Frances Jo Mullins (Spicer) - Class Of 1958

Frances Jo "Mullins" Spicer, daughter of the late John and Sophia Mullins was born at Burdine, Ky on July 22, 1940. She attended Burdine Elementary School and graduated from Jenkins High School in 1958. She passed from this life on September 23, 2019.


Frances Jo and John R. Spicer were married on April 30, 1960 at Clintwood, VA. They moved to Miamisburg, OH where John worked until 1963. They then moved back to Neon, KY. where John worked for Quillen Drug and Jo worked for the Letcher County School Board from 1969 until 1997 at Martha Jane Potter Elementary School. They made their home at Seco.

Jo gave her life to Christ in November 1999 and became a member of the Hemphill Baptist Church in 2000. She was very active and loved her church family very much. Most of all she loved her savior Jesus Christ.

Jo is survived by one son, John (and Anita) Spicer of Ft. Myers Beach, Florida and one daughter, Kimberly Jo (Joseph) Ison of Richmond, KY. Also surviving are five loving grandchildren, John Roger Spicer III of Ft. Myers, FL, Joshua Lee Standifur of Jenkins, KY, Jessica Weaver of Ft. Myers, FL, Kori Ryne Standifur of Richmond, KY and Joseph Ison II of Lexington, KY. And six great grandchildren, Brayden, Ryleigh, Nolan, Clay, Melody, and Camryn. She loved her grandchildren and great grand children very much. She also leaves behind one sister, Katie Ruth Pass of Winchester, KY.

Jo was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John Spicer, two brothers, John "Bud" Mullins, Bobby G. Mullins, sisters, Ann Mullins, Juanita Haley, Jerry Belcher and Marie Looney.

Funeral: 12:00 O'clock Noon, Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Hemphill Baptist Church. Visitation: 3:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. Friday at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens at Powell Valley, Virginia.

Friday Sept 27 - Public Visitation at Letcher Funeral Home from 3pm - 9pm

Saturday Sept 28 - Public Visitation at Hemphill Baptist Church from 10am - 12noon
Funeral Service will begin at Noon on Saturday. 
Burial to follow at Powell Valley Cemetery in Powell Valley, VA. 

We will have a celebration of life service beginning Friday evening at 7pm. If any of her fellow co-workers, former students of MJP,  friends or family members would like to share a memory or say a few words in honor of her we would greatly appreciate it.
