In Memory

Don Mros

DONALD JAMES MROS (Age 62) On Tuesday, January 7, 2014 died at home with his family, 18 months after his diagnosis of Stage IV pancreatic cancer. Don was a loving husband to his wife of 29 years, Beth Rekart, a wonderful father to Catherine and Abby Mros; a beloved brother to Bob Mros (Jefferson City, MO); and a favorite brother-in-law, uncle, friend and colleague. Don will always be remembered for his wit that was as dry as his martinis, which is to say very, very, very dry. Nothing was too serious to be joked about and he was known for his irreverence in the face of adversity. Don loved baseball, travel, music, movies, history and art and was always ready to visit new restaurants with family and friends. Don will also be remembered as a dedicated and skilled lawyer, becoming internationally recognized as an insurance insolvency expert. A native of St. Louis, MO, Don taught history before receiving his J.D. from UMKC School of Law in 1984, after which he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Anthony P. Nugent in the Missouri Court of Appeals. Don and Beth moved to Washington, DC in 1985 at which time he took a position as a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice (Civil Division) until 1987. Don went into private practice with Hughes, Hubbard and Reed, LLP and then joined the DC office of Chadbourne & Parke, LLP as an associate in January of 1989 where he worked as Counsel until the very last week of December. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 11, 2014 between 4 to 7 p.m. at Joseph Gawler's Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20016.
