"P-Nut" passed away on January 5, 2009 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital in Whitesburg Kentucky. P-Nut was 76 years, 2 months, and 26 days old at the time of his passing.
James "P-nut" Adams graduated with me in the class of 1950. He was my cousin and we were room mates at Morehead State College. In 2001, I attended our class reunion and talked to "P-Nut" about the books I had written over the years. In July,2008, while attending "McRoberts Days" I visited him at the nursing home in Whitesburg. He did not recognize me, so I went back the next day and took my latest book, "Eastern Kentucky Short Stories" with me. After showing him the book, he stared at me for awhile and then, with a slight smile, he said, "You write books." One of the nurses was startled and said that was the first words he had spoken in a while. I left with tears in my eyes. Maynard Adams, Fort Lupton, CO
P-Nut and I worked together from 1980 to 1998. We were together everyday and we talked alot. He loved his children Jenifer and Jeffery. He talked about them alot and worried about them as a good parent would. We use to go hunting and fishing every chance we could even if we just walked the bank and had fun. I sure do miss you old friend. Think about you alot. Thanks for the good times and the special things you taught me. Bobby Tucker
I first became acquainted with Jim when his dad, Mack, hired me in November 1961. Mack had just signed a contract to build the Jenkins Hospital Clinic for Dr. Musgrave. I worked that winter and the next summer doing common labor jobs such as carrying bricks, mixing and carrying mortar to the brick masons. I worked for Mack and Jim for the next two summers to earn my college tuition to go to Clinch Valley College. I appreciate the opportunity that he and Mack provided me so I could work my way through college. I remember when Mack had the contract to paint the whole town of Wheelwright, Kentucky in the summer of 1964. That was the last summer that I worked for him and Jim. Jim called me Hop Sing that summer after the chinese cook on the tv show Bonanza. I had not seen Jim in several years but I will never forget him or his dad.
