Betty Nichols 65 died June 13, 2011 with her family by her side in Richmond, Kentucky. Visitation will be Thursday June 16, 2011 from 6-9 pm at Lakes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, June 17 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. She was born July 21, 1945, in McRoberts, KY to Henry and Zula Elizabeth Sword. Her father was a coal miner and Betty was the middle child of nine raised in the mountains of Kentucky. Betty graduated from Jenkins High School in 1963. She moved to Michigan that year, where she met and married Eugene Nichols a welder fresh from the Navy. Together they raised two daughters. Betty held many different occupations during her life, but her most satisfying career came when she became a realtor at the age when most people would be retiring. Her interests included family, real estate, antiquing and bingo. Betty is survived by her husband Eugene; daughters Laura Zelenka and Gena Edwards; sons-in-law, Christopher Zelenka and Brian Edwards; 6 sisters Wilan, Jean, Etta, Gaye, Lorsie and Leshia; and one brother Paul. She was preceded in death by one brother Bobby Slone.
