Welcome to the Bucket List Forum.  Come on in and share with others the things that you would recommend we all experience before we kick the bucket.  Or maybe you have something you would recommend we avoid at all costs, like sticking your finger in a form burster!  More on that later.  I think you get the idea.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me and "we thank you for your support".

Visit the Holy Lands.  Specifically, Jerusalem; the Garden tomb, Golgotha and walk the Via Dolorosa.  (Uncle Sam paid for my trip.)

Several years ago our daughter gave us a weekend at a bed and breakfast not far from Blue Ridge, GA as an anniversary present.  As we arrived at the B&B we could see a lady sitting by herself on the side porch crying.   We really didn't know what to do but not knowing her we decided not to approach her.  We checked in and had a wonderful evening and as as we were sitting in the living area the lady from the porch came in and sat down.  Her eyes were still red and swollen.  After a while we were able to engage her in conversation and learned why she was crying.  Her daughter and fiancee had planned to hike the Appalachian Trail for their Honeymoon.  They had the whole trip mapped out and all of the provisions were ready to be shipped to the way points along the trail.  On his way to their wedding, the fiancee was struck by a train and killed.  The daughter wanted to keep their dream alive and so a year later she had begun their trek up the trail.  When we saw her that afternoon, she had just returned from dropping off her husband and daughter on the trail.  Her husband was going to walk the first few days with their daughter.  She was staying at the B&B until time to pick him up for their return home in Pennsylvania.  How wonderfully sad that journey must have been.

Gary, I would also like to highly recommend a trip to the Holy Land.  Liz and I were blessed to be a part of a Pilgrimage and Study Tour of Israel in 2000.  I would put it right at the top of the list of things I have been a part of… an educational and spiritual journey beyond words.  We had the best guide in Israel and took a 10-day trip around the whole country… ranging from a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, to a visit to the Mount of Olives and the Garden Tomb in Jerusalem.  We went to Nazareth and Bethlehem and took a day-trip to Jericho, Masada and the Dead Sea.  We were busy every day from sunrise to sunset… and beyond.  But one of the highlights for me was being baptized in the Jordan River (see attached photo).  I know that tensions are always high in the Holy Land, but if you ever have the opportunity to go, don’t let it pass you by.  You will be blessed!

To add a little story to my Holy Land trip and Baptism in the Jordan River… as Paul Harvey would say… here is the “rest of the story.”  The amazing thing about life is that you never know what to expect, even during a sacred, reverent occasion.  After I had been baptized in the Jordan, Pastor Mark asked me to stand in the river to his right and help the others, over 40 people, out of the water as they were baptized one by one (see photo).  The bottom of the river was somewhat rocky and uneven and it was not so easy to keep one’s balance.  As I stood there in my white gown and bare feet, I suddenly felt something brush against my feet… again and again… and terror filled my soul.  The water was not clear enough for me to see what it was.  Considering the occasion, I couldn’t move, so I just had to stand there and pray for the best as I continued to give each person a hand out of the water.  Then, whatever was in the water began to tickle my toes.  I was determined to stand there as long as it didn’t get any worse.  I just wiggled my toes and hoped for the best.  But it continued, and intensified, and what ever it was (little fishies I guess?) just nibbled and nibbled my toes the entire time.  I’m thankful they didn’t have teeth.  I managed to get through it all without disrupting things, and I am just thankful that it wasn’t piranha.  So, even though I would very much recommend being baptized in the Jordan River, I would pray that you don’t have sea creatures sucking on your toes at the same time.

PS  My little episode in the Jordan River gives a whole new meaning to the term "fishers of men."

Change a tire for a stranger and refuse payment.  Yeah, there's a story behind it, but you had to be there.

Gary... the tattoo thing... honestly, that would scare me more than jumping out of a plane.  Maybe I've been watching too much NBA basketball lately.
