Thurman Blizzard (1960)
David and I were first cousins. I am Thurman Blizzard. I've known David since we were kids. One of my first memories of him was watching him fly fishi at Jenkins Lake, and admiring the string of fish he caught. He was of small stature, but big on heart and determination.. He played guard (Number 31) on the football team at Jenkins High School for three years. He graduated from JHS in 1956 and married his high school sweetheart, Monnie Hill. They moved to Alexandria,Virginia where David was hired by Naval Research Laboratory, where he remained until he retired. While there, as a mechanical engineer, he worked on the Solar Ultraviolet Spectral Infrared Iradiance Monitoring system (SUSIM) to study the sun, launched into space with the third shuttle. David was also sent to White Sands New Mexico for his expertise in rocket techology. After he retired, he and Monnie moved back to Tennessee where David, never one to sit, became a Real Estate Broker. He had an endless supply of jokes to tell. David and Monnie has one child, Susan Blizzard Oler, who became a nurse. Susan gave him a grandson, Zachary. David is remembered for many qualities, liked by all, and especially for his kindness.
