HAPPY HOLIDAYS CLASSMATES!  MUCH LOVE TO YOU ALL!

MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES!

I am happy to be in Tampa with family and friends.  I feeled so blessed to have this God Given Opportunity. If all goes as planned hope to spend a couple of days in Jacksonville.  I stopped in Jacksonville to make a trip to Jenkins Barbeque before heading to my destination.  Looking forward to the traditional crab feast today. Umm, hopefully I can get me a taste of whitening fish when I come back through Jacksonville.

Hello classmates. I was in contact with Leroy, during the time of his illness for months.  He was always in good spirit , and would say to me that it was all in Gods hand, which was true.  I am truly sadden of his loss but no more pain and suffering.  I spoke with him in the hospital on last week he was still in good spirit.  Too the family we all will truly miss Leroy.

Happy New Year to all...

Unfortunately, I have sad news for all of our family that had the pleasure of knowing and playing for a great man, Coach James (Fat Jack) Taylor. According to the Beaches Leader, he passed away Tuesday at home, surrounded by his family.

During the mid 60's and early 70', Coach Taylor was not only a fine coach, but also a father figure to myself and many other players on his team. Although we were not as large as many teams that we played against, we were "Agile, Mobile and Hostile".This was the mindset he instilled in his teams over the years. He taught us that hard work and determination, really did pay off.

Dud, Tom, Choo-Choo and I learned a lot about hard work, dedication, pride and teamwork from Coach Taylor and his staff. From the highs of the Meninak Bowl to the lows of the TechHigh game, we had unforgetable time and lifelong memories.

I thank Coach Taylor for all he did for me as a young man. I am forever grateful.

His service will be held at Beaches Chapel on Florida Blvd Neptune Bch with a reception following at FHS.

Been a way for a while.  Thanks for the message today Willard on Coach Taylor.  Butch and Ronnie I see I miss your calls.  Will call you both tomorrow.  Zig sorry to read about your loss.  My late prayer is given to you and your family.

I don't know if everyone realize the person Coach Taylor was to a lot of us.  No not a lot of us, but all of us (black athletes).  This was the early 70's during school intergration.  I came from the inter city before coming to Fletcher.  I knew what others thought of me and my position in life, not to good (second class citizen).  Coach Taylor told us there was only one color at Fletcher High and that was PURPLE.

After being named the first black QB at Fletcher, I spent many of evenings in Coach Taylor's home, with his family eating dinner.  I couldn't foresee this happening anwhere in Jax during that time.  While at his home or at school, I felt the love was for forreal.  Believe me I knew real during those times.  My guard was always up because of the 60's riots, I had been through.

I can relate to what Rod is saying in his annoucement of this event.  Lets all show our support to someone who not only was a leader of boys to men, but someone who overlooked our skin color and treated us fairly in a time when others where not.

Larry Holsey

I know I've been out of touch on the site for a min, however, I would like to send my late date condolences to the Currelley family in there lost of Leroy.  Yes, he was a happy go lucky funny dude.  We grew up in the same hood on Shetters ave. until the low income housing was built in the early 70's.  Thanks Leroy, for giving me my first busboy job to help support my son.  I remember him telling me why arn't you passing out the cigars new daddy.  What a for real neighbor to have known. I still remember Leroy's green 73 dodge challenger and his lead of a foot.  Oh yeah we did get to work on time. Right on time.

RIP my bro.

On Monday I attended the home going  services of our revered coach Jack Taylor.  Beaches chapel was full.  When coach Taylor's daughter asked that his former players stand, it was easily half of the attendance.  To have known coach Taylor,  to listen to those that knew him, he was quite a man.  I was glad to see some of the guys i played with and some I did not.  Coach Gallon, Sam Thomas, Big Noah Jackson, my friend and  team-mate Roderick "Big Ma" Wilson, Raymond Campbell to name a few.  It is a somber but joyous feeling to see friends and acquaintances that you haven't seen in so long at a funeral.  But It is a fact that we are going to continue to depart this earth and its going to be posted somewhere for others to see. Its sad to me that this is the only time we choose to get together.  Once again someone made  the comment that the reunion site is sad because of the death notices.  Again, Its gonna be posted somewhere and here on the site is good because there are others who want to know.  In addition to that, it seems to be the only information that anyone wants to post.  So how can it be anything else?  It can only be something different if you make it that way.  Words of expression are free.  Everyone seems to be so busy and private.  But still,  we keep hope alive.

My apologies to Roderick and his always gracious wife Elaine for not being able to attend lunch after the services on Monday.  I needed to get back to Tallahassee to attend a prior engagement...

Well Willard everything is not always sad, there are exciting things that happen,  we can talk about.  It is Income Tax season.  I have been one of the many to send in some Income Tax returns on this first day of the season (thanks to that great man above).  I enjoy meeting new people every year during this time of year.  Getting them more money and as much as I can back.  After 9 hours of work , I come home and work for another 5 plus hours.  I love what I do and I do it well.

To everyone it is always nice to read good things about our families and classmates, I really enjoy this site.

QUESTION OF THE DAY!  Let's come up with a question and see who comes up with the answer.  Anyone can post a question.

I want to post the first question(s).

Who was the first white individual to attend Florida A. & M. University to play football?

I have a second question.

Who is the Chaplain for the City Of Jacksonvilles Fire Department?

01/19/12 11:28 PM #1426

Earnestine Lodge (Rackley) (1973)

The Answer to Question # 1 is Paul Echols  ( Offensive Tackle ) from Jacksonville fl He played high school @ Lee High School.

The answer to Question # 2 is Bishop Percey Golden

01/20/12 09:07 AM #1427

Willard Dudley(1971 ) (1971)

!00% correct.  And how does she know the answer?  Her Husband, Reverend James Rackley was a teammate of Paul Echols at lee High School.  James was a super star running back at florida A & M .

Bishop Golden is the Chaplain of the entire  Fire department.  This job is quite an honor and quite a responsibility.   We should all be proud of him.

Wow, Mr. Dudley keep the questions coming.  I am really learning some interesting facts and so proud to hear of my classmate accomplishments. Missing everyone since the reunion , we must do it again in 2013.

Allstar Cheerleading Season, officially started for my child in December and  between practices and competitions we're on the road again. Just came back from Chattanooga last weekend. 2 upcoming competitions in Atlanta in February, and  then on to Dallas, Texas at the end of February.   I can't wait to get to Dallas we've been there 2 years in a row and always have had such a good time. Then on  to a competition in Destin, FL, our 3rd trip there. Ending  at  Cheerleading Worlds  in Orlando at the end of April. Sometimes, I feel like a Chaueffer, these kids have your running.  Take Care Classmates and be blessed.

Counties were once identified by the first number on your auto tag.  What was 1,2,4 and 13?

There are a lot of things that this site can be used for:

1. Scholarship information

2. Job availability or training

3.  Accomplishments

4. items for sale

5. Events of interest (Zora Neil Hurston) in Eatonville. bishop Goldens annual  Gospel event in the park

6.  Some of our classmates have children or relatives in sports that we may want to keep up with.  Some in college, academics, music and even in the NFL.  It can be anything you may feel is significant or worthy of mentioning.

7.  You may even have questions about health, medic remedies, exercise or diet.  There is someone out there that has the answer,  one of your classmates.

Take advantage of the free site.  Don't wait until there's only bad news to report......

Have a good day (lol).

Answer to my question:  Back during the old days you could tell what county in Florida someones car was from by the first number(s) on their tag. 1 was the Miami area. 2 was the Jacksonville area, 4 was the Tampa St. Pete Area and 13 was Tallahassee.
