Sally Fugate (Caudill)

Sally Elizabeth Fugate Webb Caudill, born on June 11, 1934 peacefully passed away on April 4, 2025. She was the youngest child of Elbert and Betsey Adams Fugate and is now reunited with her beloved siblings: Elbert (Chris) Fugate Jr; Washington Eugene 'Bud" (Louise) Fugate, Lillian Russell Fugate (Dock) Webb, Nancy Jane Fugate (Jack) Banks, Cornelia Hope Fugate (Richard) Whitaker, and Mattie Lou Fugate (Pat) Anderson, all of whom have preceded her in death.

Sally's life was marked by love and resilience. She was married to Sam Webb, with whom she welcomed a son, Sam Clinton Webb. Tragically, Sam passed away when Clint was just four years old. In time, Sally found love again with Herb Caudill, who also passed.

She leaves a loving legacy, including her son Clint Webb and two precious grandsons, Sam Webb and Landon Webb. Sally is also survived by a cherished group of nieces and nephews: Rebecca Ann Whitaker Reynolds, Richard Whitaker, Connie Whitaker Rash, Sherman Elbert Whitaker, Teresa Fugate Terhune, Tim Fugate, Gillie Webb, Nancy Jane Anderson, and Pat Anderson Jr, along with a host of great-nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward.

A lifelong educator, Sally dedicated her career to teaching and inspiring students as an English teacher and literature teacher and later as a school librarian. Her passion for education shaped the lives of countless young learners, and her influence was felt throughout the community 

Sally was an active member of several organizations that enriched her life. She was a devoted Christian and member of First Baptist Church of Whitesburg, Beta Sigma Sorority(Laureate Rho Chapter), Daughter of the American Revolution (Pine MTN Chapter) Red Hat Society (Mountain Mamma Chapter) and the Letcher County Retired Teachers Organization. She was also past member of the Whitesburg Garden Club.

Known for her elegance and style, Sally embraced life with grace and enthusiasm. Her laughter, kindness, and remarkable spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

As we celebrate the beautiful life of Sally Elizabeth Webb Caudill, let us remember her as a classy lady who cherished her family, her friends, and her passion for teaching. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered in our hearts.

Gerald Hunt (1961)

Miss Fugate was my Freshman English teacher in the school year 1957-58 at Jenkins High School.  She was an excellent teacher.
