God bless and keep you all. I do not claim that racism is limited to the deep south. However, it is my experience that slavery was limited to the south, most lynchings occured in the south, the K.K.K. originated in the south, segration was limited to the south, Jim Crow laws as well as seperate but equal standars all came from the deep south. And I might also mention that Emitt Till did not experience racial hatered until he left Chicago and visited the south that fateful summer. So go figure... But, be that as it may. I love the south. It is where I was born and bred, but does the south love me? I ask myself, is this the correct forum for this discussion? Shouldn't we be concentrating on lost loves and friendships reunited? Shouldn't we pray for those who hate and despise us and as Willard says let it be. Does the problem belong to the racist or is it a human condition we must all address? As for me, anyone who knows me, knows I never back down from a fight. Although I've mellowed over the years, I find it interesting that I was not comfronted with prejudice until I returned home, to the south, with a White wife. But, I digress. I'm done. Live and let die.

As the reunion gets closer, on behalf of Sylvia, Barbara and myself. I can't tell you how proud i am of all of you that have participated in the reunions message forum and this incredible journey. The Message forum has brought back so many memories. For some, good and bad. Many of us have reconnected and shared our lives. Over the past six months we have laughed together and cried together in sharing each others sorrow. Some of us have even humored us with bits of their sex lives. Others have been able to vent their feelings and just share with us how they feel, about everything. A sad note is that we have lost love ones during this journey. The bright side of that is that no one had to endure it alone. We all felt and endured your pain. Now we nervously wait these final days and anticipate the big weekend. As much as i look forward to it, nothng can be bigger that the connection that has already been made over the last six months. Our hope is that many, if not all of us continue to foster the relationships that have been re-established and continue the contacts that have been made. for some, it was discovered that that contact was just around the corner. I can't help but feel that a lot of us have grown a little from this experience, i know i have. My hope, is that every classmate know that they are not alone. There is someone on this site that has had the same trial and tribulations that you have. and there is someone on this site that you can call on in times of need or atleast, point you in the right direction.

I think i've bored you enough. I look forward to seeing all of you and be blessed....

IF THERE ARE ANY OF YOU THAT HAVE ENJOYED THE MESSAGE FORUM AS MUCH AS I HAVE, LET US HEAR ABOUT IT !!!!!

Time changes us all, but what does not change is the how and why we love. This is truly a great thing and I am looking forward to seeing all my old friends and the people I have missed the most in my ever changing life. Oh how I wish that all of us could meet and have fun and perhaps we will, some in other times and spaces that we can see. I know my brother Jack would have loved this gathering and perhaps he is like so many of our other angels that are watching us from a distance. Racsim is alive. It is not well because it troubles the human spirit, but it is what it is and we are in control of only that which we can control. But at our very best we are love, so take care and I will be glad to see all of you soon.

Veronica Elaine Bennett (Paterson) (1971)

Hi everyone,
I am just coming on board with the reunion. Jimmy and Gail called me the other night to let me know about it and I am very grateful to them for their care and concern that I not miss this event. I have been working everyday since then to get my page up to speed with all the other wonderful pages out there.
Sylvia told me about this forum and I am loving it.
I've read the last few posts concerning racism and my only comment is the word of God says that no weapon formed against you shall prosper (if you are HIS) so racism is the other person's problem.
I read on a few peoples pages their fond memory of the May Day celebration and it made so many happy memories flood into my mind that I wanted to share this little tidbit.'What I walked away from Jax Beach with, through all of the fun, the May Day pagents, and the classroom stories, was a sense that I could do anything if I got a good education. My mom said I could and the teachers there said I could. Thanks Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Thorpe, Mrs. Ingram, Mrs. Bass, Mrs. Carter, Mr. Williams and of course Principal Anderson.'
The Bible also says in Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.
NOBODY can defeat you with HIM on your side unless YOU allow them to.

Sylvia Jones (Martin) (1973)

I feel that the forum has allowed us all to vent and express our true feelings. It is so wonderful to see how much we care about each other and how comfortable it seems we feel about sharing our deepest emotions, fears, hurts ( new and old) on this forum with each other. I mean what might seem trivial or negative to some people might really be something that truly weighs heavily upon another. Yes, we had some great fun times in school but there were also some experiences that were very hurtful and painful. I feel this forum have allowed us to share memories that are good but also allowed us to rid ourselves of some of the things that weighed heavily on our hearts for years. I have corresponded with a lot of people who have shared with me how this forum has actually served as a place for healings of hurts from way back. I will say once again, I feel that God is in control of this reunion and I feel his presence is surrounding it and he chose the time that we should come together. As is always the case God Knows Best and I agree with Jamillah he knew we would be really missing our angels and needed to come together to help each other get through what has really been a rough times with so many of our loved ones leaving this earth. But hey we know that they are in a better place and Our Dear Angels will never be forgotten and we plan to do a memorial for them at the event.

I am so looking forward to seeing everybody and Barbara, Willard, and myself have already said we are going to need boxes of kleenex. Yes, we will probably all be sharing some tears, some for those who can't be here with us and tears of joy to fellowship with our beloved classmates, some of which we haven't seen in years.I have enjoyed tremendously the pictures of yourselves and your families that you all have shared with us. I'm not really happy about my weight and probably would have dreaded facing all of you being so much heavier but just hearing from all of you on the forum, made me realize that this reunion is not all about what you have or what you look like but being with those that really care about you. I thank God for the opportunity he has given me to be a part of making this event happen. I guess I could say, hey everything has been smooth sailing and we have never had any disagreements about the plans but that just wouldn't be true. However, we have always agreed to disagree and always end up coming together and reaching a happy medium.

