You might think this is a strange item on this forum, but what would be more appropriate for a “Bucket” List.  It’s something that I took for granted since I grew up on a dairy farm and milked more than my share of cows.  And, since Oglethorpe County is a largely agricultural community, I imagine that many of you out there have had the experience too.  Now Liz is a city girl and has never milked a cow, but has expressed her willingness to do so if ever given the opportunity.  I love cows!  They bring back fond memories of growing up in a much simpler time.  But, make no mistake… I can eat a steak and enjoy every bite!  Most cows are pretty quiet when they are milked, especially if you feed them at the same time.  But I do remember a few that were pretty feisty and would swat you with their tail, or even kick the “udder” daylights out of you.  Which would sometimes bring visions of that cow “kicking the bucket.”  Of course, we seldom used buckets but had electronic milking machines.  But if you've never milked a cow, try it sometimes if you have the opportunity.  It will give you a new appreciation of how God provides our daily bread.

Don, Dick has made me his secretary, and he says to tell you that that is a fine  item for the bucket list--as long as it's "cow", singular. He shares your memories of milking days, and the memories are good ones, though he has shared some dillies with me that he would not want to go through again. I can check that one off too, though it was when I was a little bitty girl and was more playing than really milking. I'm gonna count it though! (I don't like being his secretary by the way. It wasn't on my list.)

The people of Kansas think that milking a cow is significant enough to create a replica for everyone to try.

Of course they had to have a real one on site as well.

This was at a park in Overland, Kansas
