John D. Smith 89 years of age of Burdine, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Wells Hospice Center in Hazard. He was born on February 27, 1937, to the late Charles Smith and Dulcina Noble Smith.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Smith, Langley Smith, and Bobby Smith; two sisters, Vivian Warrix and Phyllis Combs.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Johnson Smith; four sons, Jason (Amanda) Smith, Jordan Smith, Wayne Bowling, and Michael Bowling; two daughters, Jami (Billy) Arnold and Melissa (Rodney) Smith; nine grandchildren, Michael, Jocelynne, Olivia, Megan, Justin, Conner, Madison, Megan, and Cameron.
Funeral services will be at 1:00PM on Monday, April 27, at the McRoberts Missionary Baptist Church with Henry Rucker officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Acres Cemetery at Whitesburg. Visitation will begin on Sunday at 6:00PM at the Hall and Jones Funeral Home, Jenkins Chapel.
