I stayed up and watched Palin's speech. I thought it was an incredible speech. Biden better look out when the debates come. I think Palin will eat him for lunch, and then have Obama for desert.
I caught a little bit of it, but my favorite comment was "Being the mayor of a small town is a bit like a Community Organizer, only you have Real Responsibility".
It was an amazing speech. Like most convention speeches though it was short on details. But so were Obamas and Bidens last week.
She "hit a grandslam" to steal a quote that Olberman used 3 times last week to describe Dem speeches.
In an election that's going to be decided by small percentages of votes in specific areas of battleground states (read, Scranton, Philly suburbs, Cuyahoga County OH, Upstate Michigan) she made huge headways.
You know it was a good night when the leftwing extremists (again referring to Keith Olberman) had nothing to say but desperate attempts to claim she had now raised the bar too high for McCain and for her debates in the future.
It's also a shame that Mitt Romney is Mormon. If he was a "boring old Christian" and kept his social views moderate (like they were before he started running for Prez), he'd be everyones all american. AS it stands, his Mormon faith scares the bejeezus out of the illinformed, and his pandering was too overt. But he can give a speech and knows what he's talking about on the economy.
well, it's definitely going to be hysterical, oops, historical. i'm not the political expert that several of you come across as, but i pray that we get someone in office who takes seriously and can do the job. i'm sick of our country being a laughing stock and also tired of the present "conditions". i don't expect perfection, but the last years have gone from bad to worse.
on a much more serious note, Amy, were u flirtin w/ the trooper and what the heck did the pig do?
Realistically, this election will come down to Rove'ian politics vs. Inclusive politics.
Palin is not about appealing to middle America, she is about energizing the conservative base, attacking the Democratic candidates, and getting Republicans so fired up they HAVE to get out and vote to PREVENT the other guys from winning.
Versus the campaign that Obama has run so far - which is a broad attempt to appeal to large numbers of Americans looking for a change in national direction. And, quite obviously, the black vote.
So far, Obama's campaign defeated Hillary's - which was very Rove'ian in my opinion. So, score one for inclusiveness.
I don't know what this campaign will come down to, honestly.
Chris - I think the trooper is retired now, but when I run into him he still laughs! The pig thing was hilarious. It was just running down the middle of Rt 659 so I stopped to chase him out of the road, but instead of going into the wooded side, he went into Ashburn Farms housing development. I can just see me in my uniform running behind this thing! I never knew pigs could run so fast. Me and one of the citizens finally got him back into the woods and he took off.
I think I found a pic of Jason Goodman the morning after the reunion (pic in my profile)....Jason, is that you? Were you walking home from Tom's house?
I think a lot of the party base who were already going to vote for McCain are energized now. And by the same token, those that were already voting for Obama are probably fired up more now too. I'm not sure how many undecideds are really going to be swayed by convention speeches, though - I guess we'll see in a week or so how the polls shake out. Conventions are more of a pep rally than a real dialog on substance. It would be nice if undecided voters paid attention to where the candidates stand on the issues and factor that in more heavily than how well written or well delivered a speech was, or what irrelevant personal matters come to light.
If you cut through the endless campaign rhetoric, there are a few pretty clear differences between these candidates, and it goes beyond the typical "they'll raise your taxes" and "they'll cut your health care" fear tactics we always hear.
I won't vote for either party because I don't think either of them are concerned with anything other than holding on to (or obtaining) power. Having said that if you do plan on voting for either candidate the best thing you can base your decision on is their voting record (or in some cases how they did not vote).
Look at their voting records and pick the one you agree with the most. What they say or say they will do doesn't mean squat. Picking a VP doesn't mean squat (they are all too self involved to think they might die) about who they are. Their votes (or lack of votes in some cases) tells you how they will govern to an extent and even then those are circumspect to a degree because some of their votes (or non votes) are part of "deals" to get something else they want.
Yep, politics in this country are screwed and I'm not convinced voting for either of the two major parties will fix that. If you reward them with your vote then they think they are playing the game correctly.
Its so awesome to see everyone sort transfering over to facebook. Now we can continue to keep in touch after this sight drops off. Im heading out to the eastern shore for my birthday this weekend, so hopefully I will not be blown away by Hannah. My hubbie and I are sortof unprofessional storm chasers...dont ask why because I have no clue! Anyway, should be some good wind and rain, but I dont think it will be too treacherous. Have a great weekend everyone, and Ill read up when I get back!
we had a lot of rain yesterday and last night and some crazy wind today, but missed the worst of it. i talked to Stacey earlier and they were having basement issues. she asked me where Noah was?
I saw some pics on CNN. Looks pretty wet there. It's been sunny and 75 here...
BTW: I am on a mission to educate the voters in this country. (Mainly because I am terrified of the possible outcome). Rather than try to debate the issues, I am sending out resources that I hope will help people make an informed decision.
Here is a non-partisan site where you can check the facts against what the politicians are saying. I hope you all take the time.
Awesome movie Brendhan, I love Tenacious D.
I'm also a huge Jack Black fan. I keep meaning to hit the theatre and see Tropic Thunder. I haven't read any reviews but the cast and the trailer alone has me sold.
I saw Tropic Thunder last weekend and it is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen in my whole life! Robert Downey Jr. deserves an academy award...I'm not joking. Definitely a must see for anyone that likes the over-the-top comedy genre. And I think Tom Cruise is a tool, but that boy can act and he nearly stole the show with his small part in this movie...
