Hey James and Jimmy there is no catching the Class of 73! We will definitely win hands down! Ok Rex what's up with the Class of 75? Have the class of 73 made you all sucede so early?(smile). Make some noise!

Does anybody know if there has ever been a Black Miss Fletcher? I know there had not been one when I left in 1995?

WHO WERE YOUR FAVORITE TEACHER(S) AT 144 AND FLETCHER? AT 144 MY FAVORITE WAS COACH HOWARD. HE WAS A FIRM DICIPLINED MAN AND HE WAS ALWAYS TALKING TO US ABOUT BEING YOUNG MEN. HE USED HIS PADDLE TO GET HIS POINT ACROSS. MY FAVORITE FEMALE WAS MS. THORPE, ANKLE BRACLET AND THAT SEXY HAIR ON HER LEGS. SO WHAT IF IT WAS SECOND GRADE ! MY FAVORITE AT FLETCHER WAS COACH POPPELL. THE WORLD WE GOT TO SEE OUTSIDE OF THE BEACHES WERE THE TRACK MEETS HE WOULD TAKE US TO IN OTHER CITIES. HE WOULD PICK A LOT OF US UP AT HOME AND DROP US OFF BACK AT HOME SAFELY. I WOULD LIKE TO FEEL THAT THE CONCERN OF BOTH OF THESE MEN PAID OFF AND MADE GREAT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE LIVES OF A LOT OF US.

My favorite teachers:

Jax Beach 144
Mrs. Thorpe because she was so nice and understood my sensitive side. I mean I really cried at the drop of a hat back then. Too be honest I am still quite emotional at times.(smile). Little did I know she was a good friend of my uncle, Willie Sanford and that was why she probably gave me so much extra attention.

Fletcher Jr High
Mrs. Mabel Bass was my favorite teacher. I was always so in awe of her and had the greatest admiration for her.
I saw her as a role model and excellent teacher. She carried herself with so much grace and dignity and you could see how much she enjoyed teaching math. It was her enthusiasm for the subject that made us want to learn. In fact that is where my love for math began and from that point on I aspired to be a math teacher just like Ms. Bass. I wanted to be a role model and inspiration and make a difference in the life of my students as Mrs. Bass did for me.I did become a Math Teacher and have been at it for 32 years now. In fact one of my students said to me this year ,why did you want to become a teacher and be honest with me. I told her because of a great math teacher that I had in the 7th grade.

Fletcher Sr. High
I had several teachers that I admired so I can't pick just one as a favorite.

Yo just came back off vacation celebrating both of my daugthers birthdays a week a part. Who's hiring out here these girls just about broke me. (smile). What's all the fuss about, yaw all know it's a wrap with CO75 dusting the scoreboard with breathtaking attendees.

I just review the attendance, CO73 are on our heels, but I must say we can still taste a victory.

For all of the FL CO75 mates let's move and shake to wake, inform or whatever it takes to say "Have you sign on the JB 144 reunion site yet".

WELL I AM BACK IN STRIDE AGAIN. I JUST GOT BACK FROM MY HUSBAND FAMILY REUNION. IT WAS MORE LIKE MY OWN FAMILY REUNION BECAUSE MY BROTHER RICKY CAME FROM VIRGINIA ALONE WITH MY COUSIN TED SIMON, AND ALL OF MY GRANDKIDS FROM MARYLAND, MY OLDEST DAUGHTER AND HER FRIEND ALONE WITH MY SON. THEY ARE THE REAL REASON I WENT, IT IS A BEAUTIFUL CITY TO VISIT, BUT TO LIVE THERE, I DON'T THINK SO. ANY WAY THE WEATHER WAS VERY COOL IN THE MORNINGS AND AT NIGHT AND HOT AS THE DICKENS DURING THE DAY FRON 12 TO 4 PM. I REALLY WANTED TO STAY HOME AND GO TO THE MUSEUM.THANKS WILLARD FOR THE INFORMATION. IWENT TO THE SITE AND BOY DID I HAVE TEARS IN MY EYES THIS MORNING. THE WHARTONS ARE TRULY A BLESSED FAMILY. IF I COULD HAVE SEEN WHAT I SEE IN THEM NOW I WOULD HAVE GAVE THEM MY LUNCH MONEY TO TEACH ME HOW TO DRAW SOMETHING OTHER THAN STICK PEOPLE.THEIR BLOODLINE IS DEEPER THAN WHAT THEY REALIZE, IT IS IN THEIR BLOOD! AND I AM GLAD THAT THEY ARE THE CHOSEN GENERATIONS TO LET IT REALLY MANIFEST IN THEIR LIVES AS WELL AS THEIR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDRENS. IT WILL ONLY GET BETTER FOR THEM. NOW THEIR FAMILY IS A BLESSED FAMILY I KNOW WE ALL HAVE HEARD OF GENERATIONAL CURSES THAT HAD TO BE BROKEN . THE WHARTONS FAMILY ARE A VERY ANOINTED FAMILY WHO WILL ALWAYS BE BLESSED.SOMEONE SPOKE BLESSINGS ON THEM A VERY LONG TIME AGO THROUGH PRAYERS. NOW WE CAN SEE HOW GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS FROM GENERATIONS TO GENERATION.I DO PLAN TO GO VIEW THERE WORK BEFORE IT LEAVES I JUST HAVE TO FIND HOW TO GET AN APPOINTMENT. SO IF THERE'S ANYONE OUT THERE WHO KNOW THE INFORMATION PLEASE LET ME KNOW SOON.

My favorite teacher at Jax beach was Mr.Mack Freeman. He was a strong smart Black man who I think really wanted to teach us something and I think that he really wanted us to learn as much as possible. I remember when he rented a school bus and took us to his wedding. one of the last things he told us as we were getting ready to leave Jax Beach and go to Fletcher was "please do not go to Fletcher and embarrass me because I know that I taught you all well and I know that you all are smart". At Fletcher it was Mr.Lee, he was a good teacher and President of the NAACP. We were in a new world at Fletcher and Mr. Lee and the other Black teachers were examples of the fact that we too could be successful in the world of intergration, a world that I think Mr. Freeman and the other GREAT TEACHERS at jax beach prepared us well for.

Jimmy Gamble(1971 ) (1971)

I saw Ms.Folsom's picture on the teacher profile page, we had some good times in her Modern Family living class. Her grandson is married to my daughter Michelle (small world) Ms. Folsom passed about ten years ago.

07/10/09 08:41 PM #403

Sylvia Jones (Martin) (1973)

Welcome back to the fold Donnie. Someone told me that they thought Ms. Morrow was deceased but they were not sure. Jimmy, it is a small world indeed, sorry to hear about Ms. Folsom's death. I think that a lot of our former teachers are not here with us any longer, However, they will never be forgotten and I know we all appreciate each and every one of them that touched all our lives at some point or another. May they rest in peace. Ms. Leola Dudley Moore( guidance counsler at
fletcher) attended Stanton with my cousin Patty and she told her that we were looking for her and about the sight.
