Well Hello again my friends! Been away but I have kept up on everyone. I read the message forum about every other day. Thought about the days when we were young and life was good and simple. Played marbles, jump rope, hide and seek, made basketball hoop with an old bicycle rim, play baseball with a broom stick and any kind of ball we could throw, dodge ball, made toys out of a tire and a stick, and enjoyed every minute of it. At Christmas if we got one new toy/bike we thought heaven had shine down on us. Visit each others home to make sure they were okay, and made a neighborhood report to let everyone know if they were needed to make a visit or cook an extra pot. Argued and fight at 8:00am, ate dinner together at 6:oopm. Now we just say it will be alright, I will pray for them. That's good but have you checked to see if your prayers came through? Did you check by to see if a meal, clothes, hug, smile, words of comfort would make the prayer you prayed come true. BY YOUR WORKS! To God be the glory for the good things he has done.

Man I can't wait to see some of you! I want to see if anybody has lost more hair than I have. About the dancing, well I still have a step or two. Mr. Howard's square dance lessons really have came in handy. I stil know how to do a mean promenade!

Sandra I call Brenda and she's really stubborn, but we need to call some of her other classmates and maybe that will encourage her to sign in.

My brother Desi Smith insist that Frankie Beverly and Maze performed at the Center in Jacksonville Beach. I told him I can't remember any such thing. Does anybody remember such a performance?

Larry,
I was wrong again. Racism is alive and well. That's so sad.

prior to the election of President Obama, the white guys i worked with would say that they did'nt know who to vote for. I would tell them, sure you do. Think about your current situation. Are you satisfied with the state of the economy ? are you satisfied with the presidency for the last eight years? Are you satisfied with health care and unemployment ? If the answer is yes, then you know who to vote for . If the answer is no, obviously its Obama. For many the answer was no. The only reason they did't want to vote for Obama was because he was black. Fortunately for us, God makes the final decision and enough people were tired of the present administration to elect Obama. Change was made because of people being tired of the current administration, not because they were ready to accept blacks as equals or accepted. In their eyes we are sub-human. We rape, we steal and we are lazy. We must remember that what happens to us is up to us. We must propel ourselves upward. What they think of us does not determine who or what we are. We have proven that. Racism still exsist in many forms. We must acknowledge it and deal with it,in the correct manner. Do not be fooled into believing that it is not alive and well. And most of all, prevent you from moving forward. Lets not let the racism that exsist overshadow the progress that has been made. We must also accept the fact that we are our own worst enemy, not racism. I would also tell them that, for us, it does not matter who the president is, we have survived to this point inspite of who the president was and all that we have endured, so why would we not survive whoever wins the presidency now? So much has been gained, yet, racism has not changed. The only thing that has changed is its face. As for us, our resolve, our fight and determination has not changed, and we must deal with racism wherever its ugly head surfaces.....

Thomas Wharton (1971 ) (1971)

I agree wholeheartedly, however the racism I was refering to was Black on White, or rather interacial relationships. I've recieved some rather negative feedback reguarding this issue. I was surprised, however upon reflection, I shouldn't be. Afterall, this is the deep south.

racism is racism regardless of how it presents itself and is unacceptable. You must remember that racist, for whatever reason are the minority. nobody is going to like everybody and everything ! Let their racism be their problem, not yours !!!!

Junior Morgan (Officer/Head Of Patrol Boys )(d)

i also agree/i had a upclose personal and loving relationship with a man(my father) that broke many color barriers.daddy always told us that color does not make the person the person makes themselves.and this is quite true look at us for the most part we work side by side and in many cases head departments over persons in the pass you would not have dreamed of bossing. i just completed daddy's website .click on .i truly miss him. he was always a law enforcer at home and at work.his love for people of all kind was his motivator .he said before passing when he joined the force in his interview he was asked why should he be allowed to serve as an officer for the force and his reply was to make the beaches a safe place for all of its residents. girtha

Donald (Donnie ) Waters (1970) (1970)

Let not the face or color of racism be a factor to how we will progress. It is God's decision on what is next. He has choose to let Obama be our President and he will take care of him in the manner he feels. God will deal with racism, and we should deal with our walk to the calling that God has set before each of us. Racism is only a winner when we allow it to surface in our hearts. When they nailed Jesus to the cross racism played a big part of the decision to pursue his dealth. They meant it for bad but God meant it for good. So we will survive racism because God is the author of our faith and the finisher of our destination. Look at racism as stumbling block of those who pursue it's existence. I have walked in the shadow of its existance and felt the evil. I have seen some of the results of its actions, on both sides. Whites against blacks, black against whites, but the hurt I felt most was blacks against blacks. I overcame the fear and the hurt with my faith that God would make the difference that I couldn't. Yes we should be aware, but not affected, look upon it but not get involve in it. It's existence will only exist when you fall victim of being prejudice to any people rather black or white. We are all his people and we should walk in the faith that He will lead us through. Spread his word to all that are lost and be an example to all that look upon you. Be a Soldier, A captian for the faith and you shall be awarded. Oh! by no means I am not saying its ugly head will not rise up, and it will, but it will only mean something when you don't see it for what it really is....THEIR PROBLEM!
NOW ON WITH THE PARTY!!!

Willard, Jimmy, Sandra, Silvia and all who are interested I have been practicing, dancing and I plan to challenge anyone who thinks I can't dance.

Rex shaving your head and losing your hair is not the same people will be able to tell the difference. Guys don't go dye your hair, that want hide your age it will only hide your gray hair. If you want to show people that you're still young meet me on the dance floor.

I guess I will have to stay aboard more now, it seems no one from the class of 1970 has their computers on so I will hold up the banner!!!

What surprises me the most is racism continuously being thought of as a Deep South issue. Ask David Patterson, Gov. of NY, if racism is limited to the South.

Hey Classmates, I still have 2 more sets of pictures to post on the site. I probably will have them downloaded by Saturday and will put them on a separate link like th Photos( Yearbook) link.

Edith Cumberlander and her daughter are busy putting together a DVD for all classes that will run continuos during the Saturday Night Event. She is asking that all the couples from High School that are married make sure they have a photo of the 2 of them posing together from back in the day. Also, last call, if anyone does not see a picture of themselves by the last go round of pictures please post pictures on the siter. However, if you are not computer savy you can copy pictures at Walgreen( not exprensive at all) and mail them to me and I will scan and forward to Edith. Then I will return the copies to you during the reunion.
