Evelyn Gratton (Pepin)
Carol - I've been told that my committee meeting Friday night should be done by 8 (Ha! Yeah, we'll see... ), so when I'm done there, I'll text you to see if you're still there and probably swing by. I don't always get a Friday night out, so this will be a treat!
~~~~~~~ Ron and I took our 6yr old, Isaac, to see 'Star Wars in Concert' at the Verizon tonight. What an awesome show! The live orchestra was amazing! It's been a while since I've attended a live orchestral concert and forgot how emotional I get when I hear it. I've participated IN concerts, which is cool, too, but I'm too busy concentrating on my part in it. Hearing the music in its totality is always thrilling for me. This show was so great, we are seriously considering buying last minute tickets and following the show to their next performance in Boston on Saturday.
We've had tickets since September and kept it a surprise for Isaac, who can discuss in minute detail nearly every aspect of the whole Star Wars saga with anyone who will let him. He has a whole arsenal of light sabers in varying forms and colors and several costumes. I snuck his Jedi costume & robe and a light saber into the back of my car this afternoon, and we left the house this evening as though we were going to choir rehearsal like we normally do on Thursdays. But instead of continuing on Queen City Ave to the west side (Ste Marie Church), I turned right onto Elm, which wasn't lost on Isaac! Knowing we were about to pass the arena, he says, "Hey, is today the 12th? I think Star Wars is at the Verizon! Maybe someday we'll get to see it..." At that point, Ron and I couldn't contain ourselves anymore and gave it up: Mum: "Hey, they won't miss us at choir. Let's go to the concert instead. Wanna?" Isaac: "Really?!?!" Dad: "We may as well... it'd be a shame to let these tickets we've had for two months go to waste..." This exchange was followed by squeals of delight issuing from the back seat! Then, when he spotted families with kids in costume crossing the street to the arena, he lamented, "Oh, I wish I had my Jedi robes." Heh-heh-heh.. Patience, young Padawan..., thinks Mum. We parked the car and revealed the costume to one excited little Jedi!
Isaac often figures out or guesses surprises before we can pull them off. Ron and I can have a whispered discussion three rooms away, yet Isaac can hear us with his bionic hearing! We've never been able to spell or 'speak in code' in front of him, either, 'cause he's known how to spell since birth (I'm not kidding!) and always seems to know what we're refering to, so we are thrilled to have managed this surprise for him!
If you've stayed with me this far, thanks for reading my ramblings. I'll post photos, as soon as I overcome some networking issues (haven't moved my photo files over to my laptop yet), including Halloween. Both Ron and Isaac were Darth Maul this year! Yes, we are a family of Star Wars geeks and proud of it! :-D
