Allie Evanoff (Webb) - Class Of 1939

Allie Webb, 93, of Jenkins Kentucky, widow of James Edward “Bateye” Webb, was called home Sunday April 2, 2017. Born in Tribby, Kentucky, she was a long-time resident of Jenkins and more recently of Wise, Virginia. Allie was truly an amazing woman with a smile that could light up a room. She was very humble, selfless, and generous. She was full of grace, and had a quiet dignity that was unmistakable. She was a devoted wife to her husband Ed, and a loving mother to her many children. She grew up during the depression when times were hard, but often remarked that this was a great time to live because everyone shared everything they had. When she was young Allie and her older sister would walk nine miles to Hardburly, Kentucky to sell vegetables. As a junior and senior in high school she also cleaned the Dunham School, oiled the woodwork, and built fires in the pot belly stoves in each room before school started. Allie graduated High School when she was 15 years old and subsequently worked in the Consolidation Coal Company store in Dunham, and also the Post Office within the store as well as the Jenkins Post Office. She often talked about how this was the best job in the world. She got a lot of pleasure from helping people. Addressing letters for postal customers with children serving overseas during World War II was one of her many fond memories. She married Ed Webb in 1945 when she was 22 years old and they raised 10 children on a coal miner’s salary. Later in life, Allie worked in the cafeteria at the Burdine School before retiring. Allie was preceded in death by her husband Ed Webb; son Jerry Webb; father Tony Evanoff; mother Zona Evanoff; her beautiful sisters Anna and Allois; and her younger brother Alick. She is survived by her sons Jimmy (Judy) Webb; Joel (Angie) Webb; Tim (Myra) Webb; David (Sally) Webb; Tom (Lynnell) Webb; Steve (Leslie) Webb; and daughters Sandy Webb; Teresa Webb; and Hazel (Wesley) Boone; as well as her grandchildren Jamey Webb; Jessica Thacker; Josh Webb; Lynn Dugan; Matthew Webb; Troy Boone; Kaitlin Boone; and great grandchildren Lauren and Danielle Webb; Lily and Addy Thacker; Emma, Olivia and Abel Webb; and Makayla Dugan. She was loved by all who knew her.
