Donald Lee Vanover - Class Of 1956

Donald Lee Vanover Sr., 84, went to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 6, 2022. He died at home surrounded by his loving family in Georgetown, IN. He was born October 27, 1937, in Burdine, KY the son of Orville and Vada Goff Vanover. He graduated from Jenkins High School where he was the captain of the basketball team for his junior and senior years. He coached basketball at the YMCA and was an avid Kentucky Wildcat fan. In high school, he met then married his bride of 65 years, Bobbie Ann Holmes. They moved to Louisville, Kentucky where he went to the Speed School of Engineering and then worked in the test labs of General Electric for 42 years. Donald and Bobbie enjoyed traveling. They traveled to California, Alaska, Florida, Nova Scotia and Canada. After retiring he designed and built a family cabin where many special memories were made. He was a member of Georgetown Christian Church where he was an Elder for many years. He went on several mission trips and taught Bible studies. Donald had a heart for the unborn and for underprivileged children. He supported Scenic Hills Christian Camp and served the folks of the congregation by building ramps and doing home repairs for the elderly. He lived his faith by serving others. He worked hard for his family and adored his children. He played with and laughed with his grandchildren: Clifton, Jonathan, Michael, Matt, Lee, Nate, Chase and, finally a granddaughter, Cassie. He was so proud of his three great grandchildren: Tripp, Silas and Jasmine. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Sidney and Eddie Wayne Vanover and his sister, Sue Woodford. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Ann Holmes Vanover of Georgetown, IN; his son, Donald Lee Vanover, Jr. (Carole) of Georgetown, IN; daughters, Kimberly Hunt (Robert) of London, OH and Amy Holland (Tony) of Shelbyville, KY; a sister, Nancy Salyers of Wise, VA; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
