Hello all! Hope everyone is well!

Keith & Brendhan - I just saw Tropic Thunder this past weekend and I too love Jack Black! Also, I have always been a fan of Robert Downey Jr. It was hilarious!!
I totally agree you Brendhan, Downey was fantastic and I have never liked Tom Cruise either! But without giving anything away the fact that he can finally do something where he can actually laugh at himself totally got me! You gotta see this movie.

P.S. If you go to see this movie you gotta make sure you are in the theatre early for the previews!!

I hate what our political system has become.

There was a time when political debate was based on beliefs. Now it is based on what you can claim the other side believes.

It's spiralled downward year after year after year.

It is become nothing but an exercise of straw men and red herrings (My logic 101 Professor should be proud).

Karen, no offense, but those type of blogs are one of the reasons. We shouldnt be AGAINST anything. We should be able to be FOR something, and have the ability to debate why those views are better without tearing down the other side.

DailyKos, FreeRepublic, DemocraticUnderground, WorldNetDaily,MoveOn, SwiftBoaters for Truth, Huffington, Hannity, Olberman, Rush, Maddow, all of them fuel the fire.

The founding fathers took pride in debate. It was the cornerstone of our countries foundation. And while they VEHEMENTLY disagreed with each other on issues (we should all read the Federalist Papers again), they never made it personal. And they never tried to win a debate by smearing and distorting the opposing views.

I love political debate. But it's impossible to have true debate anymore. It's become nothing but a game of gotcha. And we all pay the price in the end.

There are no statesman anymore.

Almost totally agree, Brady.

I think that with a resurgent media, we could get back in place. If we could import the British media to watchdog our current politicians, we'd have a chance.

Well said, Brady. I get so upset with the smear campaigns that I want to vote for the person who is the least vicious in their attacks, because I can no longer tell where anyone actually stands on the issues. And when people start voting for reasons like that, you're right, we all lose.

For example,I wish one of them would actually tell me what they are going to do with the health care system and how it is going to work, instead of telling me what the other one isn't going to do.

I think it might be too late for that Walt.

Both sides have succeeded in demonizing the media for their own gain. And the worst part is that the media lets them. Sure MSNBC denies they have bias, but then they go and pull Matthews and Olberman from the desk. The way to respond to that is to ADMIT the bias and bring more people in to balance it. See, the problem wasnt that Matthews and Olberman are leftwingers, we all know that. The problem is that they put both of them on at the same time and then acted shocked when people pointed it out. They set themnselves up. FOx is just as guilty if not moreso.

So now that the media has had its collective fairness compromised, anything and everything can be questioned. So when a story about Sarah Palin surfaces about her securing hundreds of millions in earmarks, it can easily be dismissed. And when stories about Obamas business deals with Rezko come up, they are dismissed.

What we are left with is 99 percent of the media in this country owned by 7 (THAT"S SEVEN!!!) corporations all in it for profit, the truth be damned. So the response is exactly what just happened at MSNBC. Instead of balancing, they tilt farther to the left because that will get them more ratings.

The same thing happens in newspapers. The Wall Street Journal gets accused of being too right wing in its editorial page, so they respond by becomeng more right wing in their OVERALL content.

Over the past 16 years congressional turnover has been less than the historical average of the Soviet Politboro. Think about that. It's next to impossible to change Washington. And as long as Dem and GOPers can frame the debate as left vs right, they both win. What the debate NEEDS to become is the people vs the politicians.

Well, there it is. proof that religion and/or politics are sure to kill a message board!

Don't forget facebook . . . but do we have a messageboard there? Here's where I watched the Skins game this weekend: Little biker bar I stopped at on my way back up from Boston after visiting my brother. Good times.

And you all were so worried about this website going away...

By the way, no need to worry. The Planning Committee has asked me to cover the expense of the website for the next five years. And that's what I've done. So you're good until your 25th. :)

keith, i'm w/ u, but who's going to be VP?

walt, which brother lives up there? do u think the skins can beat the Pats now?

wendy, that's good news. many thanks to you and the committee.

09/17/08 09:49 AM #1121

Walter Yarbrough

Yup!

Thanks Wendy and the committee.

Chris, I went down to DC area - Wynn just moved into Mt. Airy, Md. and I was down there visiting this weekend.

Went back up 81 to get home.

As for the Skins and Pats - the nature of the NFL is that any given sunday any team can beat any other team.

But, the Skins are an 8-8 team this year and the Pats a 12-4 team, give or take. So, the odds aren't good :)

Yeah, I definitely have fall 1985, spring 1987 and spring 1988. All of the videos during that period are not the greatest picture quality wise (you might have seen the spring 1988 one if you were at the reunion), and some of them are on a video format that would cost me a chunk to get converted over to something I can use, so I have not converted many of them. At any rate, I do have the ones above. Let me know. Bob

Hey Walter,
I have transferred several shows over to dvd and can transfer others by request. If there are shows that you are interested in getting, probably the best thing to do is send a check ($15 each / add $2 total for shipping) with an indication of which shows you want (Spring 1998, Fall 1997, etc). If I don't have them currently transferred I can do it within a few days. Let me know if you have any questions. Bob

Wendy, thanks for getting the site extended and to the committee for authorizing it!

So what does everyone think about the govt. bailing out all the fat cats on Wall St?

Ha, I'm just kidding, let's talk about something important...who was the hottest chick at the reunion?

My vote goes to Chris Wallace....he always wears it well.

Note: That site is Not intended to be Safe for Work

And note to the women out there. Tucker is a pig. I don't identify with him or find him hilarious. At all. Really.

Yeah, that's it.

Thanks Walt, for spelling it out for those of us who are still not computer language savvy!

Anybody got exciting weekend plans? I think mine is going to be spent doing yard work.
