Hey Scotty,
The McCallan single malt was provided courtesy of Joan Whitcomb.

Thanks Joan!

Just posted some new pics from Apollo Grill...don't have many of the actual reunion...I guess I was too preoccupied???

Joan....Joan....I love that scotch! I will need to get a bottle next year for when my son gets married on Martha's Vineyard (Don't worry I don't know anyone who lives there. I've never even been there). I head to the "homeland" in two years. I don't know if I'll make it to England (Long swim), but if I do, I will harass you! Steve. What can I say? Thanks and lets stay in touch (Maybe even get together once in awhile????)

Rich the house meal sounds good, but I can't cook toast. If I didn't marry someone who cooked, I would poison myself on my own cooking. When I cooked for my daughter when it was just she and I, she threatened to call Human Services on me. I'm scared.....I can't...Take out for me

Scott if we do a dinner you can bring the alcohol, I don't think you can mess that up!! LOL

Also a big thank you to Tony and Shirley Sapienza for a wonderful post reunion party at their house last Sat. night/Sun. morning. Did you end up walking home like you said you were, Scott?

I am all set for a ride home from Boston tomorrow evening. I can't wait to be home and sleep in my own bed and see my 16 y.o. and sister even if it is only for a couple of days! At least it's looking good for us to be back home at this time next week. Keep your fingers crossed all goes well on Mon. with her swallow evaluation and she can start eating by mouth again!

Until we meet again!

I have a very serious question for the forum. I want each of you to think about this before you respond...

Boxed wine? I KNOW! Boxed wine for crying out loud. A friend of mine insists that The Black Box (or something like that) has a nice enough Cab for under $50 (for the equivalent of 4 bottles of wine.)

I don’t want to waste $50 without independent verification. If she is correct, this will be the bargain for which I’ve been waiting.

Your thoughts below:

Melissa, the black box wasn't bad. You only live once....gotta try boxed wine before ya go...

Kathy, I can admit this now (because I'm all mature and so very confident) I've had PLENTY of boxed wine. When I was young, I couldn't afford to keep anything "good" around.

I'd promised myself, when I made something of my life, I'd never drink junk wine again. However, if I wait until I make something of myself, I'll go to my grave dry.

Is the Black Box good? Or good enough?
Please keep in mind; I do not have a developed palate. (Thank Dog!) But when I drink (even a glass of) junk wine, the hangover nearly kills a girl.

Don't be shy, help as sister out! I believe these are the kinds of important insights only old friends can provide.

I liked it just fine...but I am not an expert by any means...I'd buy it again and I love the dark reds..the darker the better!

Joni...are you home yet?

Oh yes, I have one more thing to say...one of the best things, the most special thing about last Saturday was, looking around, EVERYONE was smiling...from the heart...it was beautiful...amazing, even...all that joy in one place....we should have canned it! Or for you Melissa, boxed it!

Susan Swierz (Hebert)

Melissa-kind of ironic a California girl asking for wine advice from NE, I would have thought you made it from your own backyard vineyard! HA! Wine in a Box...I made a vow to never sip from the box again. I've been kicked by that nasty horse many times no more. I have not tried the "black" box, but my "gut"(pun intended) says to back off! Too good to be true- maybe baby.

Whata weekend! The best ever to feel young until the sore muscles (from dancing) set in and I was feeling like an old lady Sun and Mon, not to mention the late hours, but oh Sooooo worth it.
79 Rocks!

Melissa, I am with Sue not Kathy on this one! I have developed a somewhat more mature palate for wine and boxed wine is not something I would go out of my way to buy or try! I have also found the screw top wines that are supposed to be as good as the corked ones...not true based on my experience! Corked, bottled wine is the way to go for me!! Just my opinion though, as the saying goes "if in doubt check it out and try it you might like it!" Let us know!!! What do you think, Kevin?

Sue, I’m a complete peasant. When we go to Napa, I don’t even swish and I never spit. Ha!

Okay, I am about to do my own taste test. Glenn recommended that I buy the box for a party and if it’s a hit?…fabulous. If not…Who expects great wine at a party anyway? But I can’t wait. I have just cracked open my first box and I am aerating it as we speak. I bought one of those little aerators and it is the best $40 I’ve spent in a long time.

Richard, you’re our class expert. Do you like the aerators or are you old school and insist on decanting?

Okay…here goes (I’ll give you a play by play) Up to the nose…not bad. A tiny slurp (embarrassing?...sure, but that’s how I roll) small bit of cheese (to get my tongue ready)…she shoots…SHE SCORES!!!!!!!

Buy yourself the Black Box Cabernet Sauvignon. For the price…delicious!

Thanks for the play by play Melissa, but after Susan's comment about you having a backyard vineyard I am totally stuck on the image of you knee high stomping grapes with your billowing skirt hiked up around your knees AKA Lucy Riccardo style!!!! "LUCY! you got some splainin to do!!!"

Now earlier in the week there were many discussions around follow up activities for the class of 79, so I will throw this out there to get the creative juices going...Be thinking about a Memorial Day 2010 weekend trip to Indianapolis for the INDY 500 race, and partying midwest style...if there are takers (and I have already heard some definite interest) I will start planning early in the year, blocking rooms, searching for tickets etc..things book up early here as INDY 500 is a monthlong tradition here. And a great time!

Gentlemen(and ladies)....Start your engines!

Melissa...as you have said in the past it's not just about the taste. Let us know if you have a wine headache in the am

Richard Fisk

When I taste or drink wine I follow the rules I learned in France and Switzerland. There are two types of wine. The ones you love to drink and the ones you hate to drink. Melissa to answer your question I decant mine. I also CHEW my wine when I first taste it. I also look at the legs, the clarity, and smell the bouquet.

Pam, thanks for the concern, but at 4:15, the cab sounded better......Good times

Bill - You win the prize for worst MMHS 20th reunion story. Gosh, so glad to hear you are OK. We'll all make sure your next reunion is GREAT!

Richard - Leave it to you to think of such a creative dinner idea. France . . . Switzerland . . . when we get together I want stories!

Another reunion idea (I'm an artist on a budget!) What about a CROSS COUNTRY reunion? With 126 classmates in Manchester, several people could have an open house, I could host western NH & VT, we have 12 classmates in MA who could meet at 1-2 places, 7 classmates in FL who could meet at 1-2 places, etc. Then we post photos to the website. I bet quite a few people didn't attend because travel is so expensive.

Joni - You could check flight costs to all cities hosting a CROSS COUNTRY reunion party and go wherever is cheapest!

Rob--Count me in

Hey Pam.

If i but wine with a screw top, I serve it second. I have been pleasantly surprised at how nice some of the screw top wine tastes though. It's different now. Even some of the corks are not really cork anymore

I can host anybody from anywhere

Superbowl is supposed to be in Arlington 2011. The stadium is 15 minutes from my house. I'd be willing to host folks, too. I do, however, have a house full of animals - so if you're allergic, bring your pills. Also, if anyone wants to fly south to see the Red Sox v Rangers, that stadium is right across from Cowboys Arlington - and the games are relatively cheap. Again, you've got a place.
