
Obituary
Michael Darrel Shortt, age 57, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday April 19, 2011, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky. He was born on July 12, 1953, at Jenkins, Kentucky, and had made Jackhorn his home for the last thirty-two years. He was a coal miner and was employed at Cam Mining Co., at the time of his death. Michael was of the Protestant faith and was a former President of the Coal Miners Memorial Organization.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rudell Tucker Shortt.
Survivors include his wife, Helena Potter Shortt, Jackhorn, Kentucky; two daughters, Jenay Hall, Jackhorn, Kentucky, and Lavonia Mullins, Pound, Virginia; a son, Chad Fleming, of Crafts Colley, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Heath Fleming, Gavin Fleming, Colt Fleming, Natazsha Hall, Lauren Hall, Grayson Mullins, and Hannah Mullins; his father, Herbert Ray Shortt, Jenkins, Kentucky; two sisters, Pat Faris, Flemingsburg, Kentucky; and Teresa Johnson, of Cynthania, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends.
