Fred Howard Spears died in a mining electrical accident on July 5, 1999. He was born on December 19, 1953, the son of Edwin Morrow and Rhudell Johnson Spears.
Fred is survived by his wife Sandy and daughter Elizabeth; two sisters, Bertha Gay Tackett and Deborah Count; three brothers, Jimmy Spears, William Spears and Edwin Morrow Spears, Jr; two half-sisters, Sheila Spears and Carrie Spears.

Fred was a mine electrician and was killed while working on a piece of mining equipment by electrocution. Fred also had a part time job as a radio announcer for WIFX. He had the natural voice for radio and had a great following of listners. He is survived by his wife Sandy (Spears) who attended FNHS and a daughter Elizabeth who now lives in Florida.
