Betty Fern Huffman (Browning) - Class Of 1945

Betty Fern Huffman Browning, Bellville, OH, passed away on October 22, 2025, at the age of 98 years, 10 months. She was born in McRoberts, Kentucky, on January 4, 1927, to John and Bess (Brannon) Huffman. Betty graduated in 1945 from Jenkins High School, Jenkins, KY.

On June 11, 1950, Betty married James Browning. They were often referred to as the “sweetest little couple” because of the love and devotion they had for each other.

Betty is survived by her daughter Marlene (Charlie) Browning Carter, Bellville, OH, and grandsons Mike (Jill) Lifer, Jeromesville, OH, Jay (Lisa) Carter, Holly, MI, Chad (Carrie) Lifer, Landenberg, PA, Joel Carter, Altamonte Springs, FL, and six great grandchildren: Sarah Lifer, Jarrod Lifer, Zack Carter, Paige Carter, Sadie Lifer, and Brooklynn Lifer, sisters-in-law Patsy Browning, Enith Bentley, Bobbie Whitaker, Sue Browning, and brother-in-law Harold Browning. She also leaves beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Johnathan Bill, her mother and father-in-law, Bill and Mollie Browning, sisters Lucille Fleming, and Nancy Adams, brothers John Huffman, and Bill Huffman, sisters-in-law Wilma Huffman, Betty Huffman, Betty Faye Browning, Regina Browning, brothers-in-law, Roy Fleming, Bert Adams, Donnie Browning, Ted Browning, John Bentley, and Charles Whitaker.

Betty was a devout Christian whose first love was Jesus Christ. It is impossible to know how many lives she touched through her love for Jesus. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, active as a Sunday school teacher, and ladies church ministries. For 16 years Betty and her husband James served as Sojourners (missionaries) for the Church of Christ.  Betty was a proud Kentucky Colonel, a much coveted title for any Kentuckian.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home.  Additional calling hour will be from 9:30 am until 11:30 am on Friday, October 31, 2025 at the funeral home. A service honoring Betty's life and faith will follow at 11:30 am with Chris Fox officiating. Interment will follow Betty’s Celebration of Life at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.
