Comments:

After high school I attended Young Harris College for a year, where my roommate was Teresa Burt. I was so love sick for a certain guy who I left back in Athens that I transferred to UGA and finished there in '72 with a degree in education. Dick Moore and I married our senior year of college, and upon graduation he was commissioned in the USAF. This is where our profiles will overlap, so I will let him tell you about all the ensuing moves. I'll just stick with my personal info and the family things.

During our moving around years I always worked, usually substitute teaching. It was something I could easily do no matter where we were. For the three years that we lived in Athens, from '84-'87, I did decorative painting for a friend who had her own business, as well as worked in the microfilm dept. at UGA. Here in Ohio, I taught school full time two years, tutored a boy with Tourette's Syndrome, and did several years volunteer work with the Red Cross. I did everything backwards, working while my sons were home, and quitting when they went off to college. Now I spend my time doing lots of work with our church, the Xenia Church of Christ. When I can, I love working in my flower beds or reading. I also have about a dozen unfinished projects that I keep hoping little elves will sneak in and complete some night while I sleep.

Our son Chuck is currently deployed with the AF reserves in Baghdad where he is working at the US Embassy in the Green Zone. We pray for him and the other men and women over there every day. He has not yet seen his newest son. He should be returning about the time of our reunion, and resume his career as a financial planner with Northwestern Mutual. I'll be going out to CO lots in the coming months to help Annie with the new baby, and spoil Will and Claire of course. Yay!

Greg, our youngest, lives in Chicago and is a regional manager for ADP Total Source, which sells HR services to companies. He is married to a delight named Christy. Christy underwent a stem cell transplant over Christmas in hopes of curing advanced leukemia, which was discovered two months before their wedding. She is currently doing well, and we are thankful and prayerful every
single day.

Both my dear parents are gone now, and my heart is still tender at the thought of them. I thank the maker of the stars each day for my husband. Though he dragged me all over the place, it has been an adventure because of him. Our common memories of Oglethorpe County have provided us with lots of reminiscing through the years. We know God will lead us back there one day, if He doesn't lead us to CO or Chicago instead. We wouldn't have wanted to "be from" any place else in the world. Until then, we visit our doll babies as often as possible, and are visited in return.

Well, it seems I don't know when to shut up--sorry. It's just been too long. I honestly can't wait to see you in September! Every one of you!

School Story:

I was a lucky girl. If I have any bad memories of school I don't recall them. I started school with Mrs. Mindale Roland as my sweet teacher, and was classmates with many who I went on to graduate with 12 years later. I benefited from hugs that my teachers freely gave, that are discouraged these days. I had the same bus driver all 12 years, Mr. David Glenn, who lived just down the road from me. I remember playing jacks on the rock tables down in the pines, being a bus patrol in 7th grade with Linda Wheless as my partner, UDC assemblies for Confederate Memorial Day, and Mrs. Shackleford giving acheivement tests in the lunchroom. I remember the smell of green onions being mowed outside our open windows in the spring. I remember seeing Miss Veal and Mr. Pryor fall in love before our eyes in 8th grade, and later on, having Miss Huffman become Mrs. Frosch. I remember the late, great Mr. Frosch. So many wonderful teachers, that I dare not try to name them all. I remember vividly when new people came to our school. It didn't happen all that often. Yes, I remember when Connie and Nancy came. Also when the guy with the funny last name of Helmreich came. And Gary Grice. I thought all 4 were cute then, and I still do! I remember riding the basketball bus back late at night from games, and singing Christmas songs in harmony with Teresa Burt. I did get that silly John Romaine pocketbook every year, but other than that, Mama made most all my clothes. I knew I wasn't rich, but I always felt like I "fit in". This definitely would not have been the case had I gone to Athens High or some other big school. I owe so much to the teachers, my friends, and my friend's parents. They provided me with wonderful examples to follow, and helped me have a happy school experience in so many ways. I'm sure somewhere along the way, I was not always as kind as I should have been, and if I ever caused anyone to feel hurt in anyway, I am so sorry.I would never knowingly do so now. I will always be thankful for my memories. AS I grow older, they grow more precious.

Partying with Will on Grandma's patio. Coffee is my drug of choice. I am either having a cup, making a cup, or fantasizing about a cup. Sweet tea still hits the spot though, too!

I loved this scene of the buggy on the way to it's home, and the purple martin houses that graced the yard. Everyone had martin houses, and we never saw a single mosquito while we were there.

It was the weekend of the Annual Amish auction, and the quilts are up for auction here. Beautiful! Amish do not carry insurance, and this is a way they raise funds to care for one another.
