FIREMAN 1ST CLASS JOSEPH COX WASSUM KIA, U. S. Navy. Born January. 19, 1924. Entered service March 15, 1941, at the age of 17. He served at, Great Lakes, Illinois; Atlantic Theater; Pacific Theater (PTO). Killed in action December 4, 1943 at the age of 19. He served on the USS Lexington CV 16. Awarded eight Battle Stars Purple Heart Medal (PHM). Attended Jenkins High School. He is of Missionary Baptist Church. Brother of Private ROBERT HOWE, WASSUM JR. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Wassum, Jenkins, Kentucky.
