Graveside services for William “Bill” Henry Sergent, 89, were held February 16 at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.

Born in Whitaker to the late John Sergent and Norma Mullins Sergent, he died February 13 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center in Hazard.

He was the widower of Peggy Conley Sergent, and a brother of the late Claude Sergent, Danny Sergent, Jeannie Coots, Shirley Fellure and Freda Lucas.

Mr. Sergent was a member of the Jenkins Masonic Lodge #856 for many years, and was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Sergent of Jenkins; a son, Mike Sergent and wife Debbie of Rutledge, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Jared Sergent and wife Christine of Georgetown, and Michael Ryan Sergent and wife Tere of Morristown, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Camryn Grace Sergent, Lauryn Michael Sergent, and Chandler Ryan Sergent; a brother, John Ed Sergent of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and two sisters, Mary Francis Fairchild of Lexington, and Laura Jane Vanderheyden of Indiana.

Carty Funeral Home of Jenkins had charge of arrangements.
