Hey classmates,
Sylvia, said she is quite, because she is getting ready. Thats why she changed the song. We hope you are getting ready too. I told her I would let everyone know that she will be back soon.

NO MATTER WHO CLASS HAS THE MOST SIGNED IN THE IMPORTANT THING IS WHAT A WONDERFUL THING HAS HAPPENED. WE HAVE REUNITED WITH FOLKS WE HAVEN'T HEARD OR SEEN IN OVER 20-30 YEARS. I MYSELF AM GRATEFUL FOR THIS BLESSING. THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE SIGNED IN AND MADE THIS A SUCCESS WE ARE ALL WINNERS.

Back in the day I don't think that anyone from the class of 71 could really dance, has anyone from 71 learned any steps so that they can lead this party if not don't worry because 71 is going to turn it out anyway so get ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

09/01/09 04:45 PM #538

Willard Dudley(1971 ) (1971)

Jimmy, you 're right. I went to one of those Fred Astaire dance places and they told me to take my money and don't come back. You know it's bad when you can't even slow dance. Atleast sylvia and Sandras's class can win something !

09/02/09 07:26 AM #539

Sandra Davis (Dabney) (1973)

WILLARD , IT'S STILL NOT TO LATE TO GIVE SYLVIA AND MYSELF YOUR MONEY.WE WILL BE VERY GLAD TO GIVE YOU AND ANYONE ELSE DANCING LESSONS. THEY'RE EASY DANCES LIKE THE STINKIE LEG.MAYBE THAT MIGHT NOT BE A GOOD IDEAL FOR THE CLASS OF 72 WE DON'T HAVE TIME TO MAKE ENOUGH SPLINTS FOR THEIR LEGS. MAYBE SOMETHING SIMPLE LIKE THE JERK, NO THAT WON'T DO EITHER FORGOT ABOUT THEIR BACKS BEING THROWN OUT OF WACK. MAYBE WE WILL JUST LET THEM SIT AND WATCH.

As we grow closer to Reunion Day I think that it is time for us to start practicing good Reunion ETIQUETTE. I will start it off and if everyone will post just one we should make it through with everyone leaving happy.Post your Etiquette in terms of what to say and what not to say.

Don't Say ----You Sure Have Gotten Fat

Do Say ------- Looks Like Life Has Really Been Good To you

Abigail Moss (Audate) (1971)

Jimmy, Willard the dance thing is no problem. Just have your kids teach you how to do the electric slide before the reunion. It's easy anyone can do it.

Class of 71, listen up. Brush up on the slide. We can do it and look cool and elegant too.

Thomas,

You have a good memory too. I can't believe you still remember Reba and I calling you Thomasina. We tried to befriend you but you would look at us with that mean snarl...as if to say, I'm too mean to be a friend. So I said, we'll just call him Thomasina then he won't be so tough. It worked. (lol)
I'm looking forward to seeing you and your wife as well.

Thomas,
I was thinking about a female white teacher who had said something about the "Jones's" or something in class. I was thinking she was picking on me or saying something racial that I didn't understand. I remember me and you talking about this also. I am getting old bro.

I do remember you taking Buster out, and I was very proud of it. You too was one of the guys I looked up too and admired, both on the football field and off.

Race did play an important part in all our lives during this time and even now. This is why our election of this year's President should keep us moving forward.

I came to Fletcher to get away from it on the East Side of Jax. The teachers and community on the beaches was far more advance in race relationship than my experiences on the East Side.

I was talking to Sylvia about Teacher Willie Bussey, how he was a legend when I grew up. One of the greatest Running Backs to ever play the game. (Matthew Gilbert).. Because of race at that time, he is just another name.

Willard, jimmy (Mincy), Rod and you should have been D-I prospects in 1971. But race play a big part in this not happening. But all you guys strived and became productive in life.

Thomas I look forward to seeing you and your family.

