I still have my sketchbook that Miss Bibee had us do our "thumbnail" sketches in for each class project. She would dictate instructions as we wrote them down in the sketchbook, pages numbered, and since I wrote fast she would look over my shoulder and pick up where she left off. We did sketches and shading for the project and picked our colors for paintings. I remember I lost my sketchbook and it was due the following week. I bought another one, asked a classmate what was in it page by page, and did the whole thing over again. I turned it in and someone told Miss Bibee what I had done. She gave me an extra credit A+ for doing the whole semester's work plans TWICE!
Miss Bibee started teaching at Sam the day it opened its doors in September 1955 - she looked the same with those curled bangs and bright eyes and broad smile by the time she retired in the 80s! When I became an Art teacher myself, I went to her and asked for advice on classroom management (she kept us all in line) and project ideas. Many of my own class projects were the same ones she taught us. Rodeo Art was always my favorite.I wish we could find her. I know she was born in Tennessee and moved to Texas to teach. She is around 90 or 91. Full name is Gloria Joyce Bibee. Any detectives out there?
