Rosemary Brown (Shook) - Class Of 1959

Mrs. Rosemary Brown Shook, 73, of Elizabethton, TN  moved from her earthly life to a new eternal life in Heaven, Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at her residence. She was born in Seco, Ky., to the late Don and Frankie Fleenor Brown. She grew up in Jenkins, Ky., graduated from Jenkins High School, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morehead State College, Morehead, Ky. Rosemary always thought of Jenkins as home and her love for the Old Jenkins High School building was a driving force in her life since 1992, when she returned to Jenkins to teach. Her love for her students throughout her 37-year career was always evident to all who knew her. Her love for the town, her students, and the old high school was recognized in August of 2014 when she was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Jenkins Homecoming Festival Committee. She was recognized by the Kentucky Education Department as “A Teacher That Made a Difference” in April of 2007. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher, and was a member of the choir. Rosemary had a special love in her heart for Sugar Grove Baptist Church, Butler. Until her illness she was a member of the Elizabethton Choral Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Gene Mullins. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, John Shook; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Suzie Shook, Indian Land, S.C., and Don and Ana Shook, Land O’Lakes, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Cody and Casey; a great-granddaughter, Kimber Rose; the most wonderful group of cousins in the world; and a host of other relatives and friends. A service to celebrate the life of Rosemary Brown Shook will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at Sugar Grove Baptist Church, Butler, with Dr. Ray Sorrells officiating. Music will be provided by the Sugar Grove Baptist Church Choir. Interment will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Rinshaw officiating. Active pallbearers will be cousins and friends. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to her medical staff and nurses and to all of her many friends for their love, prayers, visits, cards and flowers. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Rosemary to the Sugar Grove Baptist Church, 925 Sugar Grove Church Road, Butler, TN 37640 or the Oak Street Baptist Church, 804 Oak Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at her residence.
