Can anybody recommend some decent music? I like all kinds, but I swear nobody makes good music anymore. I guess that's why Def Leppard, the Police, etc. are going on tour...to save us from the crap that's on the radio these days.

On that note, what's your favorite 80s band? I still listen to U2, Prince and Journey all the time. I miss Salt & Peppa too. Saw Prince in concert...BEST SHOW EVER!! For all you guys rolling your eyes, he is an amazing musician.

Molly, I can do better than decent, I can recommend this hot new radical sound that is sweeping the digital underground all over the world......HIT IT!

Molly, I was dragged to a Prince concert when I lived in Atlanta. Small club venue. And to this day I can say without question it was the best concert I've ever seen.

I found a box of old concert tee shirts a few years ago. And I dont remember some of the bands. Sad and scary.

Eighties music is the best! I agree, Molly...Journey, Prince. I've seen Journey a few times, Foreigner(sp?), Tom Petty, Springsteen, Clapton. And if they want to laugh at Prince, we did grow up with Madonna. Her latest isn't my favorite type of music, but talk about an awesome performer!

Very nice Brendhan. Do people really buy Polka music? My mom dated a guy who played the accordian before she remarried my dad. We (me, Paula, and my brother Jon, aka Harv) made that poor man miserable.

Since we're talking about music and concert. What's your most embarrassing concert experience. Mine's a toss up between Keith Sweat and MC Hammer. Saw Keith Sweat at Virginia Tech. I admit it, I loved it. When I hear his music now, I cringe.

You know, Im still a Mariah Carey fan. She has a killer song out called "touch my body".

I like musicians/singers like:
- Sean Kingston
- Chris Brown
- Rihanna

Get this though, my little Gabby, 5 years old, started singing a song the other day. Never heard this song before and this is what came out of her mouth - "I kissed a girl and I liked it..." I was like Wow... never heard that song before.

Ok, I've been lurking on this forum, but music - that I have to comment on. Both my boys "saw" Prince in utero, and I think that accounts for their awesome musical taste and dancing ability! I just saw Springsteen for the second time, and tried to see Van Halen but apparently Eddie has some "medical condition" that postponed a lot of concert dates. My Ipod contains 80s, disco, and a lot of recent stuff - I admit to loving Green Day and Blink 182, The Killers, the Decembrists, Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend. And yes, Madonna's recent collaboration with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland rocks!

Other than Beyonce (she's my girl crush), I don't like hip hop these days. JT is okay, I guess. I still listen to gangsta rap when I'm in the car alone. 2 Pac mostly.

Here's a random. I saw Dickie Betts in Norfolk, VA at a small venue. For those who aren't fans of the Allman Brothers Band, he was their guitarist until he was kicked out of the band for his anger management problems.

My Brother's sons, are 6 and 5, the 5 year-old absolutely demands to have the heavy metal satellite station on when they are in their car and he loves to headbang to it. Liam was watching Bella and he brought her over to our house when it was time to drop her off. I went out to meet them and I opened the minivan door and out blare's Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction" and all 3 kids, 3, 5 and 6 years-old are headbanging, yelling and kicking in their carseats. Now, when we get in our car Bella asks for "Daddy's rock-n-roll" on the radio (Her mother doesn't like it). I'm such a proud papa. :-)

Sweet, Brendhan! Sam and Matt like to thrash around to the Beastie Boys, among others. I think the wider a kid's musical horizon can be, the better.

I can't keep out of the music talk either. Georgie Privett reminded me of the George Michael concert she, Janice H. and I went to. I think it was the summer after we graduated. He was hot then....before he had a, um, change of lifestyle....(Now I have a WHAM song going through my head.)

Brendhan, that is awesome.

Enter Sandman by Metallica gets Teddy jumping up and down...usually while watching Virginia Tech football. VT grads--if you haven't been back for a game lately, you are missing out. The entrance to "Enter Sandman" rocks. Gives me chills just thinking about it.

Jim I'll take a tarrot reading if it's all good stuff that will come true...otherwise I'll pass. ;-)

BTW, based on your pics have the award for coolest home so far...no, I'm not joking.