To Barbara and Willard, it has really been great planning this reunion with you and we have formed a bond that will always continue. The thing I will remember most is the late night phone conferences where we would end up at the end of our business of planning the event, just laughing, talking, and remininsing about our school days. Guys some time we stayed on the phone until about 1 or 2am because we got so caught up in our discussions about our school days. Sometimes we never even got around to talking business at all because one remembrance would have going on and on. You know we have only had one face to face meeting and that was in August. Technology, has really come a long way imagine 3 different people in 3 different States ( Florida, Georgia, Alabama) not even being in the city of the event communicating and planning this event.

To my classmates thanks for wanting to be a part of this event and making the planning of this event. Thanks to all of you who played a part in making this event happen. I will be doing a shout out to all of you later but as you can see, I have already written a book. I love all of you and I wouldn't have traded our school days, growing up together in our communities together for anything. In closing as the song goes: I'm glad I got the chance to know you.

PS. Donnie and Rex, a celebrity will be in the house. The "Tom Joyner Old School Dance Contest" will be really to show you what I got.(smile) So make sure you practice a lot because there is going to be a meeting on the dance floor real soon.( smile).

Ok Thomas I second that Bring the Party On!

READING THE FORUM TODAY HAS BEEN GREAT, THINGS HAD BEEN A LITTLE QUIET BUT LOOKS LIKE YOU ALL PUT SOME MORE LOGS ON THE FIRE AND THE FIRE IS BURNING AGAIN. THE BEST THING ABOUT THE STORIES THAT PEOPLE ARE TELLING IS THAT THEY ARE TRUE AND THEY CAME ABOUT AS WE WERE JUST GOING THROUGH LIFE NEVER ONCE THINKING THAT THEY WOULD ONE DAY BE POSTED ON SOMETHING CALLED A "MESSAGE FORUM" FOR EVERYONE TO READ. ANOTHER GREAT THING ABOUT THIS SITE IS THAT SOME OF US HAVE NOT SEEN EACH OTHER IN DECADES BUT YOU CAN READ ONE MESSAGE ON THE FORUM OR GET ONE E-MAIL FROM SOMEONE AND IT SEEMS AS IF YOU HAVE BEEN AROUND THAT PERSON EVERYDAY, THE POWER OF OLD FRIENDSHIPS IS A WONDERFUL THING.THE WEEKEND OF OCTOBER 9-11 IS GOING TO BE A REAL PARTY BUT THANKS TO THIS SITE THE PARTY HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A LONG TIME. POWER TO THE GREAT CLASS OF 1971 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Abigail Moss (Audate) (1971)

Sylvia don't worry about it (the weight thing).
As I read this forum the song in the link below resonates through my mind: it describes how I feel and how I think many of you feel. The song is from the tv show CHEERS:
"Making your way in the world today Takes everything you've got
Taking a break from all your worries Sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you wanna go,
Where Everybody knows your naaame
And they're always glad you caaame,
You wanna be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same...
You wanna be where EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME.

We have talked about everything. mothers, fathers, kids, grand kids, isms (yea you read it right, isms), and just about everything else. Question for today is, WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR SPOUSE OR SIGNIFICANT OTHER ? IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE NOW, TELL US ABOUT THE ONE YOU HAD. Hmmmmmm?

For me the short answer is simple. She is dependable and dedicated. She is a God fearing and God loving woman that has put up with and tollerated me through thick and thin, and that says a lot. She is the reason i am where i am today and not dead or broke. she has been a great mother to our kids and never tortured me for my shortcomings. SOMEBODY was looking out for me !

SORRY TO PUT PRESSURE ON YOU GUYS!! (AND LADIES)

Jimmy Gamble(1971 ) (1971)

This is an easy question, I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT GAIL I know that she was put on this earth just for me to be my wife, and not meaning to sound mushy but God knows I don't know what I would do without her in my life for all these years. The best part of it all is that when I first layed eyes on her Decades ago I had no idea that she would make everyday of my life as complete as she has, I just thought that she was cute and I wanted to get with her, I have really been BLESSED. The down side of this is I have not cashed my own pay chcek since the late seventies according to her that is a wife's job.

Freddie Kennedy (1969 ) (1969)

I HAVE BEEN READING ALL THE MESSAGES AND ENJOYING THEM ALL. THIS TIME I AM ANSWERING WILLARD'S QUESTION.
I KNEW FROM THE FIRST TIME THAT I SAW MY WIFE WHO YOU ALL KNOW, I TOLD HER THAT SHE WAS GOING TO BE MY WIFE. SHE IS MY SOULMATE IN EVERY WAY. I START A SENTENCE AND SHE COMPLETES IT. OUR LOVE OVER THE YEARS HAS JUST GOTTEN STRONGER AND BETTER.SHE IS MY BEST FRIEND MY LIFE IS HER AND MY FAMILY. WE HAVE RAISED 6 CHILDREN AND NOW WE HAVE 18 GRANDCHILDREN. I GUESS THAT'S WHAT 39 YEARS OF A MARRIAGE BUILT ON FAITH, TRUST AND LOVE WILL DO FOR YOU.
