The Origin of the Old School Reunion
Myself and other classmates were attending the homegoing services for my cousin Kenneth(Kenny) Ruffin when someone expressed ( I can't rember who) that it seemed if we only reunited on sad occasions. It was then suggested that we have a reunions so that we could come together on a happy occasion!! My response was sounds like a good idea let's do it as was always my response when someone suggested the idea. Knowing all the time I was just going to forget about it until the idea came up again. Well, Barbara called me and said ,"are you ready to start planning for the reunion", I responded, "ok we'll do it in the future." She was like no, I mean now , are you in or not? So, I responded yes I'm in. She then proceeded to tell me I have already set up the website for the reunion page( Jaxbeach144.com). I came to this page and was like wow she is really serious about this and recalled from the homegoing service that Willard had mentioned he would be interested and we called him up and he readily agreed to be a part of the team. This motivated me to pull out the yearbook and I started filling in the names for the student profiles ,the teacher profiles, and called on Barbara and Willard to help me recall some of the names of people who were not in the yearbook. I completed most of the names the very first night and when we all three saw the results it really motivated us to start planning for Old School Reunion 1. When we called on Bishop Golden for assistance he said that he wanted to make it a community event and he volunteered himself and his congregation to help with food for the picnic to make this happen , for which we were so apprectiative!! The theme was "Let's Make this Happen" and with teamwork, " We Made It Happen" then came Old School Reunions 2 and 3 and now it's on to Old School Reunion 4. I don't know about you guys but I don't want to always be saying goodbye to my classmates and friends at a funeral but I want to get together with all our classmates, socialize, have a good time and bond with them while they are here, so when we have to say goodbye they knew how much they meant to me! Remember guys tomorrow is not always promised to us, so we have to live our best life now! We Welcome all classes, friends, and it doesn't matter if you are black, white, purple, or whatever race we welcome you with open arms!!! I love you all and God Willing I hope to see you all on the Red Carpret at Old School Reunion IV !!
Sincerely,
Sylvia Jones Martin
