Granville Eagly Ogly Thorpe Everly Burke

October 1, 1934 ~ December 12, 2019

Granville Eagly Ogly Thorpe Everly Burke, 85, Gas City, passed away at 11:26 pm on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at Twin City Health Care in Gas City. He was born in Jenkins, Kentucky, on Monday, October 1, 1934, to the late Leffey Lee and Flora (Mullins) Burke. He married Learlene Ratliff, who preceded him in death.

Granville was a graduate of Jenkins High School and retired from General Motors, where he was an inspector for 31 years. He always had a love for music and enjoyed singing. Granville was a hard worker throughout his life and a very skilled craftsman. He had made his own furniture, as well as various pieces out of turtle shells. He had even raised wild animals of all kinds. When he retired, he went back home to Kentucky to spend time in the mountains and, up until he was 79 years old, he did tree topping.

He will be missed by his children, Timothy (Cindy) Burke of Noblesville, WeDonnia (Mike) Ballard of Jonesboro, Dawson Burke of Anderson, Granville M. (Karla) Burke of Gas City, Jimmy (Berneda) Polly of KY, and David Polly of VA; 13 grandchildren, Dawson (Mandy) Burke, Angie (Krell) Sparrow, Debbie Burke-Munoz, Thomas (Renee) Burke, Nicole West, Kari (Thomas) Pearce, Daniel (Dena) West, Granville Mark Jr., and Christopher Polly; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, LaVon Conley; and brothers, Ronald (Bernice) Burke and Kenneth (Lois) Burke.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Arville Burke; sisters, Christine Akers, Barbara Powers, and Wanda Glisson; grandson, James Burke; daughter-in-law, Penny Polly; and brother-in-law, Truman Conley; favorite coon dogs, Newt and Striker.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Integrity Funeral Care, 2901 S. Washington St., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Granville's life will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