It's funny...I listen to ALL types of music now. From The Beastie Boys to Lyle Lovett to Foo Fighters, etc. The ONE musician I rarely listen to is Phil Collins/Genesis. And for those who remembered me from high school, I was a FREAK about him/them!! I guess I OD'd on them or something. I'm going to see the Eagles tomorrow night at JPJ in C-ville. Very much looking forward to that. But I just hate modern "rock" for the most part. It's all usually so damn negative and sounds the same.

Brendhan Pelot (Pelot)

Chris, we all know you soured on Phil Collins because you forced your way backstage at his '88 concert and he turned down your offer of a full-service BJ to completion. But hey, if you want to say you OD'd on PC/Genesis, that's fine by me man.

PS Lakers and Celtics....oh it's gonna happen! :)

Chris--just read your profile and seriously was crying from laughing about the dingleberry, and Tom "sharting" on your floor. Thanks...needed a good laugh.

Chris - the Eagles just played here last weekend and 2 of my friends went and said it was AWESOME. They played for more than 3 hours. Here's another blast from the past -- Duran Duran was in town this past weekend. Another friend hit that concert and emailed me her picture w/ the band. I'm not sure how, but Simon still looks exactly like he did 20 years ago.

My iPod is full of 80's stuff too. My daughter (age 3) loves James Taylor, New Edition and Tom Petty - scary combination. Molly -I'm embarassed to say I was w/ you at that Keith Sweat concert and I agree, it was awesome, but I'm pretty sure we had a few drinks prior to going - that always makes it a little more fun. And I recently had "Push It" (by Salt and Pepa) as my ring tone for about a week. I got lots of crazy looks when my phone would ring so I changed it back to a boring, normal ring.

Geek life means that my musical tastes have shifted.

I grab lots of music from the internet - So, things like:

Jonathan Coulton

I particularly like 'First of May', his cover of 'Baby got Back', 'Code Monkey', and 'Millionaire Girlfriend'

I've also gotten to be a bit of a youtube junky - I'll do a search for a song I like, and then see what those search trails turn up. Some favorites:

Maps, Yeah Yeah Yeah
Colin Hay, I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You
Colin Hay, Waiting for my real life to begin
Liz Phair, Flower

And I also like digging up classics, like:
Dusty Springfield, Phil Collins, Hanoi Rocks or Dolly Parton

Best concert ever - Rush. I saw Rush for the 5th or 6th time last summer and will be seeing them again in July. For some reason they seem to be a love-em-or-hate-em band, but nobody can deny that they're great musicians and they're still going strong in their 50's. My 3-year old girl loves Closer to the Heart and U2's I Will Follow. I saw Journey at Wolf Trap a few years ago - also excellent.

Worst concert ever - Bob Dylan at Virginia Tech. Sorry I had to leave early, Ange, my head just couldn't take it anymore. That was worse than the Alabama concert an ex-girlfriend dragged me to.

I still listen to guitar-dominated bands/artists like Joe Satriani, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Eric Johnson. Newer music I like is Rodrigo y Gabriela, Radiohead, and Dream Theater. On an embarrassing note, my wife and I also watch American Idol and will be rooting heavily for David Cook tonight, while also hoping the Archuleta kid grows a pair, goes postal, and kills his stage dad.

OK-I am on the board now...Molly, you need to listen to Donna the Buffalo. They are a great upstatNY band that is cajun/bluegrass...just great fun stuff. There is a wonderful music festival in NC each spring (Merle Fest); I encourage you all to check it out. It is a family friendly festival for 4 days, and it is what I would imagine Woodstock to have been like.

Also, Molly-I remember Bern...we probably caused him to go to therapy for years after our commentary.

My first concert was Billy Idol ... doesn't get more 80's than that! Speaking of 80's .. we've got an intern working with us that was born in 1986 ... she calls me "Sir" and I'll have to put her in Time Out!!

05/21/08 09:51 AM #282

Brendhan Pelot (Pelot)

Joe, screw Time Out, go Old Skool 80's on her behind and spank her... ;-)

I'm suppose to be working, so can't stay on for long, but I had to mention that Molly dragged me to both the Keith Sweat (aptly named) and MC Hammer concert in college. (I have to admit I had fun).

She also made me go to see all of the lame local hair bands and fell in love with every lead singer (at least for the 2 hours we were there). Molly, remember when you thought that you had your head phones plugged in and were blasting music in the dorm at 1 AM?

My first ever and most recent concert--Duran Duran! I saw them again last year, and they still sound (and look) good.
