be missed.

RIP Gary. I met Gary when I was 10 years old and we played PeeWee Baseball together on The Tigers. Gary was a fun guy to be around.

Obituary for Gary Ray Rotola

Funeral services for Gary Rotola, 71 of Cypress, will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. Burial, with military honors provided by the Lexington American Legion Post 6, will follow at the Burns Cemetery near Blue. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. All are invited to join in this celebration of Gary’s life.

It is with extreme sadness that we announce Gary Ray Rotola passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2022 in Tomball, TX. He was a big character who loved to tease and make others laugh. He will be deeply missed by many. He was passionate about hunting and fishing and was especially proud of his famous 10-foot alligator catch. He was also the Founder & President of our family’s “I Ate a Bug Club” with the most recruits.

Gary was born in Houston, Texas on January 11, 1951 to Anthony and Janey (Heins) Rotola. He attended Sam Houston High School and went on to play football at Texas Tech. Gary joined the Marine Corps where he served in the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge, he worked many years as a Communications Technician for Southerwestern Bell/ATT. On April 14, 2000, he married Shirley Stifflemire.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Rotola and Janey (Heins) Williamson, and wife, Shirley Rotola.

Gary is survived by his three sisters, Donna Steen of Tomball, Brenda & Eric Skaggs of Tomball, and Laurie Spano of The Woodlands; one brother, Boyd Williamson Jr. of Conroe, and many loved ones and friends.

Memorials may be made in his honor to Gary’s favorite cause, The Trump Reelection Fund, or the Republican Party.
