After graduating in 1968, I spent four years at UGA, graduating in 1972 with a B.S. in Psychology. As you may remember the first year of the draft lottery was 1970--I drew a bad number and was told that I would likely be drafted. OR I could sign up for ROTC and they would give me a scholarship for the last two years of college. (and give me a "job" at graduation!) Given the alternatives I said yes to the Air Force's offer. This single decision shaped the next several decades more than I would ever know.
Diane and I got married our Senior year at UGA. This was no doubt one of the smartest things I ever did. We have had many years of adventures together. She was (and is) the best mother I could have hoped for for our children. She remains one of the sweetest and sincere (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) people you'll ever meet. Her cheerful spirit and support were sometimes the only thing that kept me going.
A year after we got married we moved to Tucson, AZ for 5 years. (72-77) Now in the AF, I spent this first five years on a Titan II Missile Combat Crew. Both our boys were born in Tucson and we have fond memories of all the times we spent there.
In 1977, the AF sent me to the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT)for a Master's Degree in Logistics Management. After graduating in 1978, I owed the AF another 3 years.
We moved to Warrensburg, MO--still in missiles--but this time as a maintanence officer. About the time my obligation to the AF was to expire, we were offered a chance to move to Vandenburg AFB on the central coast of California. It seemed like a great opportunity so we said yes. After 2.5 years there, the opportunity opened up to go back to the school of my choice for graduate work and then be on the graduate faculty at AFIT. This gave us the opportunity to move back to Athens from 1984-87. In August 1987, we moved to Beavercreek, Ohio where I taught for five years. I retired from the AF in December 1992.
In the 16 years since retiring, worked with four different consulting groups. I've been a Senior Consultant with a company called ProChain Solutions, Inc. since 1999. We specialize in something called Critical Chain Project Management. I've had the good fortune to have worked with some great companies: Intel, HP, Procter & Gamble, Eli Lilly & Company, Glaxo-Smith-Kline, Abbott Labs and Boeing.
While I hope to retire sometime, I actually enjoy what I do (on most days).
Dick's Latest Interactions
I remember Band trips with Danny, and driving home after football practice.
There was the time when we went to Greensboro to see the Indian's play basketball. We took Danny's family brand new (green?) pickup. Dan disconnected the odometer to avoid the appearance of adding too many miles. This also disconnected the speedometer--we made it to Greensboro in record time. Fond memories...
