Happy New Years to all of you. I pray that everyone had a great holiday season. I pray that the coming year will over flow with blessings. I pray healing will rest at your house. I pray that sorrow will be a very temporary guest. If you agree say amen. Love until we see each other.

I havent said anything about Cynthia Turners going home.  I'm still speechless at the loss.  Cynthia was my friend.  We would call each other just to "check on you."  Cynthia was a big advocate of the reunion,  she worked as hard as anyone on the committee.  Always asking, what do you need me to do?  The attendence at her funeral tells you what kind of person she was.  A lot of times at funerals you have to think up things or exaggerate things to say.  Not with her.  Cynthia was a funnny person, a serious person, a caring person.  I would call her " a real person."   I'm gonna remember all the sadness shown by family and friends,  but i'm also going to remember her at the class reunions having the time of her life.

Hello Classmates. We are in the process of getting things started for Reunion 2017. We would like to know three things. 1. First of all, We would like to know if anyone would like to be part of the Reunion Committee as Chairs or the General Reunion Committee? If you are interested, please forward your information to Barbara, Sylvia or Willard. Also, please include what area you would specifically like to work in. 2. We would like to know if there is anything that you would like to see initiated or do at the reunion? Let us know of anything you think would improve or make the reunion better. This is also a good time to let us know of any individuals or groups that should be acknowledged or honored. Have an idea for our reunion theme? Let's hear it. Now, in the planning stages of the reunion, is the time to make your ideas and wishes known. PLEASE don't think that your idea is silly or too small. We want to hear from you. This is your reunion. 3. Speaking of YOU. The reunion is nothing without you, so we would like to know, God willing, if you plan to attend? Let's find and notify those classmates that were not informed of the first two reunions. Let us know by texting Barbara, Sylvia or Willard, email, reunion site or our facebook site. It's time, let's do this. *The Reunion will be October 2017.

We would like to thank those of you that entered a suggestion for class theme.  After listening to other classmates suggestions and long consideration of the six suggestions,  we decided to revisit the 70's.  Although we used the 70's before and its a common theme, this era is more relevant to the time period that played the most significant part of our growth.  The program will be totally different.  We also took into consideration minimizing the cost for all to participate.  For all who dressed for the occasion last  time and those who didn't, we challenge you to have some fun and revisit the 70's

We were blessed with a great turnout for the two previous reunions.  For a greater reunion we are targeting three groups, the group that was there the first time, the group that was there the second time and those who have never attended.  This is why we need  everyone that knows a classmate to reach out, contact them and let them know about the reunion.

We have two information sites.  Stay tuned and feel free to add information, thoughts or ideas. As a reminder, the dates are October 13th, 14th and 15th.  The cost for the 3 day fun filled event is $60 per person.  The site to register and get those payments in will be available May 1st.  Let's have some fun..while we can.

More information to come..

Always excited to see those friends and faces that I haven't seen for years, and some I have'nt seen since high school.  And sadly, some I won't get to see again. Its not about reliving the past, but just for a moment, to revisit it.  A time when spirits were young and free and responsibilities were ahead of us.  We never know what someones life has been like or financial situation is.  But know that each and every one of us has been through or are currently going through something.  Know that we all serve a powerful God that makes all things possible.  And I ask God to let us see each other at the reunion, and not at a funeral.

*In honor of my friend and classmate, Kenneth Ruffin.

The Origin of the Old School Reunion

Myself and other classmates were attending the homegoing services for my cousin Kenneth(Kenny) Ruffin when someone expressed ( I can't rember who) that it seemed if we only reunited on sad occasions.  It was then suggested that we have a reunions so that we could come together on a happy occasion!! My response was sounds like a good idea let's do it as was always my response when someone suggested the idea. Knowing all the time I was just going to forget about it until the idea came up again.  Well, Barbara called me and said ,"are you ready to start planning for the reunion", I responded, "ok we'll do it in the future."  She was like no, I mean now , are you in or not? So, I responded yes I'm in. She then proceeded to tell me I have already set up the website for the  reunion page( Jaxbeach144.com). I came to this page and was like wow she is really serious about this and recalled from the homegoing service that Willard had mentioned he would be interested and we called him up and he readily agreed to be a part of the team. This motivated me to pull out the yearbook and I started filling in the names for the student profiles ,the teacher profiles, and called on Barbara and Willard to help me recall some of the names of people who were not in the yearbook. I completed most of the names the very first night and when we all three saw the results it really motivated us to start planning for Old School Reunion 1.  When we called on Bishop Golden for assistance he said that he wanted to make it a community event and he volunteered himself and his congregation to help with food for the picnic to make this happen , for which we were so apprectiative!! The theme was "Let's Make this Happen" and with teamwork, " We Made It Happen"  then came Old School Reunions 2 and 3 and now it's on to Old School Reunion 4. I don't know about you guys but I don't want to always be saying goodbye to my classmates and friends at a funeral but I want to get together with all our classmates, socialize,  have a good time and bond with them while they are here, so when we have to say goodbye they knew how much they meant to me! Remember guys tomorrow is not always promised to us, so we have to live our best life now!  We Welcome all classes, friends, and it doesn't matter if you are black, white, purple, or whatever race we welcome you with open arms!!!  I love you all and God Willing I hope to see you all on the Red Carpret at  Old School Reunion IV  !!

Sincerely,

Sylvia Jones Martin
