I'd vote for Tommy! He is a SUPER HOOT!! He once bought a duck head toilet plunger at a DU banquet. I think it would be an interesting accessory to a White House bath.

Question about Haloween festivities... do we dress up? Do we dress up as 80's people? My parents have moved twice, but there is still some shoulder-padded stuff in the closets. And with enough mousse, I think my hair can still get pretty big. Size matters.

I spoke with Rose Jackson Lemarie in Louisiana on the phone. Rose sounded VERY positive and was preparing her home with Steve for the Gustav tropical storm. Rose and Steve are very grateful for all the emails, prayers and thoughts sent to them! The storm is going to hit Louisiana some time tomorrow (Monday, Sept. 1) and most people are evacuating at this time. Yet, Rose and Steve are going to ride this storm out at home. Rose and Steve will rebuild, if they have to as they have done in the past. After the storm has passed, Rose will put a message on the forum to let everyone know, how the situation looks for them.
God bless them,
!Always, GinaJeans!

Liz said: I'll be stealing a small one - perhaps one of Gina's. She and Brad would not notice one missing for several days.

Depends on which one you take. ;)

Regarding my post on the political conventions.... hope no one took things the wrong way, and I didn't mean to strike any nerves! Was curious moreso about the interest level and was not really seeking any sensitive information or pointed responses. The post was all in fun! I simply enjoyed listening to the speeches and exchanging thoughts.

At any rate, my apologies if I offended anyone! The most important message I could possibly offer would be to get out and vote!! This is our Country and we should all participate in this way!

""""The most important message I could possibly offer would be to get out and vote!! This is our Country and we should all participate in this way!""""

Amy, I will stand behind you, walk beside you and even fight the way in front of you to get this message out to people....Tooo many times during the day I hear people complaining about the state of our political system....My first question...WHO DID YOU VOTE FOR???

90% of the ones who complain....
Did not vote or HAVE NEVER VOTED!!!!!

I simply tell them to SHUT THE HELL UP !!!
If you dont make an effort then ya got no right to complain.....

My point...My Opinion...MINE ONLY...

focus more on your congresspersons and senators, they can actully do something for us!!

09/03/08 09:21 AM #539

Elizabeth Reves

John and Amy, the best thing about our country is that we are not only allowed to vote, but also allowed to criticize our officials (I agree, John, if you don't vote don't gripe). Now the best thing about having intelligent thinking friends is that you can discuss these things with out it escalating into a civil war. I don't think anyone got their knickers in a flip about our conversation (if they did, I too apologise). No one resorted to name calling or yelling. I think we are cool.
To get really riled up, you have to take a hard line on issues or candidates. I am finding it difficult to take a hard line on anything, as it often has started to remind me of a South Park episode...
These days all I want is to get the bathroom finished and find a JOB with insurance! Selfish? You bet!

And Keith ! Congresspersons... oh how very non-sexist of you. Kudos to you, my friend!

so...it looks like you guys got more from Gustav than we did here in Tampa! Well, with the train of storms headed this way that may change!

09/03/08 10:06 AM #541

Elizabeth Reves

Yes, it has rained here since .... Monday night late (I think). It's is also quite windy. Duck hunters should have plenty of water this year for the ducks to hang out on (if they show). It would be a perfect time to paint the bathroom trim except it would never dry.
I am sure you are watching the weather closely, but please be careful. The map on noaa.com shows Hanna, Ike, and Josephine are all headed your direction (which makes it sound like you are going to have a party or something). Don't float or blow away!

Liz, thanks for the kudos, this isn't my father's or grandfather's world anymore. And the sooner everyone comes to understand that the better. I just hope people don't make choices based on race or gender, that would be just as bad as the sexist world we are trying to evolve out of.

hey, Sony, I don't see you registered for the race....

Amy -

I was glad to see your inquiry regarding the events at the DNC and was looking forward to reading the responses. After all, if you watched it you were literally witnessing history being made.

I was surprised, and disappointed, that there weren't more responses posted, but perhaps many folks were like me and still soaking it all in. At least I was until Friday when Palin entered the picture.

Now that she's arrived, I'm encouraging people to buy stock in Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn company as it's truly going to be an entertaining "60ish" days.

In an attempt to get some conversation going and never one to stray from voicing my opinion - let me lob this out regarding Palin. . . as a mom, what is she thinking?