I AM GLAD TO KNOW THAT SOME OF US STILL REMEMBER WHEN. WE HAVE CAME SUCH A VERY LONG WAY IN OUR LIVES, AND IT ONLY BY THE GRACE OF GOD THAT WE ARE ALIVE TO REEP THE BENEFITS OF THE PAST. WE HAVE A LOT TO BE GRATEFUL FOR! ONE THE GREATEST MOMENT I HAVE EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE WAS BEING ABLE TO BE AMONG THE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE AT THE INAUGATION. THAT REALLY MADE ME REALIZE JUST HOW FAR WE HAVE COME.BUT THE MOST BLESSED PART OF IT ALL WAS TO SEE PEOPLE OF OTHR RACES THERE ALSO . PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD JOING IN TO SAY WE ARE NOT OUR PAST SHOWING LOVE TO EACH OTHER. WE KHAVE TO KNOW WE HAVE CAME A LONG WAY BECAUSE WE(BLACKS) WERE NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO PUT OUR PRESIDENT IN THE BLACK HOUSE!THIS HAS BEEN A HISTORY MAKING YEAR FOR ALL OF US.THIS CLASS REUNION START OFF THE YEARS OF INTERGRATION. WE ALL WERE THE FIRST BLACKS TO BE ABLE TO WALK INTO WHITE SCHOOLS.THANK GOD FOR THE TEACHERS WE HAD BEFORE WE GOT TO FLETHER!THEY PREPARED ALL OF US FOR SOME VERY ROUGH ROADS IN LIFE.RIDING THROUGH JACKSONVILLE BEACH MONDAY SEEING THE CHANGE IN DIFFERENT THING MADE ME LOOK BACK TO WHEN IT WAS ONLY A BLACK COMMUNITY.THE SAME AS BLACK PINE WE ARE JUST LIKE THE JEFFERSONS GEORGE AND LOUISE, WE MOVED ON UP TO THE EAST SIDE AND GOT OUR PIECE OF THE PIE. NOW LETS JUST WAIT FOR OUR WHOLE WATERMELON TO BE PICKED. IT'S COMING BE PATIENCE

The Good Things About Those First Days Of Intergration Are That We Believed In Ourselves, We Stuck Together And We Supported Each Other.

JIMMIE IT ALSO LET US REALLY REALIZE WHAT DR. MARTIN LUTHER KINGS DREAM WAS ALL ABOUT.WE MIGHT LOOK AT SOME OF OUR SITUATIONS AND THINK WE HAD IT BAD.BUT WE WERE REALLY HAVE BEEN BLESSED ALL OUR LIVES.I SIT AND DO A LOT OF DEEP THINKING EVERYDAY.THIS IS JUST SOME OF THE THOUGHTS THAT MAKE ME REALIZE I REALLY NEED A JOB!.DR. KING HAD BEEN TO A PLACE IN THE SPIRIT TO SEE THE THINGS GOD HAD PREPARED FOR US. THE PROMISE LAND WAS AFRICA. OUR PROMISE OF OVERCOMMING WAS COMING FROM THAT PROMISE LAND. WE DIDN'T UNDERSTAND IT AT THE TIME.NOW IF THEY HAD KNOWN WHAT THEY WERE DOING WHEN THEY BROUGHT OUR ANCESTORS OVER HERE THEY WOULD HAVE LEFT THEM WHERE THEY WERE. YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THE PAIN AND SUFFERING OUR ANCESTORS ENDURED UNTIL YOU READ IT OR VISIT A MUSEUM.THE ONE WE WENT TO IN BALTIMORE HAD US CRYING AND MAD. THERE'S A SIGN AT THE EXIT THAT TELLS YOU NOT TO BE ANGRY BECAUSE OF WHERE WE ARE TODAY.BELIEVE ME I WAS REAL MAD!

Hi Classmates,
I am busy scanning a new round of pictures to put on the website and for the DVD. I am trying to make sure we have pictures of as many people as possible. Also, the reunion payments have been coming in. This along with being back at work has really been keeping me busy. I'm so excited about this reunion and the communication and memories on the site. I will be back in the mix shortly. Love You All

I talked to Ms. Spicer and Ms. Leola Dudley Moore and they said that they would be coming.

Last Call: If anyone know how we can contact any of our teachers please put the information on the forum. Invitations to the teachers will be going out on Monday.

PS. Now, I can call Diane Martin and let her know that 74 yearbook is in my possession. It was lost for 30 days and I prayed real hard for it to surface.(smile).

