After graduation, I went to nursing school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. I graduated in 1972 with a BS degree in Nursing.
I married Jim White of Stone Mountain (he grew up in Macon) in 1972. After graduating from Seminary @ Southeastern Baptist Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C. in 1974, Jim began working as the Southeast district director of the State YMCA of GA. (Remember the "Y" clubs we had in high school???) - so we lived in Vidalia, Georgia. Jim died in an auto accident in 1982. Our sons were 4 and 6 years old at the time. I stayed in Vidalia until 1986, and at that time I moved back to Crawford, Georgia in a house located in what we knew as Lakeshore Park, where our football field was while we were in high school.
The boys and I were blessed to be just a mile from my parents, and enjoyed having time with them until their deaths in 1997 (they died 6 months apart). I continue to miss them so much...
I have remarried, but divorced.
I have always worked as a Registered Nurse. Most of the 1st. 25 years was in Emergency room. Since 1997 I've moved more into the "cardiac" area, working in the cardiac cath. lab, and now in a cardiology/arrhythmia center. I've been at St. Marys hospital in Athens since 1986. (Prior to that I worked in North Carolina and in Vidalia, Ga.)
I am enjoying the blessing and joys of my precious grandchildren!
As with all of us, there have been ups and downs in life. I thank God for His constant presence, love and provision, and for my family and friends.
I lived in Oglethorpe County from birth til I was 5, then I lived in Marietta and went to 1st. - 6th. grade there. We moved back to Crawford, and I began at Oglethorpe in the 7th. grade. My memories include nice people, dear, dear friends, my first love, good & caring teachers, bus drivers and school staff. I remember club meetings and activities, playing basketball, sock-hops and dances after ballgames, proms, the old gym in Lexington where we had P.E. as well as our basketball games (remember looking around those wooden columns), pep-rallys, the truck-stop, the football field in Crawford, spend-the night parties, the precious parents of friends that loved and guided all of us...and on and on... I loved the school being small enough that we knew everyone. I never had a car---never had one of those John Romaine pocketbooks---certainly never had much money, but I was blessed with wonderful parents and I had opportunities at OCHS that I would have NEVER had at a larger school --- friends that I love to this day --- and so many people that CARE. I am so excited that I will get to be together with so many of you soon! Thanks dear ones and OCHS for all you've been in my life.
