Seth Hand Kegan - Class Of 1953

Seth Hand Kegan, Jr passed from this life to his eternal home on Friday, September 2, 2022, at the age of 87. He died peacefully with his wife of 67 years, Alice, by his side in his hometown of Jenkins, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Seth Hand Kegan, Sr and Margaret Nichols Kegan, and two sisters, Barbara Belcher and Betty Polly.

He is survived by three children Margaret Shepherd (Chris), Ross Kegan (Sharra) and Anita Fore (Rick) and grandchildren Laura Kegan, Jonathon Kegan (Jordan), Justin Bishop (fiance Ashley Morgan), Stephen Bishop (Madelyn) and great-grandchildren Parker and Liam Kegan. Seth was never happier than to have his family around him, especially his children and great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, now Virginia Tech, with a degree in mining engineering in 1958.  He served in various capacities for thirty years at Beth-Elkhorn Coal Company, eventually serving as the General Manager prior to his retiring in 1987. After retirement, he served as a consultant in the coal industry for five years followed by managing a mine supply business for another twenty years.  He and his wife Alice also owned and operated Kegan Stables for over thirty years.

Seth was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pound, VA.  He was a student of the Bible, taught Sunday School for over fifty years and served as an ordained deacon.  Of the many wonderful things that could be written about Seth-his intellect, his wit, his life of integrity--what mattered at the end of his life is how he lived his life, having served the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart, soul and mind, with all his strength. His was a life well-lived. Many crowns await him.