You ask why? In a recent interview by CNN.Time, when asked how she manages to juggle the governorship with five kids she responded (very much like the Duggers) that the older kids help out with the younger kids and she has an expansive, extended family that also helps. As a single mom, I myself know what it's like to rely on "The Village" to help raise a child, but . . . she has a special needs child for crying out loud!

Supposedly Palin's religious beliefs drove her decision to have the little baby even though she knew that it has Down's Syndrome. However, I can't help but wonder if her decision was also driven in part by the fact that she knew she could continue to focus on her "career" because she has the older kids and extended family to tend to the little one. For Palin to throw her name in the ring for VP of the US tells me that her real priorities are not on her family (especially the little one), but herself.

Maybe I can't see the forest for the trees here, but that little baby needs its momma!

Karen S. Wise (Owenson)

Kim- I know you have such a big heart and love your kids and couldnt imagine not staying home with a special needs child, but it can be done.
I work with children with spina bifida, cerebal palsy and downs syndrome. And wether you work or not, you have to envolve your family and friends for it not to be overwhelming. But I do see several working parents and some that don't work outside the home with their children during hospitalizations. The main thing is how the parents are when they are with their child. Because when you see some at home moms with their children and they have no outside(familiy/friends). They are sooo tired and worn out and short on temper with their kids. And for the mom who has outside activities, work,or a village; it gives them a small break so when they are home they enjoy the times with their kids even when it is busy and demanding. I know some moms just don't have a financial choice. A special needs child requires alot. It is not a easy decision , I am sure wether to stay at home or work pulls at their heart strings.
I don't know who will win in this race but hopefully it bring out discussions to help with all those special needs childrens and some of the lack of services there are in some states compared to others. You wouldn't believe it but Arkansas has it better than some other states as far as services for the special needs children. ( still not enough but bettter than some).

I'm tired of the rain!!!! Someone called and asked if they built an ark would we cover it on insurance. I said sure!!!!!

09/03/08 04:42 PM #548

Gina Martin (Eggebrecht)

Kim, that was my first thought when all the info came out about her family. That baby NEEDS her. Any 4 month old would NEED her - not just a special needs baby. And because I'm not saying that about Obama, many of my fellow Republicans say I have a double-standard. Um, well, guilty as charged. Babies need their mothers in a different way than they need their fathers. Will it keep me from voting Republican? Heck, I might just write in Garfield for President - I don't know. I haven't made up my mind yet. I'm interested in hearing her speech tonight.

And, BFD that her 17 y/o is pregnant. Teenagers often do what they want to do, make mistakes and have to live with the consequences. The fact that Bristol Palin is pregnant is proof that her parents aren't "helicopter parents" who hovered over her 24/7. I know *many* good parents whose kids got pregnant as teenagers or in their early 20s.

All I know is my mom said on Monday, "I'm more excited about voting than I *ever* have been before." So, she definitely has some women fired up -- some for her and some against her.

Regardless of which party is elected in November, I think *we* as a nation win. We will either have the first African American president or we will have a woman serving as VP or enough people will have written in a cartoon cat that we have Garfield...

Oh, Lisa, I am with you on the rain. I just drove all over town to deliver 1 job application, and got drenched even with the umbrella (an unbrella is not much use when the rain comes sideways). Tomorrow we should be in better shape (if the forecast I heard is correct).

To all - I saw our very own Elvis this afternoon, and he is leaving tomorrow morning for his next competition. He says he will either post when he returns or call someone on the way home to let us know the outcome. I hope he calls someone with news too exciting to wait!
GOOD LUCK TONY!!!

By-the-way, for any of you in Little Rock who checks this from work, the power is STILL out along Rodney Parham all the way to Stagecoach and Markham. Avoid, avoid, avoid. It's a mess. Apparently, not everyone knows how a 4 way stop should work... Morons.

Kim - I loved your post, and Gina, yours, too, and Karen, yours, too!!! See? We are all managing to discuss politics without losing friendships! Great idea about buying the popcorn cuz this is going to be a very interesting race for the Presidency, and whichever way it goes, we truly are watching history in the making!

I can't wait to get home and turn on the television! I do have to say at first blush I am disappointed with the selection of Palin. I am amazed at the level of energy it takes to participate in one of these races. They have no personal time at all. And if she actually won the Vice Presidency can you imagine the amount of stress that would be put on her family then?