We were born during Jim Crow and we are the generation that ushered in the Civil Rights Movement. Our parents and teachers had hope and faith so they prepared us for what was to come. My Daddy would always tell my sister Alise and I, that things were going to change one day, that we could be whatever we wanted to be; so we had to start now (then).
I often wonder if parents now instill that same determination and sense of "I am somebody" in their children today. Forgive my pessimism, but I don't think so. So much is taken for granted today. The pursuit and love of money and material gain seems to be the motivating factor for too many of our people. For us it was different, most of us came from very humble beginnings. Yet, most of us had parents who taught us that it was important to be a "good person", someone who cared for and "helped others along the way". Please teach your children and grandchildren those things you learned from your Mama, Daddy, Grandma, Grandpa and all those wise adults you met along the way...they loved us.

The word "nigger" is also used so loosely by the younger generation of today. Each time I hear a kid say it, I give him a history of how those before him have fought at the sound of it. They just don't seem to get it or don't understand the history of why.

And Thomas I did feel this LOVE, from the top to the bottom at Fletcher.
Coach Kitchen (Asst. Principle) at one time told me, Mr. Sidney Friend (Principle) was ahead of his time. I didn't understand this then as much as I do now. He went out of his way to seek advice when he made decisions (steering committee) during his time. I was on this committee along with a diverse group of us (blacks). We were indeed blessed during those times, when you consider what others were facing at their schools.
I too cherish those times and all the friends I left behind.

I HAVE THIS IDEA ABOUT HAVING TWO BUS PICK-UPS ON THE BEACH FOR THE SOCIAL SATURDAY NIGHT IN JACKSONVILLE OFF OF BAYMEADOWS ROAD. THE PICK UP WOULD BE AROUND 7:00. ONE AT THE CENTER ON JACKSONVILLE BEACH AND ONE, MAYBE AT THE CHURCH IN ATLANTIC BEACH. I WAS GOING TO TRY TO GET ONE OR TWO BUSES, AT A SMALL FEE $7 OR $10 DOLLARS ROUND TRIP. THE BUS WOULD PICK YOU UP, TAKE YOU TO THE SOCIAL AND BRING YOU BACK TO THE BEACHES AT MIDNIGHT. THIS WOULD KEEP PEOPLE FROM HAVING TO FIND TRANSPORTATION, FIND WHERE THE SOCIAL IS AND PREVENT ANY DRINKING AND DRIVING. BEFORE I LOOK INTO IT I NEED SOME FEEDBACK TO SEE IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED OR THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA. ALSO, IF ANYONE KNOW OF ANY BUS DRIVERS PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH ME. THANKS

Good idea Willard , looks like you all are covering all bases.

Sylvia Jones (Martin) (1973)

We've checked out the T-Shirt survey and the results are:
45% maroon and 55% purple. However, after doing some thinking, we thought about the fact that some people left us and went elsewhere after Jax Bch 144 and others did not join us until we reached Fletcher. So, we checked and found out we could order the T-Shirts in 2 different colors. So, we need feedback from you classmates and what you think about this idea. We need your response by the end of the week so that we can place the order.

Does anyone know where Ms. Roundtree is?

Barbara Parker (Hancock) (1973)

I agree with Roxanne, that no matter what class has the most sign ins. This reunion is something that we all need to see people that we have not seen in a very long time.To come together for an enjoyable event, instead of always at some loved one's Home Going.I'm very grateful to be apart of this great and very Blessed Reunion.I want to thank everyone on the committee for putting this great event together.Willard the bus idea is another one of your great ideas(smile).I want to thank my forever friends!!! for helping me to get through my melt down. You guys no who you are much love to you. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Reunion.

Yes, Barbara and Roxanne this event will be a big celebration and one we will never forget! I am so excited, can't wait to see everybody.

Hey Guys just thinking of athletes that put the beaches on the map(smile). Do you all remember when Joey Ballard was boxing on TV on the same bill as Muhammad Ali? I can recall how everyone was talking about tuning into the fight on National TV. I can't remember the outcome though. We also had Tom Sullivan, Noah Jackson,
Raheem Adullah, Siatrix Fason to enter the National Football League. Does anyone remember anyone else who help put the beaches on the map for any reason? If so, lets hear about it.

To Abigail, Thomas, and Sandra thanks for the history lesson and reminding us of how far we have come. We all are truly blessed.

Ok Donnie and Rex we need to hear from you. You were on this message forum from the beginning and we want to continue to hear from you. You have made us laugh, cry, remember the good old days and just lifted our spirits. Keep it coming!

Now back to the pictures for me. I have so many photos to post and my ADHD set in and I was trying to escape from my task(smile).
